Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (Ukrainian: Івано-Франківська область, translit. Ivano-Frankivs’ka oblast’; referred tae as Prykarpattia an aw) is an oblast (region) in wastren Ukraine. Its admeenistrative centre is the ceety o Ivano-Frankivsk. As is the case wi maist ither oblasts o Ukraine this region haes the same name as its admeenistrative centre – whilk wis renamit bi the Soviets efter the Ukrainian writer, naitionalist an socialist Ivan Franko on 9 November 1962. Ivano-Frankivsk is kent tae Ukrainians bi a deep-ruitit alternative name an aw : Prykarpattia. This oblast, thegither wi Lviv an Ternopil regions, wis the main body o the historic region o eastren Halychyna; whilk in the 13t century wis a pairt o the Kinrick o Rus an the Halych-Volyn Principality. Alang wi the Lviv an Ternopil regions Prykarpattia is a component o the Carpathie Euroregion.
