The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, simply known as the United Kingdom and commonly abbreviated to the UK, is a country encompassing Great Britain, northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Hebrides, and many smaller islands around the perimeter of the British Isles. The UK consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Its capital and largest city is London, with the entirety of the UK possessing a population of roughly 67.3 million as of 2021. The total area of the United Kingdom is 242,495 km2 (93,628 sq mi), with 1.51% of the area consisting of water.

Overview
The British Isles were home to several groups, including the Picts, Scots, and Britons, before the Roman Empire founded the province of Britannia in modern day England in 43 CE, retreating from Great Britain in 410. The Anglo-Saxon settlement from the 5th to 7th centuries, Viking settlement from the 8th to 11th centuries, and the Norman invasion in 1066 created a melting pot of European culture within Britain.
Several wars with the French and among each other culminated in the unification of England, Scotland, and Wales into one country under one monarch by 1707. The British Empire, at its peak, had control over 23% of the global population and held 35,500,000 km2 (13,700,000 sq mi) of land by 1920. Ireland united with the British in 1801 until 1922. However, the Empire began fragmenting by the end of World War II, leaving the UK reduced to a handful of overseas territories and the British Isles.
Due to its great influence over much of history over a thousand years, the British were aware of the anomalous world, having founded Her Majesty's Foundation for the Secure Containment of the Paranormal to counteract anomalies when discovered. It is possible that the Visionary, the leader of HMFSCP, was a founding member of the SCP Foundation.
