Gato (牙刀（がとう）) is a character from the Fatal Fury series. He made his debut in Garou: Mark of the Wolves as a serious and powerful martial artist as well as Hotaru Futaba's potential brother. He is also a reoccuring character in The King of Fighters series.

His official nickname is "Taciturn Fist of Vengeance" (寡黙（かもく）なる復讐（ふくしゅう）の拳（けん）).

Personality

Ever since his family was torn apart by his father Gao's murder of his mother, Gato has become a ruthless and deeply serious individual, often expressing himself through sharp grunts. He harbors a cold, disdainful view of others and rarely shows them respect. However, his demeanor softens slightly in the presence of Hotaru Futaba, hinting at the possibility that she is indeed his younger sister. Gato's harsh and stoic exterior may serve as a protective shield, keeping Hotaru from being drawn into his dangerous world. This is subtly supported by his indirect actions, such as accepting Geese Howard's offer to join forces with Billy and Yamazaki—ostensibly to prevent harm from coming to her.

Despite his callous nature, Gato harbors an even greater hatred for those who are more evil than he is. Toward those who treat him with civility, he remains reserved, choosing to keep his distance and often slipping away quietly to handle his own affairs, unwilling to entangle anyone else in his perilous life.

Abilites

  • Sense - Gato possesses a heightened ability to sense the presence of people nearby. This skill was further refined during a period when he lost his sight in the Garou subseries. Although his vision has since healed, Gato has chosen to forego relying on eyesight, instead employing voluntary sensory deprivation to sharpen his other senses and enhance his combat abilities.
  • Energy Explosion - Gato can generate small bursts of energy, using them to attack or disrupt his opponents.
  • Energy Attacks - He is capable of channeling energy into his feet, allowing him to deliver powerful, energy-infused strikes.
  • Acrobatics - Gato is exceptionally skilled in acrobatics, utilizing his agility and flexibility to outmaneuver opponents during combat.
  • Swimming - Likely due to his rigorous training, Gato has developed impressive swimming capabilities. He can hold his breath underwater for extended periods, reportedly up to 10 minutes.

Fighting style

Gato uses an external Chinese martial art which heavily involves powerful, explosive strikes. He also mixes in Bajiquan, Xinyiliuhequan and others. His fighting style often makes use of palm-based attacks such as his standing C, Shinga (Quake Fang), Kouga (Pit Fang), Shunga (Blink Fang; KOF only), Zero Kiba (Zero Fang) and Tenryuu Retsuga (Heaven Dragon Violent Fang). He also has a variation of the Senshippo used by both Tung Fu Rue and Sie Kensou, known as the Totsuga (Thrust Fang).

A majority of his attacks have a "fang"-naming motif, and focus on dealing heavy damage in short bursts towards his opposition as mercilessly as possible.
