The J-Crown Championship (also known as J-Crown) was formed originally by New Japan Pro Wrestling as a way of unifying eight non-heavyweight titles from several different organizations. The J-Crown tournament was held over four nights, from August 2 to August 5, 1996.
The Great Sasuke was the inaugural champion. The multi-title changed hands four times before the World Wrestling Federation requested the return of the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship. Then champion Shinjiro Otani vacated and returned all the championships except for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. This effectively broke up the grouping of championships.
