Sigma Scorpii

Sigma Scorpii (officially known as Alniyat) is a multiple star system in the constellation of Scorpius. It is located near the brighter red supergiant star Antares. The star system has a combined apparent visual magnitude of +2.88,[1] making it one of the brighter stars of the constellation. According to the parallax measurements that were made during the Hipparcos mission, the distance to Alniyat is about 696 light years.[2] North et al. (2007) calculated a more accurate distance of 568 light years or 509 to 643 light years.[3]
