Nack the Weasel is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. He is a recurring antagonist of various characters, particularly Chaotix (a group of which he was once a member). He is a resident of the Special Zone, and he frequently uses size-changing technology in his schemes.
History
Nack used to be a member of the Chaotix Crew, serving as one of the guardians of his native Special Zone. However, he betrayed the Chaotix to the Brotherhood of Metallix for money, first by giving the Brotherhood access to the Omni-Viewer's system and then leading the other members of Chaotix (as well as Knuckles) into a trap. However, when the Metallix felt that they had no further use for him, they betrayed him in turn. He had expected this, however, and come prepared with a disruptor gun with the power to destroy all of them. Unfortunately, he was blasted in the back before he could use it (Knuckles later took and used it instead),[1] and spent the next few months in a prison hospital. However, he recovered more quickly than expected and managed to escape. Acquiring a treasure map to the Lost Pyramid of Sandopolis, he travelled to the Floating Island and used his shrink ray in an attempt to steal the Pyramid's treasures. However, he was thwarted by Knuckles and Chaotix, and once again sent to prison.[2]
Eventually, he once again managed to escape from prison, and fell into the employ of the villainous Lord Sidewinder. He first supplied Sidewinder with a shrinking device,[3] and was later hired to steal Super Sonic, who, at this point, had been frozen in time within the Omni-Viewer's force-field. He infiltrated the Black Asteroid, where the Chaotix intended to entomb Super Sonic, and used his shrinking ray to reduce Chaotix and Sonic the Hedgehog to the size of mice. He captured the Chaotix,[4] but Sonic was able to steal his shrink ray and turn it on Nack. Unfortunately for Nack, Sonic used the shrinking ray for too long, and Nack shrank so small he disappeared.[5]
Eventually, Nack managed to find a way to return to normal size, and set out to get revenge on Sonic. Nack stole half the gold bars from the Metropolis Zone Bank by shrinking himself to microscopic size, slipping through a tiny crack in the bank vault's door, turning the gold bars microscopic, and taking them with him. In his size, Nack was too small to be noticed by the security camera, but he left behind a note to Sonic, signing it from "an old friend". In the note, he told Sonic he would return the following night to seal the other half of the gold and dared the hedgehog to stop him. After the bank manager informed Sonic, the hedgehog guarded the bank vault the whole night, only for Nack to repeat his strategy and steal the gold right out from under Sonic's nose to make him look like a fool. However, Sonic's friend, Porker Lewis, had stuck a tiny tracking device to one of the gold bars and the two heroes tracked the gold back to Nack's hideout. When Sonic broke into Nack's hideout, he used a new growth ray that he invented to turn himself huge and fought Sonic, taking advantage of the hedgehog's inability to fully build up his speed indoors. However, Porker had called the police while Nack was fighting Sonic, and some police cars arrived. Upon hearing the sirens, Nack shrank himself to microscopic size and escaped, not wanting to fight Sonic and the cops. However, Sonic and Porker recovered the gold Nack stole.[6]
He finally teamed up with Robotnik's loyal lackey Grimer, developing a belt-like device that could shrink people down to sub-molecular levels. It is never officially stated why he did this, but it is assumed he was paid, or promised payment, by Grimer. Using this, he and Grimer intended to retrieve Robotnik (who had been shrunken to these levels and was presumed dead); in the process, they came across the sub-molecular, mystical world of Shanazar. Nack would eventually help Robotnik not only return to Mobius but also merge it with Shanazar in the process, after which he was never seen again.
Personality
Nack is very greedy and selfish, caring only about money and himself. Nack is willing to do anything to make money, even betray his teammates, showing himself to be very immoral and treacherous. Nack is also arrogant regarding his intelligence and has a condescending attitude, sometimes making mocking remarks about other people's intelligence.
Powers and abilities
Nack is a scientific genius, specializing in creating size-changing technology, such as a blaster that can miniaturize itself, a shrink ray which can shrink a _target or restore it to its normal size, and a growth ray which can enlarge things. Nack would use his shrink ray for a variety of purposes, such as to conceal weapons,[7] shrink his enemies so that they could no longer hurt him and easily be captured,[4] or shrink his stolen loot to make it easier to carry.[2] Nack is also a skilled hacker, as shown with his knowledge of how to hack the Omni-Viewer.

Trivia
- Whereas the game version of Nack had only four fingers on each hand during the comic's run, the STC version of Nack has five, as do the other characters in the series. He would, however, gain a fifth finger in the games starting with Sonic Superstars.
- Oddly, after having such a crucial role in starting the Shanazar run of stories, Nack never really had much of a role in those stories. Nigel Kitching revealed on the sonicthecomic Yahoo group that he originally planned to have Sonic chase after Nack through Shanazar so he could use his belt device to return to Mobius, but he was fired off the comic before that could happen (he was rehired by a later editor).
