Gives you a place to rest. Refills revolver and repeater ammunition if you have none.In-game description
The Basic Campsite is a tool which the player can utilize in Red Dead Redemption. It is automatically given to the player at the start of the game, but it can be upgraded to the Improved Campsite.
Description
The Basic Campsite allows the player to save the game anywhere in the vast world of Red Dead Redemption, fast travel to a known location or waypoint, or change outfits.
It is available from the beginning of the game and can be selected from the Kit portion of the player's Satchel.
The campsite can be used on any relatively flat piece of ground in the Wilderness that isn't too near a Settlement, gang hideout, road, trail, or water. It can be triggered while riding on a Horse.
The campsite consists of a small campfire to provide heat and light, a bedroll for the player to sleep on, and a coffee pot and cup used to relax after a long day.
The player may upgrade by purchasing the Improved Campsite from any General Store for $175 (or $88 with the second rank of honor), which provides the same functions as the Basic Campsite, but also refills some of the player's ammunition for other weapons if they had no ammo when used.

Trivia
- The campfire still burns even if it is pouring rain outside. While this campfire is too small, it isn't impossible to keep a well stocked, larger fire going even in a heavy rain storm.
- It is possible (however unlikely) to fast travel into a train.
