Effect of resveratrol on mouse ovarian vitrification and transplantation

Abstract: Background After ovarian tissue transplantation, ischemia-reperfusion injury and free radicals cause follicle depletion and apoptosis. Therefore, the use of antioxidants to reduce the production of free radicals is an important method to address the consequences of ischemia-reperfusion injury. Resveratrol is a natural active polyphenol compound with anti-inflammatory, antitumor, strong antioxidant and anti-free radical properties. The aim of this study was to investigate whether resveratrol cou… Show more

“…Some drugs and other agonists can treat the dysregulation of oxygen homeostasis in ovarian follicles due to the FSH-induced upregulation of oxidative phosphorylation in granulosa cells, especially the abnormal metabolism of reactive oxygen species, by enhancing Sirt1 expression [ 30 ]. In addition, the authors found that SIRT1 also inhibited the phosphorylation of p66Shc, suppressed the activation of fibrogenic factors, improved the ovarian morphology, and reduced ovarian oxidative stress [ 31 ].…”

“…Several plant-derived polyphenol compounds, including resveratrol, butein, fisetin, and quercetin, can activate sirtuin 1 and exert beneficial effects on longevity (188). Studies have shown that resveratrol can enhance luteinization-related gene expression and ovarian progesterone secretion and improve the quality of cryopreserved ovarian tissue and embryo outcome in mice after transplantation through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant mechanisms (189,190).…”

“…Evidence suggests that various commonly used cryoprotectants (CPAs), including glycerol, sucrose, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), are effective ·OH scavengers 28 . Additionally, synthetic and plant‐derived antioxidant substances, such as melatonin, resveratrol, and aloe vera extract, have been tested in OT cryopreservation 29,30 . Additionally, vitrification of OT using a metal containment system and found no changes in antioxidant parameters or viability of the rewarmed tissue samples 31 …”
