Participles used as adjectives

change

Should we include a usage note anywhere in Wiktionary that participles can be used in the same functioning as adjectives (and that some are)? If this note were to be created, where should it go? TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 21:58, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think we want to get into writing a grammar.--Brett (talk) 11:54, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fundraising 2010

change

Hey everyone!

I know I've talked to many of you about this before and a good amount of the regulars know that I'm working on fundraising (for those that don't know me I'm User:Jamesofur as well). This year we want to be as community and data driven as possible and are looking for input not only with localizing and translating but also with pointing out messages that don't won't work well in your regions and proposing messages that you think would work well! You can see some of the current suggestions (and propose your own) on the Meta messaging page but I also want to encourage everyone to discuss and ask questions here (or on IRC, #wikimedia-fundraising, or email or wherever :) ). On the meta pages you will find links to all our stats and tests and more survey and other info then you could want :) I look forward to seeing more of you on Meta and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions! Proposal for increasing output

change

I'd like to propose we make an entry writing contest to encourage more contributions from people, loosely based on en.wp's WikiCup and en.wikinews' competitions. Basically, the idea is that people try to write as many fully-formed entries as they can in a certain time period (say, a few weeks or a month), and the person with the most written entries at the end of the time frame would win a barnstar or some sort of reward. Simple.wikt really needs a boost nowadays, with many of the old regulars now inactive. Based on previous experience with this sort of thing, I believe that the modicum of effort it takes to set up a competition would be outweighed by the resulting big boost in articles and increased interest in the project. This could attract some people from simple.wp with a little advance publicity; chances are a few will stick around. (I have a tentative set of rules for the contest, but I'd like feedback on the general idea first.) Thoughts? Tempodivalse [talk] 23:36, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of unrequired templates

change

Wpeaceout (talk · changes) has recently created several templates for article quality, and others such as {{Mbox}}, {{ombox}} etc. IMO, these aren't required here, and should be deleted, but I want the community's take on this. I have notified the user of this in his talk page. Pmlineditor  09:17, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

These templates can be useful in the future. But they need to be corrected with the correct CSS configuration in MediaWiki:Common.css. Hydriz (talk) 09:34, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know that the mbox, ombox ones can be useful, but what about the article quality ones? Pmlineditor  09:38, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, my friend. They are indeed useless. They can be classified under QD. Hydriz (talk) 09:41, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nuke them if they aren't needed yet. -Barras (talk) 10:16, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The {{mbox}}, {{ombox}}, etc templates could be used somewhere, but the "article quality" ones? Probably not, since we don't, and likely never will, have a ratings system. Should be requested for deletion if not an outright QD. Tempodivalse [talk] 15:59, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

change

Hello,

do you need a certain edit count, vandalism revert experience, or age to get rollback if you have this right on another wiki?

Wpeaceout (talk) 22:09, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are no hard rules for who can get rollback, but standards are quite low. Usually, if you've made a few dozen productive edits or have good experience on other Wikimedia wikis, that should be enough. There are certainly no age restrictions. Entry templates

change

Would it be possible (or even wanted) to have a quicker way to create entries. Right now, we need to do them mostly manually, aside from other forms of words. It shouldn't be too hard to do what en.wikt does. See [1]. All we need to do is create the entry templates. A sample of the entry templates is here. Mikemoral♪♫ 23:04, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd support implementing this feature. I wonder why it's not been thought of before. Tempodivalse [talk] 20:11, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
