Melony is a character appearing in the "Sword & Shield Chapter" of Pokémon Adventures.

Appearance

This section, or a part of it, has been transcluded from Melony; any changes involving it should be made there instead. /  Melony is a large, plump woman with fair skin, blue eyes, and lightly painted fingernails. She has voluminous light gray hair that falls to her hips, along with a grayish-blue streak and a single unruly bang. For clothing, she wears thick clothes suitable for cold weather. Her outfit consists of a white turtleneck sweater with the Ice-type and Gym Challenge symbols on it, a puffy white scarf, and a large white wool hat. She also wears blue-gray tights with white patterns and white shorts with a black design, her Gym number, and the Ice-type symbol on them. To complete her outfit, she wears long white boots and a white and black glove on her right hand.

Personality

Melony has a cheerful personality. She wants to give the best to her Pokémon and her children, to let their potentials grow. However, this sometimes causes a disagreement, and Melony hopes to fix these relationships.

Etymology

Like most of the new characters in Sword and Shield, Melony is named after a plant. However, it may also be derived from "melody" (as Gigantamax Lapras has a music theme in its design) or "melancholy" (an emotion commonly associated with winter).

Biography

Gordie had a troublesome relationship with her mother, Melony. Melony noticed a lone Mr. Rime performing in front of a Galarian Mr. Rime and Eiscue, who were its followers. It made Melony think that she could capture Mr. Rime and afford it to have its performance shown to the world. She caught Mr. Rime by surprise and caught it, but this made her break its cane. Mr. Rime became angry towards Melony for that, and she became sad, for she merely wanted to make it happy, which is something she would also like to offer her son, too.

Sword & Shield arc

Bea called Melony on the phone, telling her that Bede's endorsement was revoked by Chairman Rose. Melony, who left Circhester, was in shock, knowing that Chairman Rose could've talked things over with Bede instead. She also wondered if Bea paused her training to face challengers. Bea reminded that it'd be disrespectful for her to battle half-hearted, but Melony reminded her that she could nevertheless get fired. Melony encountered Henry Sword, Schilly, Marvin and Magnolia near Circhester. She requested Henry Sword Sword's services to fix a cane. Others were surprised, realizing Melony was Circhester's Gym Leader, whom Henry Sword Sword Swordhad to battle next. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword accepted, but Melony had trouble believing that to be Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword, due to his disguise. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword and Schilly took their disguises off, since they had no use of them anymore.

Henry Sword took the job, noting that Melony wanted Henry Sword to repair her Mr. Rime's broken cane. He and Marvin also noted that Henry Sword Sword could either battle her or Circhester's other Gym Leader. After Melony received a call from Henry Sword Sword Sword about her son, Gordie, she joined Sonia, Professor Magnolia and Marvin to join Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword and Casey. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword was repairing Mr. Rime's cane, to which Mr. Rime did not want to look at Melony for her past incident. Since Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword could not complete the repairs, Melony believed it was for the best to let Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword keep Mr. Rime and fix its cane, and he could later return that Pokémon to her at the finals of the Gym Challenge. She also noted that, with Gordie being sick, she had to battle Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword in the Circhester match. Melony battled Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword using her Frosmoth. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword's Mr. Rime was still mad at her and aimed its attacks towards her, and later Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword won the battle.

Melony answered to the Gym Leaders' call about Chairman Rose's questionable activities. She met up with Bea, Gordie and Allister at Rose Tower, and were joined by Piers, Hop, Marnie, Henry Sword and Casey. Piers gasped, seeing Gordie and Melony reunited, to which Gordie and Melony became embarrassed. After being joined by Kabu and Milo, the group heard a battle raging from the tower. Inside, they found Bede and Opal confronting Oleana, who refused to move, as Chairman Rose was not present. Oleana, seeing that they would not leave, sent her Pokémon to stop them, and in that moment, the group came in as well, sending their Pokémon to battle. With Chairman Rose unleashing the Darkest Day in Hammerlocke, the Pokémon of Wyndon were Dynamaxed, and this caused people to panic. Melony was annoyed at Oleana, who was stalling them, even if she was correct that Rose was absent. In order to go to Hammerlocke, the group was picked up by Professor Magnolia, who rode away in her motorhome.

Melony was in the motorhome heading to Hammerlocke, which, due to a collapsed bridge, took a bumpy ride on the railway. On the way, she saw a broadcast from Sordward and Shielbert, wondering why did they wait to announce they were ancestors of the heroes from the Galar legend. Having arrived, Melony went outside the motorhome to join Henry Sword, who dashed away. After meeting up with Leon, Sonia, Nessa and Raihan, the group went inside the power plant, where they saw Chairman Rose proclaiming the success of his mission. Melony and others confronted Chairman Rose, who stated that while certain crimes were committed, it was all to protect the Galar region, to accumulate Galar particles. Since the exit was sealed, Melony watched the battle between Shielbert and Sordward against Eternatus, commenting it was a battle they cannot lose, or the Galar region would be ruined.

Oleana, who came out of the elevator, asked for their help, which made Casey angry at her for luring them in and trapping them. Oleana reminded that Rose needed help, for he was trying to save Galar from its devastating future. Others had their doubts about this, to which Oleana admitted that even if Rose's intentions were benevolent, he could still make a wrong decision and suffer, to which Melony noted she was right. Melony noted that even with the right intent, a lot can be lost if others were hurt in the process. The group went to the top of the power plant, where Eternatus defeated Rose. With the fires spreading, the Gym Leaders arrived and stopped the fire, letting Raihan and Leon to come in and rescue Rose. The group, including Melony, joined in the fight to take Eternatus down. However, Eternatus didn't suffer much, and a burst of energy was emitted: a beam was shot into the sky, transforming Eternatus into its "serious mode".

Melony continued to battle Eternatus, but it emitted a powerful beam that defeated her Lapras in one hit. To continue the fight, she sent out Frosmoth, but it also got defeated by Eternatus. Melony became overwhelmed, seeing how strong Eternatus is for the entire group to fight it. Leon suggested that they retreat for the moment, but Melony feared a worse outcome out of that. As two Pokémon arrived—Zacian and Zamazenta—Piers had Nessa use a Revival Herb to restore his Malamar, warping everyone to safety. Thus, Melony continued to watch Zacian and Zamazenta battle Eternatus.

Just as Zacian and Zamazenta collided with Eternatus, a bright light flashed. By the time the rest of the Gym Leaders came to the top, they found everyone, including Melony, unconscious. The group was taken to the hospital in Hammerlocke, where they were recovering. With the cure from Isle of Armor delivered, Melony was cured from the poison, though she couldn't walk yet. However, her hair has grown very long, to which Sonia took a picture of the group and sent it to Casey and Hop, who were working at Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, respectively.
