- 29: Lou Thesz wins his first world heavyweight championship, defeating Everett Marshall for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship (the American Wrestling Association's Boston version) in St. Louis, Missouri. At age 21, he becomes the youngest man to that time to win a world championship. It will be the first of several runs where, over the next 28 years, he is recognized as a world champion, with those reigns spanning from prior to World War II to well into the Vietnam War-era (when his final world championship run ended in January 1966).
