  • A movie that actually gets better with each passing minute, right up until a thrilling climax. It's just a shame so many people just look at the ending and think, "wow, that Tony Montana is so cool!" No, he's a sociopath and this is a morality play about a monster - or rather a man who loses sight of himself and his sensibilities because of the money, and thus becomes a monster. THAT is the tragedy.

Brian De Palma's iconic crime drama is loosely based on the 1929 novel of the same name and follows Cuban refugee Tony Montana (Al Pacino), who begins a life of crime after arriving in Miami. It chronicles his rise from a penniless thug to one of the richest and most ruthless kingpins in the world, amassing a criminal empire worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
