Not much is known about the Ancients' planet. Apparently, it had a different flora and fauna than earth, and less "technological limitations" compared to Sonic's world.[1]
The planet came into existence several thousands of years ago. This was also where the seven Chaos Emeralds came from. At one point, the planet became inhabited by a highly-advanced civilization known as the Ancients, which made several sophisticated technologies, many of which involving the Emeralds.[2] Millenia ago, however, the Ancients learned of the impending doom of their planet by The End, a mysterious evil that had been responsible for the destruction of hundreds of other worlds. In response, they built machines known as Chaos Engines that could harness Chaos Emerald energy and use it to power their spaceships to escape. As they fled, they watched the destruction of their home planet.[3]
Legacy
After the destruction of their world, the Ancients set out to find another planet to live on. However, the Chaos Emeralds on their spaceships started reacting to the Master Emerald on the earth, drawing them there.[3] After crash-landing on the Starfall Islands on earth, the Ancients began rebuilding their society, adaptating to the ecological and technological differences on this new world.[1] However, they still missed their old home, and so they built Cyber Space in order to preserve their lost cultural heritage, as well as their hopes and dreams, amongst other things.[4]
Just like on their home world, the Ancients soon learned that The End was still after them and planning to destroy the earth. In a desperate attempt to stop it from causing further damage, they armed the Starfall Islands with weaponry and robots and sealed the evil entity within Cyber Space.[5][3] The Ancients would, however, vanish after unknown events.
