Thanks for making a simple explanation on one of my articles. I am not really good at that and never do that. On my user page I have the articles I made, if you need some quotes to simplify go there. Have a nice week and god bless.--Sir James Paul 21:19, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Thank you, your welcome helped a lot!

On other wikis, users can be lazy about a page at first, and then other users will see that page and make it better. Of course SEWQ works the same way, but I'm worried that in the meantime, some one could say, "Hey, this changes what the quote means too much." So I want to be very careful. -Haikon 14:38, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for helping me translate again!
I was confused about words ending in "s" because I was thinking about Basic English rules of word use. Now I think, 'those are good rules for many things in simple English, but not as good for quotes.'
Commenting on stuff from my sandbox is fine. Everybody shares the whole wiki, even my userpage and sandbox, so talking about it, copying some of it to the mainspace, and changing it are all good things for anyone to do.
I learn much better and faster when a good change is explained to me, but if its easier for you, just go ahead and change it. Or change it, and explain it too. Use the way you think will make the mainspace look better in the end. -Haikon 13:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Protecting unwanted pages from being recreated

I'm no expert, I've just seen others do it. So I refer to en. wikipedia for further reading:

It seems to me that the best way is by 'transcluding the article onto a page with cascading protection enabled, such as Wikipedia:Protected titles.' :

  • Make a page Wikiquote:Protected titles.
  • Transclude the unwanted titles onto it.
  • Protect the new page with cascading protection.
  • Whenever a new spambot page (w/w/w.index.php/w/w/talk etc titles that no human will ever search for or use) pops up, add them to the Wikiquote:Protected titles page.
  • Then you will not have to delete the same page title over and over again. It will not stop other titles, very like those already protected, from beeing created, only the exact titles are protectet.

If you need better advise maybe you can talk to User:.snoopy. on Meta, he knows how to do it.

(The IP 87.118.98.9 is used to spam/make nonsense pages cross wiki and is a candidate for blocking.) --Jorunn 09:17, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the info! I might try that. --Coppertwig 00:41, 17 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I made Wikiquote:Protected pages. Drini made Wikiquote:Nospam, which is the same idea. --Coppertwig 23:25, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome back! Since this is the smallest and most controversial of the SE projects currently in existence, I'd really like to see it grow, but since it is more than adding pages, that will take time. I wish we could at least see one new page every two weeks or so. I know it isn't as much about number of pages (because EWQ pages here are unhelpful), but number of pages is nice! --Cromwellt|talk|contris 04:36, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing out that difference in my signature. You'll notice that I changed it. However, if you stop and think about it, there is nothing that says that the correct abbreviation for contributions is "contribs" instead of "contris" except custom. True, "contris" could be confused with "countries," but I don't think that would be a common error. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 23:19, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
You could look at A Tale of Two Cities for an idea of what I think is good. We should probably settle on a system, but it doesn't have to be my system. I don't own this wiki!  :)
Regarding crossing out and indenting votes, I hadn't gotten to the lower section yet. But now I have. It is true that some unbiased person should do it, but I had done it before and no one objected so I figured I could do it now, especially if I do it in an unbiased way (which I am doing). I fixed it now so that both are the same. If someone objects, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for an admin over there to revert my indents, etc. Or we could talk about it over there. Thanks for the email, in any case.
I'm glad there was a good result from having the sitenotice point to the main closure page, but I really think it should point straight to the closure proposal about this project, especially since there is a link at the top of that page back to the main closure page. Happy editing! --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 01:08, 23 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello there

Hello,

I am new to Simple WikiQuote, but I'm quite experienced with Wikipedia and Wikiquote.

Are you an Administrator?

The Page, Star Wars is a test page and needs to be deleted. Is there a tag that i shoul put on test/Vandilism pages?

Thanks

JustLovely 18:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looney Tunes: Back in Action also needs deleting JustLovely 18:57, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Simple English Wikiquote!!!
I deleted the pages you mentioned. Yes, I'm an administrator.
If you want a page to be deleted, you can put {{delete}} on the page, or put a message here on my talk page, like the one you put here, or put a message at Wikiquote:Simple talk, or at Wikiquote:Administrators#Requests for administrator attention where there's a part about things that need administrators to do something.
Again, Welcome! Coppertwig 14:48, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm an administrator on the Simple English Wikipedia, so I know how to write well on simple English. It's good to see another active user here (especially an admin). Again, thanks for the welcome! ;) -- American Eagle (talk) 19:00, 29 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh thanks. I'm hoping that if I become an administrator, I can create some MediaWiki: Gadgets. For example, Hotcat, would that be all right? I've gotten so used to the gadgets used on Simple Wikipedia and know how convenient they are. I haven't seen many here, so I started created them in my monobook.js page. Thanks -- American Eagle (talk)
Yes, that's all right. I don't know how those work, but you can do it. I'll be interested to see them.
If you don't like the words I changed on the mediawiki pages, you can tell me. Coppertwig 23:34, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

Thank you! I was posting a message here the other day to say hi and my internet went down. So: Hi and thanks for the welcome! SwirlBoy39 23:35, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, in fact I just put a new request here for adminship. We really need to look better. That's what drove me off before. I think we should start by making a proper WQ:RFA page and request template. SwirlBoy39 23:50, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Personally, I highly doubt the need. — American Eagle (talk) 23:56, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Don't we want to get bigger? At least format that page. SwirlBoy39 00:19, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't mean to canvass, and thanks for fixing it, but will you please vote in my RFA? SwirlBoy39 00:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) We don't need big, complex things now. I think it's good the way it is now. But maybe SwirlBoy39 can make it better, and that can be good, too. What do you want to change, SwirlBoy39?
Yes, I'll vote, but not today. I need to look at your contributions first.
Hey, this is fun! All three of us are here at the same time. I think this is the first time I had an edit conflict at Simple English Wikiquote! Coppertwig 00:33, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what yet. Hmm. Thanks! SwirlBoy39 00:36, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
You could look at the RfA pages for other small wikis. (Can we say "RfA" in Simple English, or do we have to say the whole words every time?) Coppertwig 00:38, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'm planning that. But, I do want to wait until I have sysop to help with G6 that may come with my moving and junk. SwirlBoy39 00:41, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've noticed some inappropriate blocks here. SwirlBoy39 01:09, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tell me about them. I didn't see them before. I looked now, and I saw that I think Riana should not be blocked. I think I'm going to unblock Riana. Coppertwig 01:19, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Somewhat urgent

I have noticed some things that need administration/clean up. Please please sysop me so I can help clean up. SwirlBoy39 01:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Tell me about the things that need administrator's attention. You can tell me here, or at Wikiquote:Administrators#Requests for administrator attention. Then I can do the things. Coppertwig 01:19, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh ok, I'll do that. I still hope I can be admin here. No one has voted. SwirlBoy39 01:27, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Be patient. Wait a week. And thank you very much for being here and helping. Coppertwig 01:36, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
What? Your RfA's been a few hours. I waited a few days before a vote, and I already had hundreds of edits before running for one. I also probably won't vote until more towards a week from now - I want to see more from you first. — American Eagle (talk) 01:44, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

An infrequent visitor

I don't know if you're familiar with jdrand, but he's just popped up on your wiki. [1] Kylu 01:50, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the help. :) I don't know if you've seen this or not, but you can make a bookmark that says this:

javascript:for (i=0; i<document.forms.length; i++) { for (j=0; j<document.forms[i].elements.length; j++) { f= document.forms[i].elements[j]; if (f.type == 'checkbox') f.checked= true; } } void 0

When you use that bookmark, it'll select all the check-boxes on the page. Useful for selective deletes. Kylu 01:58, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, but I don't know how to use that. Where would I put that code? How would I use it? (I know how to do selective deletes so I know when I would want it, but don't know how to make it work.) Coppertwig 02:00, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
If you use Firefox, go to your bookmark bar, right click, "Add bookmark", and put it in "Location" ... fill out name and description however you'd like. I can't figure how to get the trick to work on MSIE. Kylu 02:22, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Heh, sorry...forgot use. Go to a page with a ton of check-boxes, select that shortcut, and bam, they're all checked. Kylu 02:25, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! It works! I should have guessed from the first things you said. Coppertwig 02:27, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Private information

It was merely an IRC log, where he asked me for the log. I had trouble finding the location of the log, however the only personal information there was Eptalon's IP address (which I removed before pasting this here). SwirlBoy and me had cloaks, that was nothing to worry about. — w:User:Ionas68224 04:11, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know much about this. But I don't think that was about writing pages for Simple English Wikiquote. Please post only things that everyone can understand and that are good for this project. Maybe IRC logs are not "Simple English". Maybe you can use email to send things to SwirlBoy39 when he asks for them. Even an IP address can be private.
But welcome to Simple English Wikiquote! Maybe you'll write some quote pages here? Coppertwig 12:11, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I want to begin working on the English Wikiquote, but I have other stuff going on at SEW, so I'll continue there. w:User:Ionas68224 17:39, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Signature

In terms of your signature, I think that it would be best if you would keep the size of the smiley face the same for every time that you sign the signature instead of having it be random because it can be kind of a put off. Cheers, Razorflame 04:04, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh. Could you explain why it's a put off? Also, does it come out too large on some browsers, so that it takes up too much space on the page? Thanks. Coppertwig 12:30, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think I understand. I'm starting to make them all the same size, 1.5em. But still different colours, for fun. Coppertwig 17:54, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't asking you to keep out the random colors, as I like random colors, but I am glad that you decided to take my other advice, as it kind of makes people think that you are a little bit crazy :P Cheers, Razorflame 23:32, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
For now, I'm making the smileys all the same size, but I might change my mind later and start making them different sizes again. "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." (Robin Williams.) Coppertwig 13:46, 17 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bureaucratship

Hello there. Congratulations on the bureaucratship, Coppertwig! I was wondering if closing my RfA early would be appropriate with you now, as pretty much every user here has !voted. Thanks, RyanCross (talk) 02:18, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on your first 'crat action on my bot! Chenzw  Talk  08:49, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Kylu and Chenzw.
RyanCross, because you asked again, I thought about it again, but my answer is still the same. I think on English Wikipedia, RfAs are for 7 days even if they have 100% support and a large number of votes. If I closed yours early, everyone would want me to close theirs early, and then I would have to make a lot of difficult decisions. Not everyone has voted. I'm sorry, you'll have to wait. Be patient. A member of my family said that "bureaucrat" sounds like someone who is always making people wait. If you need things to be done by an administrator, you can put them in the requests for administrator attention. If you want to know whether there's non-admin rollback here: I used Special:Userrights and there is no button for me to give rollback to anyone. Coppertwig 12:55, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

RyanCross' RfA thanks

Coppertwig, I would like to thank you for your closing my requests for adminship as successful with 8   Supports, and 0   Opposes as the total outcome, and I am now a Wikiquote administrator. I must say, I am very happy and satisfied to help the Wikiquote community in a brand new way, and that I know the community trusts me with the administrative tools. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. Knowing the the overall community trusts me is very heartfelt, and knowing that the community believes I will do well, is very, very good feeling. When I first arrived at Simple English Wikiquote, I saw that the wiki was still growing, so I decided to start contributing to a nice wiki like Simple English Wikiquote. I worked on a lot of wikifying, copyediting, article creation, simplifying quotes, and much more things that I believe have helped improve the quality of the Simple English Wikiquote for all of the readers who come to learn. Every edit we make makes a difference, and making that difference has improved the knowledge of numerous people in our world, which makes editing all the fun. I did my best to work on articles and some general maintenance around here, and I soon realized that more administrators were needed in the most part, so I decided to try to become an administrator here when American Eagle, kindly offered to nominate me for adminship. I was thoroughly surprised how my RfA went, and I am very thankful that I can partake the duties as an administrator, and I will do my very best to help the Simple English Wikiquote community. Please, if you have any comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page, and I will respond as swiftly as I possibly can. If you need help from an administrator like me, be my guest! You know where to ask (*wink, wink*). ;) I'm sure I could be of assistance. I would love to help you! :)

Many thanks,
RyanCross (talk) 03:36, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bureaucrat

Hey, Mr. Bureaucrat, would you mind renaming the first user here to User:^(bad username1). It's very inappropriate and I'm tired of seeing it every time I look at the page. Thanks! -- American Eagle (talk) 02:08, 2 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay. I'm not sure if I should do that. It says "has been migrated to the unified login system. Renaming it will cause the local user to be detached from the global one." Coppertwig 22:41, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, I don't know. It's an offensive user name, and therefore inappropriate and should be blocked (and changed). I don't see how it's permitted anywhere else, and there is no edit count for it. Perhaps you could ask another B'crat? I don't know, but I don't like it here. -- American Eagle (talk) 23:04, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the delay again. I've asked WJBScribe what to do. Coppertwig 18:50, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi; I don't think a rename will cause any problems, as I explain on Will's talk page on en.wiki. Best wishes, How do you turn this on 18:56, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I changed the username. I'm sorry again for taking a long time. I was busy on English Wikipedia. I'll try to look here more often, but please also feel free to talk to me on my English Wikipedia talk page or send me email if I'm not here often. American Eagle, please see what WJBScribe said. Thanks. Coppertwig 15:58, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I read it. Thanks for asking and renaming it. You're a good bureaucrat for us. Thank you. -- American Eagle (talk) 18:04, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

New bot?

I've noticed ChtitBot (talk changes) making some bot edits. Could you, as the 'crat around here, give it the flag - all of its changes have been good. Thanks. -- American Eagle (talk) 05:11, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry to be like a bureaucrat, but please ask the community at Simple talk. Coppertwig 18:50, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Giving a bot flag doesn't really need consensus. It has only done good. -- American Eagle (talk) 18:59, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think giving a bot flag needs consensus. It would not be a good idea to just give a bot flag to everyone who asks. Then vandals could get a bot flag and hide their changes from the New Changes list. (I don't mean that ChitBot is a vandal. I just like to do it the same way every time.) If you like, you can start a discussion at Simple Talk to make a simpler way to give bot flags, so that it will be easier next time. If the community thinks a simpler way is a good idea and I think it's not a bad idea then I'll do it that way. But I think talking at Simple talk is simple anyway. Coppertwig 15:52, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I've asked here. I think that it'd be okay to do this one, but I agree with you in principle. Thanks. -- American Eagle (talk) 18:04, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Request for Bureaucratship

Hey Coppertwig, I was wondering if you had any comments on my RfB? You haven't said anything, so I'm just wondering. Thanks. -- American Eagle (talk) 21:08, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, American Eagle.
I think that usually, if someone votes in a discussion, then they don't close the discussion, because they're not neutral (impartial). The person closing a discussion should be neutral. If I voted, or if I think I can't be neutral for some reason, then I won't close a discussion. I think you will see that on English Wikipedia, if a bureaucrat votes in an RfA then they don't close it. Or if someone votes in an AfD then they don't close it. See what I said when I accepted after you nominated me for bureaucrat: User:Coppertwig (Bureaucrat)
Anyway, I know about the RfA and the RfB. Someone can feel free to remind me if I don't close one of them more than 24 hours after the time they are scheduled to end. Coppertwig 22:58, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh okay. By the way, how do you get the smiley in your signature change sizes and colors every time? It has be boggled (is it in your settings, or what?). Thanks, American Eagle (talk) 03:39, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I do it by hand each time. (I copy it with the computer mouse.) It's not really in my signature. If someone knows a way to make things change every time like that, I would like to know. But another reason I didn't put it in my signature is that sometimes I like to have no smiley. For some kinds of warnings, the person might think I was laughing at them if I put a smiley, especially someone who hasn't seen my signature before. Coppertwig 12:26, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I know a way, I'll make it for you. ✞Static Christian00:26, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow! Thanks! Coppertwig 01:03, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
But I can't make the size change. Is that OK? ✞Static Christian07:38, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Making them all the same size is fine. These days, I usually make them all the same size. If I want to put a big one, I can just put one more big smiley in my message and still have the ordinary-size one in the signature. See User talk:Coppertwig#Signature. Coppertwig 13:29, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK I'll start it at User:Coppertwig/sig. ✞Static Christian13:32, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just use {{subst:User:Coppertwig/sig}} in the username field. The colours are from ENWP's list of X11 colours, I think. I just picked ones that were easy to read on a white background. Microchip08 14:10, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Protection

Can you protect this template please? It's used on a lot of pages (see 'What Links Here?') and is a high-risk template. --Gwib -(talk)- 13:49, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't think any pages need to be protected, except pages that are created by vandals, because this is a small project. You can start a discussion on Simple talk. If there is vandalism, we can revert it. If there is a lot of vandalism, then we can protect pages. I don't think there is a lot of vandalism. I don't think that template had any vandalism. Sorry. Coppertwig (talk) 13:58, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
What about {{simple}}? That's a protected template... --Gwib -(talk)- 13:59, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think it's semi-protected. Do you mean you want Template:Meaning to be semi-protected? I usually oppose protecting or semi-protecting pages or templates unless there's a big problem with vandalism. But if another admin semi-protects a template that's used on a large number of pages, I don't oppose it strongly and I won't ask them to unprotect it. You could ask American Eagle to semi-protect the Meaning template. I don't think a discussion on Simple talk is needed for that, unless someone else says they oppose it too.
Are you able to edit the Main Page? I think it's semi-protected. I oppose fully protecting it. Coppertwig (talk) 14:08, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, I don't edit here much, so if you say you can handle any potential vandalism to the template, it probably doesn't need protection. I just saw {{simple}} protected (I use it a lot) and thought maybe {{meaning}} would need protection as well.
Thanks for the info! --Gwib -(talk)- 14:23, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Thanks for the suggestion, and for your help here! If there was vandalism, probably somebody would see it in New changes and fix it. Coppertwig (talk) 14:29, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, IMO, very high-risk templates (100+ uses or so), the Main Page, and perhaps a few other pages should be semi-protected from vandalism. There isn't a reason these pages should be edited. But I do oppose full protected (except for like WQ:GFDL). God bless, American Eagle (talk) 18:46, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Other people might think there are reasons to edit those pages. Someone might want to change the colour of the Main Page, or of the templates, for example. Coppertwig (talk) 19:34, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, then you'd discuss it on Simple talk. We shouldn't have people changing the Main Page colors without approval, especially by anons. -- American Eagle (talk) 20:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Do you think everyone who changes the Main Page should ask on Simple talk first? If other people can change the colour of the Main Page, I see no reason to stop anonymous editors from doing it too if they want to. On a wiki, most of the time we change something first, then if someone doesn't like it they change it back. It's easier that way. Coppertwig (talk) 20:16, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
In general, yes. Perhaps not always it's needed, but some changes, especially like changing the {{simple}} and {{meaning}} templates which are part of the MoS, should be discussed first. And I don't see why anyone should be changing the colors of the Main Page, if they wanted to redo it, that would be fine, but mention it on Simple talk before any major changes. -- American Eagle (talk) 20:54, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I just ate a sesame-honey bar that was for Hallowe'en. How was your Hallowe'en? Have you tried translating some quotes into Simple English? See pages linking to Template:Need translation. Or, you could try looking at many pages in Special:Allpages and see if any need to have the {{needs translation}} template to be put on them because they have some quotes that don't have a Simple English translation. Some quotes, like Dr. Seuss, are already simple and don't need a translation. Coppertwig(talk) 21:43, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think most of the time it's better to link to Simple English Wiktionary. You can link to Wiktionary with wikt:. Yesterday I did some links to Simple English Wiktionary, and if they didn't have pages there, then I went there and made pages for those words. Thanks for helping translate! Thank you. I don't know whether it was the wrong thing or not. You were trying to help. I hope nothing will happen that will make that kind of message necessary again anyway. But I think what it depends on is: would the user want those messages here, or not? I don't know that. When someone is blocked, they find out if they try to edit and get a block message. Putting a message here lets many people see it. That might not be the best thing. Coppertwig(talk) 12:37, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Message about other projects

It was merely because StaticChristian is banned at Simple English Wikipedia, so the message couldn't be left there. He asked for messages regarding himself and his edits relating to SEWP to be submitted here (see here). RyanCross approached him about his IP at this project, because StaticChristian neither edits or checks the English Wikipedia. It was a simple link: He denied vandalising RyanCross's page at the English Wikipedia with his IP, but that particular IP is blocked as a sockpuppet of StaticChristian at the SEWP. There was simply no other way to contact him regarding that vandalism, and as he asked specifically for messages regarding SEWP to be left here, I did so. Best, PeterSymonds 16:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem. I guess I could've toned it down a little on his talk page; my patience was low that day for another reason. Best, PeterSymonds 23:38, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

letting you know

I have posted here to see what the community thinks about the current policy on the removal of rights. Since this is of some relevance to you, I just thought you should know. Shapiros10 (talk) 01:46, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for telling me! Coppertwig(talk) 01:48, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Note

I shouldn't have to tell you if I am going to ask the community if they think you should be decratted. The best way to do this is to request for demotion. That is the best way to gauge a communitys' consensus as to whether or not you should be demoted. I shouldn't have to post anything on your talk page first if I feel dissatisfied with how you have handled the situation. In fact, you could have avoided this if you had simply closed AE's RfB, regardless of whether you voted in it or not. Razorflame 01:51, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK, I'll discuss it on that process, but that process probably won't make me decide to resign. If you want a steward to demote me, you can try that. If you want to ask me to resign, you need to start by talking with me on my talk page about any problems, before starting a vote. Coppertwig(talk) 01:56, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I will say that I did handle the situation quite badly. However, that won't change my mind about anything. I do not think that you are cut out to be a bureaucrat, but there isn't much that I can do at this point in time. Razorflame 02:00, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm still interested in talking about it. I would like you to explain what it is that you don't like. Maybe if we talk about things we might find that we agree on many things. Maybe we won't agree, but at least we will understand what the other person thinks. Coppertwig(talk) 02:02, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

(Outdenting) First, if you are the only bureaucrat on a project, you should, in all likelihood, not vote in any RfAs or RfXs as that would not allow you to be impartial and make impartial decisions. After we get more than one bureaucrat on here, then I wouldn't mind you voting in RfAs or RfXs, however, you should make sure not to vote in any that AE or RC would have already voted in. I wouldn't have minded that. Second, you definitely should have closed the RfB of AE. Refusing to close a request when you are the only bureaucrat on the project is like saying you won't do it ever (kind of). Therefore, you should never ever say that you won't close a request, especially when you are the only bureaucrat here. I don't mind everything else you have done here throughout, and I even commend you for some of the work that you have done here, but I did not like what you decided to do over the past week. I would highly recommend that you close AE's RfB, regardless of how you might feel on the subject, or if you have voted or not. Thanks for listening, Razorflame 05:01, 1 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm very sorry that I didn't answer this earlier. I couldn't answer quickly because I had to think about it; then I was busy; then I forgot.
Thank you for your message and for your recommendation.
Re not voting in RfXs if one is the only bureaucrat: I think that on small projects with only one or a small number of bureaucrats, that the bureaucrats often vote in the discussions and close them even if they've voted. I plan to continue doing what I said when I accepted the nomination to be a bureaucrat: [2] except that I learned, when closing AE's first RfB, that asking stewards probably doesn't work.
When I accepted the nomination to be a bureaucrat, I didn't agree not to vote in any discussions. I understand that sometimes it makes sense for a bureaucrat not to vote, and I've done it that way many times and plan to continue to be careful about things like that.
You said that I should have closed AE's RfB, but I don't understand your reason for saying that. You say it's like saying I won't do it ever. I'm sorry: I don't know what you mean by that. Do you mean you were worried that the discussion might never be closed by anyone? I don't think I would have let that happen.
I wasn't willing to close AE's RfB. I said I wasn't going to close it. I was able to say that because I knew it was true. I knew I wasn't going to change my mind. This is why: I knew that there were many possible ways things could happen, but also that if I ever had a choice between resigning and closing the RfB, I would choose to resign; and I knew that I always had a choice of resigning. So me closing the RfB was not going to happen. I thought that I probably would not have to resign, though. And things worked out in one of the ways I thought they would.
Whether someone is impartial or not is a lot more than just whether they voted or not. Coppertwig(talk) 00:27, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

RfB thanks

Thank you for voting in my request of bureaucratship (yes, I can spell that now :P). RyanCross has closed the request has "successful" and I have now been granted the bureaucrat flag. Hi there.

Hi there, Coppertwig. I know that we have had our differences in the past, however, this time, I am on a very important mission. I would like to ask you if you would become more active over on the Simple English Wiktionary. Currently, there are very few active editors, and I fear that we may lose the Simple English Wiktionary due to the fact that we might not have enough active editors to keep it afloat. I implore you to become more active over there. Thanks, Razorflame 01:37, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Alright. Hope to see you become more active there :). Cheers, Razorflame 14:21, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
And thank you very much for your activity at Simple English Wiktionary! I agree that this is an important time to contribute to Simple English Wiktionary, to show that it's an active project, so that the discussion about closing it will end. That's why I decided to become an admin there. I hope others will contribute to that project too. Coppertwig(talk) 01:56, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
That is also the reason why I decided to become an admin there as well, to make sure that it won't close no matter what :). I won't let that happen :). Just breached the 1,000 edit mark :). Cheers, Razorflame 03:53, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your sig

Hello Coppertwig. As much as I like your signature, unfortunately it violates the signature policy. Please see this part of the signature policy. Here it says transclusions are prohibited because sig pages are _targets of vandalism. I see you use User:Coppertwig/sig as your sig. I'm afraid you must change this. Thank you. ѕwirlвoy  22:50, 14 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for thinking of that, SwirlBoy39, but I don't think it breaks the signature policy, and I don't think it's a problem for vandalism, because I don't transclude it. I substitute it. See w:en:Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Coppertwig/Signature. Coppertwig(talk) 01:41, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

RfA closure

Hey, you said on your userpage (and the email) that you would on a wikibreak until Thursday or Friday, so I went ahead and closed Wikiquote:Requests for adminship/Juliancolton as "successful". :) Have a nice day, TheAE talk 00:39, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Great! Thanks! Coppertwig(talk) 22:34, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
