Frances

Frances is a resident of Woodsboro, California who appears in a cameo role in Scream (2022 film). As a senior at Woodsboro High, she knew the late Wes Hicks, as well as Mindy Meeks-Martin and her twin brother, Chad Meeks-Martin.

She briefly appears at Wes' memorial located at Amber Freeman's house, 261 Turner Lane. However, while there, it clearly became a typical high school party, and eventual murder spot. She and Mindy showed romantic interest in one another.

She was portrayed by Alex Wilkinson.

Biography

Background

Frances was born in approx. August 2004. She is a Woodsboro High senior amid the Third Woodsboro Murders. As a high school student, she familiarized herself with Wes Hicks at some point, and at least two of his friends, the twins, Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin.

The Woodsboro Legacy Murders (2022)

She attends a memorial for Wes Hicks which turns into a party. The memorial occurs at 261 Turner Lane, the Freeman Residence. Likely unknown to Frances, this is also the original murder house where Stu Macher, one of the perpetrators of the original 1996 Woodsboro Murders, lived.

She was seen partying in Amber Freeman's living room and dancing with the other Woodsboro High School seniors.

At the event, she is seen in Amber Freeman's living room, watching the original Stab (1997). She specifically watches a scene that features Mindy Meeks-Martin's famous uncle, Randy Meeks, played by Christopher Speed. It is unknown whether she cares about the film, or whether she is mostly just interested in Mindy. Of the pairing, Frances appears shyer to make a move, which leads Mindy to be the more pro-active one. As Randy denotes the rules, Mindy and Frances kiss. The partygoers are forced to leave, however, and Frances makes her exit, while Mindy stays.

Fate

It is unknown if she and The Guy Throwing Cup went to New York with Sam, Tara, Chad and Mindy to study at Blackmore University which makes her fate of what happened to her with The Guy Throwing Cup unknown.

Trivia

  • She is the second known LGBT character introduced in the Scream films (after Mindy Meeks-Martin, though Officer Andrews was also heavily implied to be gay, and suspected to be as such by Sidney Prescott).
  • Her actress is uncredited.
  • Although Frances reminds Mindy that she's got her number to call her, given Scream VI (2023 film) is set to be in New York City, it's unlikely that Frances and Mindy formed any relationship after the events of the 2022 Woodsboro Murders.
  • Frances’ name is perhaps an Easter egg reference and a callback to the TV series based on an online (female) user's name seen on the Chirpster app (parody of Twitter) in “Pilot” in Season 1.
  • Due to Scream VI (2023 film) stating the Third Woodsboro Murders took place in 2022 instead of 2021, it is noted that Frances being born in August 2004 must be moved up to August 2005 instead, in order to align with the age given to her in an early script for Scream (2022 film).

Character Guide

  1. The Third Woodsboro Murders in Scream (2022) took place on the 26th anniversary, so just after the 25th anniversary of the September 1996 murders, thus in September 2022. Frances was born approximately in August 2005 (originally was for August 2004), so she would’ve been 15 the year before and turned 16 (2021), who in 2022, had just turned 17 and would turn 18 the next year after (2023).
