The Sweet Taste of Battle! (

: Mawhip no Ama~i Battle!?, trans. Alcremie's Sweet Battle!?) is the 34th episode of Pocket Monsters (2019 series), and Pokémon Journeys: The Series of Pokémon Journeys: The Series.
Synopsis
Ash, Goh, and Chloe have been invited to Ballonlea in Galar for a special challenge created by Opal, who it turns out is the town’s Gym Leader. She’s constantly coming up with unique challenges, and now she’s asked our heroes to participate in a cake-decorating competition alongside none other than Leon and Raihan of the Masters Eight! Everyone creates delicious cream-covered cakes with the help of several amazing Alcremie, but in the end, Opal declares Ash’s unusual cake the winner. She challenges him to a battle with her Gigantamax Alcremie, but it gets called off when Pikachu eats up more cream than it can handle![1]
Episode plot
Ash and Goh have return to Cerise laboratory, after the latter failed to find some new Pokémon to catch. Professor Cerise informs Ash and Goh that they have a phone call. Ash and Goh caller is Opal, who they meet before in Galar, as she introduces herself then tells them that she is a Galar Gym Leader. Opal informs of a tournament that she is hosting and is inviting Ash alongside his friends to participate. Ash happily accepts the invitation when he hears that Leon is gonna be there while Goh wants to go in order to catch some Pokémon and Chloe joins the group, much to the surprises of the boys. Meanwhile, in Glimwood Tangle, Leon is hanging out with the wild Pokémon that live there and decides to find his way to the Gym, but finds out that he's lost.
After arriving in Ballonlea, Ash, Goh and Chloe stop at the bakery to try their sweets. Goh realized that Chloe joined him and Ash was because she wanted to go to the bakery, which she tells the boys yes then tells them that she wanted to come there as she wished she did so the last time they were there. Chloe tells Ash and Goh the reasons for the bakery's cakes being so good is because of Alcremie. Then, Goh sees a wild Milcery at a table as she takes an interest in him. Seeing that Milcery wants to go with him, Goh happily catches her and brings her back out. Grookey and Eevee tried to lick the cream on Milcery, which prompt their Trainer's to stop them. Seeing that Milcery is eyeing on his cupcake, Goh offers some to her, but she tells him that she wanted the strawberry candy on top. Goh gives Milcery the strawberry candy then twirls her around, which led her to evolve into Alcremie. The pastry man tells Goh and his friends how Milcery evolves into Alcremie.
Ash, Goh and Chloe arrive at the Gym where Opal greets them. Opal tells Chloe that the Galarian Ponyta and Rapidash that she befriended that last time she was in Glimwood Tangle were doing fine, much to her relief. Upon arriving at the arena, Ash, Goh and Chloe see Raihan standing in the middle of it. Raihan remembers Ash from his battle with Leon as he believes that the latter ran away. Ash defends Leon and tells Raihan that he would never do that. Then, Leon arrives and Opal explains the tournament she is hosting is a cake decorating tournament. Raihan tries to leave, but Opal intimidates him into staying. Opal offers the contestants some Alcremie to use. They begin to pick, with Goh using his own Alcremie.
After everyone has their Alcremie, Ash and everyone make their cakes. Much to Goh and Alcremie's dismay, Grookey continues eating all of the cream that she's producing, while the other contestants continue decorating their cakes. When the time finishes, Opal begins to sample the cakes. She first starts with Leon's, remarking on how it's flavored in a manner that she had expected from the Champion. She then tries Raihan's, left impressed with the complex flavors and its high quality. When she reaches Goh's, she becomes slightly surprised that his cake was not frosted and decorated. Goh explains that Grookey had eaten it all, which she understands and tells him that he'll get along very well with his Alcremie, much to their delight. Opal then tries Chloe's, who notes her genuine concern for Pokémon and why Ponyta and Rapidash had taken a liking to her. Finally, she tries Ash's cake and is immediately impressed, as she finds the taste to be mysterious, intriguing and something that one wanted more of as they continued eating it. She then declares Ash the winner and drags him off to a match, wanting to see what his matches were like.
Leon decides to referee the battle as Ash uses Pikachu while Opal uses her own Alcremie. Pikachu lands multiple attacks, including Iron Tail, but soon has Alcremie's cream stuck to his tail. Opal then starts her own offensive, having Alcremie use Attract and then Dazzling Gleam before Gigantamaxing her. Gigantamax Alcremie uses G-Max Finale to launch massive piles of cream at Pikachu, who in turn then starts to grow in size to match her. Everyone believes that Pikachu had Gigantamaxed too, so Ash orders a G-Max Volt Crash. However, Pikachu does not perform the move, causing everyone to realize that he had simply gotten fat from eating Alcremie's cream. Opal then decides to call off the match and everyone samples the cakes.

- Due to the controversy surrounding Raihan's original voice actor, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, he was replaced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka.
- This episode is a parody of Cake Boss, Cake Wars, Iron Chef/Iron Chef America and SugarRush (show on Netflix).
- The title is a reference to the expression "the sweet taste of victory".
