The Crystal Attack (クリスタル攻撃, Kurisutaru Kōgeki^?) is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It's an ability used by Metal Sonic in his Metal Madness and Metal Overlord forms in which he fires crystalline spikes at his opponent.

Description

When performing the Crystal Attack, Metal Madness will launch the spines on his back as missiles that will sprout into indestructible crystal spike formations and use his left-hand to shoot his claws as missiles to trap his enemies in crystal cages.

As Metal Overlord, he forms large chunks of blue crystal and fires them from his mouth as projectiles powerful enough to stun Super State users. When Master Overlord performs this attack, he fires the large chunks of bluish green crystal that are stored in the back of his pelvis section at his opponents.

Sonic Heroes

In Sonic Heroes, the Crystal Attack is used during both of Metal Madness and Metal Overlord's battle against Team Sonic, Team Rose, Team Chaotix and Team Dark. The first version of the attack will trap team members in crystal cages if they hit, rendering that member unusable, but they can be broken if attacked repeatedly. If all team members are caught, however, the player will lose a life.

When Metal Overlord performs this attack, it cannot damage the playable characters, it will knock them back if they are hit. However, the player can blast through the Crystal Attack with Super Sonic's Rocket Accel, which will in turn partially fill the Team Blast Gauge.

Shadow Generations

In Shadow Generations, the Crystal Attack reappears in Shadow Generations during Metal Overlord's battle against Shadow the Hedgehog. While using this ability, Master Overlord generates a large chunk of blue crystal before firing it at Shadow. Shadow must use Doom Surf to perform a spin to whack the crystal back at him, which will make Metal Overlord deflect it back at Shadow two times before it stuns him.

The Crystal Attack appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. It only appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog #11, where it was used during Master Overlord's battle against Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow at the Master Emerald's shrine.
