Mariupol (UK: /ˌmæriˈpɒl/, US: /ˌmɑːr-, -pəl/; Ukrainian: Маріу́поль, romanizedMariupol' [mɐr⁽ʲ⁾iˈupolʲ] (audio speaker iconlisten); also Маріюпіль Mariiupil [mɐr⁽ʲ⁾iˈjupilʲ];[1] Russian: Мариу́поль, romanized: Mariúpol' [mərʲɪˈupəlʲ]; Greek: Μαριούπολη, romanizedMarioúpoli) is a city in south eastern Ukraine, on the north coast of the Sea of Azov. It is the tenth-largest city in Ukraine,[2] and the second largest in the Donetsk Oblast.[3] About 450.000 people live there.
