Sonic Mania

HardBoiledHeaviesTransformed
Sonic and Tails with the Hard Boiled Heavies, from Sonic Mania.

In Sonic Mania, some time after the Angel Island incident, Sonic and Tails were relaxing when the fox cub picked up a strange energy reading coming from Angel Island. Tails subsequently convinced Sonic to investigate the power source with him.[22][23] Upon their arrival, they found five Eggrobos called the Hard Boiled Heavies excavating the island already. The robots soon found a mysterious gemstone called the Phantom Ruby and activated it, causing Sonic and Tails, along with Knuckles, who was resting nearby, to get teleported away. The trio ended up in Green Hill, along with the newly upgraded Eggrobos, who retreated with the ruby, leaving Sonic and his group to chase them down.

The trio was eventually attacked by Dr. Eggman and his Death Egg Robot. Even so, they managed to defeat Eggman, causing him to fall into a hole. Following the doctor, Sonic and his team saw Eggman take the Phantom Ruby from the Hard Boiled Heavies, who had begun to disobey him. Once Eggman obtained the ruby, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails got sent to Chemical Plant by the gem's power. Not set back by their displacement, Sonic and his gang continued their pursuit of Eggman, occasionally clashing with the Hard Boiled Heavies and other foes along the way. Whenever they caught up to Eggman, however, the doctor either gave them the slip or sent them away with the Phantom Ruby.

Along the way, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles found out that Dr. Eggman had seized Little Planet again. There, the doctor and the Hard Boiled Heavies housed a new base of operations: the Titanic Monarch. Eventually, the trio made their way to the heart of the robotic area where they faced Eggman in his Phantom Egg mech and four of the newly upgraded Phantom Heavies. When the heroes managed to defeat Eggman, the Phantom Ruby reacted violently and transported Sonic and Eggman to another dimension. The leader of the Hard Boiled Heavies, the Heavy King, was present here too and was now upgraded to the Phantom King. He took the Phantom Ruby for himself, but Eggman, who was not prepared to lose the ruby so easily, faced the traitorous robot in his Klepto Mobile. Knowing he had to combat them both, Sonic used the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic. He managed to defeat both Eggman and the Phantom King and then reverted to his normal state. The Phantom Ruby subsequently reacted to the Chaos Emeralds' power and took Sonic with it through a warp, heading towards places unknown.

Sonic Mania Plus

SMPJP1
Classic Sonic finds the trapped Ray and Mighty on Angel Island, from Sonic Mania Plus.

In Sonic Mania Plus, Classic Sonic had just returned to his world following the War to Take Back the Planet. Upon his arrival however, he discovered the Phantom Ruby had survived and followed him home. As Sonic attempted to retrieve the ruby when it floated away, he came across Mighty and Ray, both of whom were trapped in a Capsule. After Sonic freed the duo though, the Heavy Magician revealed herself to be one of them in disguise. She immediately after took the Phantom Ruby and left. Though Sonic and his companion gave chase, they were too late to stop the Heavy Magician from using the Phantom Ruby to revive the Hard Boiled Heavies who had been destroyed. The robots' resurrection also warped them all to Green Hill. There, the revived Hard Boiled Heavies ran off with the Phantom Ruby. Sonic thus set off in search of the Phantom Ruby again, but with Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Ray by his side.

The group was eventually attacked by Dr. Eggman and his Death Egg Robot. Even so, they managed to defeat Eggman, causing him to fall into a hole. Following the doctor, Sonic and his team saw Eggman take the Phantom Ruby from the Hard Boiled Heavies, who once again refused to obey him. Once Eggman obtained the ruby, Sonic and his group got sent to the Chemical Plant by the gem's power. Not set back by their displacement, the gang continued their pursuit of Eggman, occasionally clashing with the Hard Boiled Heavies and other old foes along the way. Whenever they caught up to Eggman, however, the doctor either gave them the slip or sent them away with the Phantom Ruby.

Eventually, Sonic and his comrades found out that Dr. Eggman had captured Little Planet once again and rebuilt the Titanic Monarch there. Eventually, the heroic group made their way into the heart of the fortress, where they faced Eggman in his Phantom Egg mech and four of the recently re-upgraded Phantom Heavies. Despite the odds, they managed to defeat the doctor, resulting in the Phantom Ruby creating a rift that began devouring the Titanic Monarch. Assuming their Super States with the aid of the Chaos Emeralds, however, Sonic and his group escaped the rift, knocking Eggman into it in the process. Afterward, Sonic and his friends closed off their adventure with a trip to an ice cream parlor, only for the Heavy King to make an appearance and surprise them with a sundae.

Sonic Superstars

In Sonic Superstars, at some point before the Chaos incident, Sonic joined Tails, in an adventure to the mystical Northstar Islands to defeat Dr. Eggman, who had teamed up with Fang the Hunter and a mysterious girl named Trip the Sungazer to turn the islands' inhabitants into Badniks. Later in Pinball Carnival Zone Sonic and Tails would join Amy and Knuckles. Later through their adventure in Golden Capital Zone which they would learn of Trip the Sungazer and her Dragon form they would proceed through Frozen Base Zone to build egg mobiles to fly up to Egg Fortress Zone which Sonic and pals defeat Eggman while Trip defeats Fang. Once on the surface they drop Knuckles off and the Black Dragon is unsealed and with the Chaos Emeralds, Super Sonic defeats it with the heroes returning home with another victory while Trip remained on the Northstar Islands.

Modern Era

Sonic Rush Adventure

Sonic is found by Marine Sonic Rush Adventure
Sonic being found by Marine, from Sonic Rush Adventure.

In Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic and Tails were out investigating an unknown energy reaction in the Tornado, but got caught in a storm and sucked into a hurricane. Washing ashore on Southern Island, Sonic and Tails met Marine the Raccoon and they decided to explore the surrounding islands in this unknown territory. The next day, Sonic and Tails found Marine accidentally destroying her SS Marine that she was building. The duo then helped Marine build a new vessel, with Sonic providing the Materials, and the trio began exploring the surrounding islands.

On their journey, the group was attacked by several robotic enemies. Sonic also encountered Johnny, who became his rival in waterbike racing. When arriving at Coral Cave, Sonic met Captain Whisker and his crew, who were the ones behind the attacks. Suddenly, Sonic saw to his surprise Blaze the Cat attack Whisker. Though confused at Blaze's arrival, Sonic teamed up with her to fight the Ghost Kraken. After the fight, the pirates escaped with the Jeweled Scepter, an artifact hidden in Coral Cave which Blaze tried to protect. As Sonic wondered why Blaze was here and not in her own world, he and Tails realized they had been transported to earth in the Sol Dimension during the storm. After explaining their story, Sonic suggested to Blaze they worked together to get the scepter back which posed a threat to their worlds and she accepted it.

From there, Sonic and the group traveled the sea in their search for clues to the pirates' whereabouts. After having tracked and lost the pirates at Haunted Ship, freeing the Vikings on Blizzard Peaks from the pirates' captivity and uncovering the secrets of Sky Babylon, the group found the pirates’ hideout in some ancient ruins. Before heading there however, Sonic, Tails, and Blaze decided to make Marine stay behind as she could endanger the mission. While Sonic and Tails tried to be gentle about it, they silently agreed with Blaze when she told Marine she was a nuisance, making her run off crying.

At the pirates’ hideout, Sonic faced Whisker and Johnny alongside Blaze. Despite beating them, however, Whisker escaped and Sonic and his friends saw Marine arriving and going after the pirates, only to get caught by the Ghost Titan. Fortunately, Sonic came up with a plan to distract Whisker by letting Tails pretend the scepter was somewhere else while he and Blaze saved Marine. Sonic and Blaze then destroyed the Ghost Titan together and escaped, while the pirates went down with their ship. Seeing Marine had reclaimed the Jeweled Scepter, the group headed back to Southern Island.

After collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds, Sonic and Tails planned to return home, but learned that the Jeweled Scepter had been stolen again. In the wake of an earthquake, the thieves revealed themselves to be Dr. Eggman and Eggman Nega in the Egg Wizard, who were behind the pirates, so they could use the Jeweled Scepter's incredible power to build Eggmanland upon both worlds. As Sonic and the gang pursued the Eggmen to Deep Core, the villains tapped into the Power of the Stars with the scepter, but Sonic and Blaze used the Emeralds to become Super Sonic and Burning Blaze. As they were about to defeat the Egg Wizard, however, Eggman Nega tried to destroy them and the world, but Marine distracted them, allowing Sonic and Blaze to destroy the Egg Wizard.

Sonic shakes hands with Blaze once more, from Sonic Rush Adventure.

The next morning, Tails constructed a vessel for him and Sonic to return home in. Just before Sonic could leave, Blaze suggested that the Sol Emeralds and the Chaos Emeralds were responsible for their reunion, which Sonic remarked that they could never know for sure, before he shook hands with Blaze once more. As Sonic and Tails were taking off, Marine arrived in her SS Super-Marine to say goodbye. Sonic and Tails then promised Marine they would see each other again and headed back to their own world.

Sonic Rivals 2

In Sonic Rivals 2, Sonic arrived on an island to meet Tails who told Sonic that a group of Chao have gone missing and that he suspected Dr. Eggman, who was on the island, was behind it. As such, Sonic teamed up with Tails to find Eggman and get answers. No sooner, Sonic saw Knuckles with Rouge and teased Knuckles. Regardless, Knuckles asked if he had seen Dr. Eggman since the Master Emerald had been stolen. Unsurprised, Sonic insisted on finding Dr. Eggman first and the two competed to see who would find the doctor.

Sonic and the others eventually found Dr. Eggman, who really was Eggman Nega masquerading as Dr. Eggman (Sonic does not realize this throughout the game). Sonic demanded to know what he had done with the Chao, but Eggman Nega pretended to be innocent and attacked Sonic and the others in his Egg Liner. After the fight, Sonic and Tails followed Eggman Nega to Sunset Forest Zone. As they lost the doctor's trail, they found a page dropped by Eggman Nega mentioning a creature called the Ifrit. Soon after, Sonic ran into Silver, who was looking for Eggman Nega as well and challenged him to see who faced Eggman Nega first.

Sonic and Tails eventually caught up to Eggman Nega with Silver and Espio, but Eggman Nega attacked them in his Egg Crawler. After the fight, Sonic and Tails followed Eggman Nega to Neon Palace Zone discovering more dropped pages on the Ifrit. There, Sonic met Shadow and Metal Sonic. Suspicious at why Metal Sonic was involved, Sonic and Tails followed the pair, with Sonic following Shadow. After catching up with Shadow, Sonic began questioning him, but the two fought when Shadow refused to answer. After the fight, Sonic and Shadow found Eggman Nega who attacked in his Egg Dealer, but the group defeated him.

Afterwards, Sonic and Tails tracked Eggman Nega to Frontier Canyon Zone, where they found more dropped pages on the Ifrit and Sonic suspected he was involved in Eggman Nega's plans. They then met Knuckles and Rouge again, who needed Rings for their Emerald Detector and Sonic volunteered himself and Tails to find some. After Sonic had found Rings, however, Espio appeared and took them, but Sonic pursued him. Afterwards, Sonic found Eggman Nega again and fought his Egg Bull. Afterwards, the doctor revealed his plan to release the Ifrit from a portal within a haunted mansion and Sonic and Tails headed there to stop the Ifrit.

At the mansion, Sonic and Tails split up. While searching, Sonic met a shape-shifting ghost of himself and defeated it in battle. After reuniting with Tails, they found Eggman Nega with their ghost counterparts. After fighting Eggman Nega in his Egg Phantom, Tails found the missing Chao, which Eggman Nega had planned to feed to the Ifrit to make him invincible, and Sonic got Tails to bring them to safety.

The two eventually found the portal to the Ifrit's dimension, which was about to close and they headed inside to find Eggman Nega before it was too late. There, they faced the Ifrit himself, who took control of Tails, forcing Sonic to face both Tails and the Ifrit to stop the end of the world. Though Sonic was occasionally taken over by the Ifrit too, the two friends defeated the Ifrit, thus keeping him from leaving his world and escaped before the portal closed. With the Ifrit stopped, the world saved and the Chao rescued, Sonic and Tails headed to the Chao Garden to get some rest.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Arrivalsonic
Sonic and Shahra entering the world of the Arabian Nights, from Sonic and the Secret Rings.

In Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic fell asleep while reading the Arabian Nights and had gotten a cold. When he woke and tried to check his clock however, he found a ring, from which a djinn named Shahra emerged from. She told Sonic about how the mighty Erazor Djinn was destroying the world of the Arabian Nights, absorbing power of the Arabian Nights storybook and erasing its stories. If Erazor was not stopped, he would be able to enter the real world. With Sonic agreeing to help, Shahra handed Sonic her ring, which sealed their contract as master and genie. Following Shahra's instructions, Sonic rubbed the ring, making Shahra submit to his service so she could bring him into the world of the Arabian Nights. After wishing for a few handkerchiefs for his cold, Sonic decided to get serious and had Shahra take them into the world of the Arabian Nights. While traveling through Lost Prologue, Sonic and Shahra encountered the Erazor Djinn. When Shahra refused to gather the seven World Rings for him, Erazor shot a fiery flame at Shahra, but Sonic jumped in and took the blow. Revealing that this cursed flame would burn away Sonic's lifeforce until it killed him, Erazor told Sonic that he would remove the curse if he brought him the World Rings, before departing to claim the life of King Shahryar. To stop Erazor, Sonic and Shahra headed to King Shahryar's palace in Sand Oasis. There, they found Shahryar, whom Sonic initially mistook for Dr. Eggman. Soon after, Shahryar was kidnapped by Erazor. Sonic thus went to save him, saving Ali Baba from Erazor's minions along the way. During their meeting, Sonic mistook Ali Baba for Tails. After then defeating the Sand Scorpion summoned by Erazor, Sonic and Shahra found the Yellow Ring. Shahra then revealed to Sonic that whoever collects the seven World Rings will be able to open the portal between worlds at the cost of their own life. Sonic, however, assured Shahra, who felt guilty over bringing this upon Sonic, that he was in a pinch either way with Erazor's curse laid on him, and assured her that he would fix this quickly. Sonic later caught up to Shahryar and saved him despite his dislike of him.

Later, in Dinosaur Jungle, Sonic and Shahra found the Green Ring. Sonic then tried to wish his curse away with Shahra's aid, but Shahra did not have the power to do it. Telling her not to worry about it for now, Shahra and Sonic headed out. Arriving in Evil Foundry, Sonic and Shahra confronted Erazor as he summoned the Ifrit Golem to burn away the pages of the Arabian Nights. Unable to wound the Ifrit Golem, Sonic used Shahra's magic to induce Time Break and flee from the scene. Once safe, Sonic and Shahra sought aid from Ali Baba to defeat the Ifrit Golem. Ali Baba revealed that Sinbad the Sailor would probably know how to stop the Ifrit Golem. However, he was currently kidnapped and brought into the skies by the Rukh. Sonic thus had Shahra conjure up a flying carpet to take them to Levitated Ruin on. There, Sonic found a captured Sinbad, whom Sonic mistook for Knuckles. After Sonic and Shahra freed him and told him of their situation, Sinbad told them that they could defeat the Ifrit Golem by pouring water on it. Sonic mocked Sinbad's words of wisdom, sparking a brief fight between those two until Ali Baba broke it up and pointed out where they were going to get enough water to pull off that feat. Getting to that, Sinbad revealed that his Water Blue Ring could summon rain storms. However, it had been take by the pirates who kidnapped him. Sonic and Shahra thus set out to find the pirates, finding the Blue Ring along the way. Afterward, Shahra gave Sonic a strange orb to use as their last resort if all else failed to stop Erazor. Arriving in Pirate Storm, Sonic defeated Captain Bemoth, allowing him and Shahra to retrieve the Water Blue Ring. Sonic and Shahra then returned to Evil Foundry where Sonic used the Water Blue to summon a storm that weakened the Ifrit Golem enough for him to defeat it. Upon its defeat, however, the Ifrit Golem released a bomb set to explode. Sonic thus took the bomb out of the Evil Foundry and had it explode safely outside. As it detonated, the bomb also released the Red Ring, which Sonic and Shahra claimed. Afterward, Sonic was taken to King Solomon's domain, the Skeleton Dome, by Shahra in hopes of getting some explanations to the strange occurrences with djinns lately from the king himself. However, all they found was Solomon's head, the undead king having been disassembled by the 40 Thieves, whom Erazor had resurrected as evil djinns and sent to attack him. Offering to help Solomon, Sonic and Shahra eliminated the 40 Thieves and recovered Solomon's missing body parts. Along the way, Sonic and Shahra also found the White Ring. After then reassembling Solomon, the king told Sonic and Shahra about the reason for the djinns' madness and the effects of Erazor's actions. However, he also revealed that they could defeat Erazor by sealing him away in his Magic Lamp.

Darkspine Sonic 1
Sonic as Darkspine Sonic, from Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Taking the advice of Solomon, Sonic and Shahra went to Erazor's Night Palace and opened its gates using the White Ring. However, Sonic then felt himself losing strength as his curse began to take its toll. Despite everything though, he would not give up. He and Shahra soon after found the Purple Ring. Shahra then revealed Erazor's past to Sonic, telling him of how he was condemned to fulfill the wishes of a thousand people as punishment for his misdeeds, only to get a renewed hated for people when he was done. Soon after, Sonic found Erazor, who wanted the World Rings from Sonic. Engaging him in battle, Sonic defeated Erazor, who retreated into a sealed room. Recalling the prophecies about the opening of the door to other worlds, Sonic and Shahra used the seven World Rings to open the door into Erazor. Inside, Shahra was then told by Erazor to give the Worlds Rings to him, saying that she had been using Sonic to gather the World Rings for him. As Shahra complied, Sonic ordered her to do what she truly thought was right, causing Shahra to snap mentally. Taking the World Rings, Erazor tried to sacrifice Sonic to unlock the power of the World Rings. However, Shahra took the blow intended for Sonic and perished in his arms, apologizing to Sonic with her last strength. Due to Shahra's interference though, the control of the World Rings remained incomplete. As such, when Erazor harnessed the World Rings, he turned into the monstrous Alf Layla wa-Layla, intend to remake the world of the Arabian Nights in his twisted image. Sonic, however, managed to absorb the Red, Green, and Purple World Rings that ejected from Erazor, causing him to transform into Darkspine Sonic. With this power, Sonic defeated Alf Layla wa-Layla, who reverted back to normal. As Erazor recovered though, Sonic unveiled his Magic Lamp, which had original been the orb Shahra gave him, only to turn back to a lamp when Shahra died. Using the lamp, Sonic made Erazor grant him three wishes: bring Shahra back to life, restore the Arabian Nights to the way they were, and seal himself up in his lamp for the rest of time. Powerless against his lamp, Erazor fulfilled all of Sonic's wishes, before returning to his lamp forever. Afterward, Sonic saw Shahra cry over Erazor's fate, so he had her bring forth a mountain of handkerchiefs which she could use to cry for as much as she needed.

After these events, Sonic and Shahra threw the Magic Lamp into the depths of the Evil Foundry. Sonic then set out on several new adventures with Ali Baba and Sinbad before finally finding a way to return home to his world, although not before saying goodbye to Shahra saying he will never forget her.

Sonic Riders series

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Sonic saved by a stone
Sonic using the Ark of the Cosmos to manipulate gravity, from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity.

In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, a few months after the EX World Grand Prix, Sonic was driving with Tails and Knuckles through Monopole, fumbling thoughtfully with a mysterious meteorite Tails had found the other night.[24] On their way to Megalo Station, they were attacked by SCR-HD and some SCR-GPs, a part of a currently global robot rampage who were after the meteorite. In the insuring chase, the group fell out from a 300-story high building, but Sonic was saved by the meteorite by using it to manipulate gravity.

As Sonic and his friends tried to hide from the robots, they met Amy who revealed she was being chased by the robots because she had a meteorite similar to Sonic's. Sonic then decided to head to the robots' creator, MeteorTech, to get some answers. There, Sonic and the gang were discovered by security, but then the Babylon Rogues arrived and Jet the Hawk repelled the security robots with another meteorite. As Jet demanded the meteorites, called the Arks of the Cosmos, and said he wanted to challenge Sonic to a race, Sonic was eager to accept it, but decided to postpone it when more robots showed up.

As Sonic raced Jet to the control room, Sonic and the others were surprised to find Dr. Eggman, who was the owner of MeteorTech, and Sonic suspected he was behind the robot rampage. While Eggman claimed to have no part in it, Sonic got suspicious when Eggman recognized his Ark of the Cosmos. After forcing him, Eggman revealed that MeteorTech's mother computer was powered by one of the Arks of the Cosmos and that the robot's leader, SCR-HD, which also had an Ark of the Cosmos, sought them out for reasons unknown. The group then noticed that Amy was gone, and saw on the computer screen that she was being chased by SCR-HD and Storm, and Sonic left with his friends to save her.

When they found Amy, Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails heard from Amy that SCR-HD had suddenly blown up and that Storm had taken its Ark of the Cosmos. However, Tails deduced that they had to remove the Ark of the Cosmos in MeteoTech’s mother computer to stop the robots. As they tried to figure where the mother computer could be, Amy remembered Storm mentioning Gigan Rocks, which held information about the Ark of the Cosmos, so Sonic and the others went there to find clues.

At Gigan Rocks, the group learned from the ruins that the Arks of the Cosmos were power units for Babylon Garden. The group then saw the Babylon Rogues chase after Eggman above them, and learned from both that and the ruins the location of MeteoTech’s mother computer. When Sonic and his friends got to this location, they found the Crimson Tower and the Babylon Rogues, who told them Eggman had stolen their Arks of the Cosmos. As they conclude that Eggman planned to use them to control all the world's robots for world domination, Sonic almost headed out, when Jet demanded a race for the Arks of the Cosmos and title of the fastest in the universe, which Sonic accepted.

SRZG-cs
Sonic faces the fury of a black hole, from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity.

The race eventually came to a draw, as both Sonic and Jet stopped Eggman at the same time and stopped the robot rampage. After Babylon Garden appeared due to all Arks of the Cosmos being present, Sonic gave his Arks of the Cosmos to Jet and took his leave, content with settling the score with Jet at the next World Grand Prix. However, SCR-HD then appeared and took all five Arks of the Cosmos to Babylon Garden, which transformed it into Astral Babylon and formed a black hole that threatened to consume the planet. Sonic then headed to Astral Babylon with his team and the Babylon Rogues to disconnect the ship's engine and stop the black hole where they faced and defeated Master Core: ABIS, thus saving the world.

Later, Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy returned to Monopole, where they learned from Tails of how the Arks of the Cosmos made the robots run amok. No sooner, Sonic was challenged by Jet to a new race, which Sonic accepted, and raced Jet throughout the city.

Sonic Free Riders
Sonic and Jet (Sonic Free Riders Opening)
Sonic competing against Jet, from Sonic Free Riders.

In Sonic Free Riders, Sonic and the rest of Team Sonic signed up to compete in the second World Grand Prix hosted by Dr. Eggman for the sake of the competition rather than the prizes. As they were interviewed by Omochao, Sonic was ready to start racing, though he suspected that Eggman was up to something.

In their first race, Team Heroes faced Team Rose, who Sonic was openly disappointed about facing. During the challenges, Sonic was berated by Amy for not going easy, but Sonic insisted on competing seriously. Once Team Heroes had beaten Team Rose, Amy demanded a date with Sonic to make it up for this, but Sonic wondered why he owed her a date for winning.

For their next race, Sonic and Team Heroes went up against Team Dark. During the race, Knuckles suspected Team Dark's new member, E-10000B, of foul play, but Sonic thought that he was just imaging it.

Sonic and the team eventually beat Team Dark and advanced to the finals, where they met Team Babylon, though Sonic was not surprised about facing Jet in the finals. In the final face-off, Sonic and his team beat Team Babylon, seemingly securing their victory. However, when he heard Jet had mechanical troubles during the race, Sonic called for a rematch, intending to have a fair race. Sonic thus faced Jet in a one-on-one race and defeated him. As Team Heroes was commended as champions, Sonic told the viewers how incredible he felt before noticing Team Babylon had left. When Omochao tracked Team Babylon down, Sonic thanked Jet for the race and told him that he looked forward to their future rematch.

As the tournament progressed, Team Heroes had their own fair share of losses, but Sonic continuously displayed good sportsmanship. At the end of the tournament, Sonic and the other teams came to the awards ceremony to collect their prizes, but Eggman made them have a final race against his "ultimate Gear-Jockey robot," which made Sonic suspicious. After the race, Eggman revealed that he used the World Grand Prix to gather the riders' racing data with his E-10000 robots to create the ultimate Extreme Gear which he could use for his own agenda, but Sonic thought his plan was lame. In retaliation, Eggman challenged Sonic and the others to a race, but lost. Sonic then noticed E-10000B was acting funny before seeing Metal Sonic emerging from it and heard that Metal Sonic had stolen Eggman's data and replaced it with fake data. Sonic then noticed that Metal Sonic was challenging him to a race and despite being told that Metal Sonic could not be beaten, Sonic gladly accepted the challenge.

Eventually, Sonic was victorious in the race and forced Metal Sonic to run away. As Eggman cursed being tricked, Sonic mocked Eggman for ruining his own plan. As the World Grand Prix drew to a close and the other teams began to leave, Sonic insisted that they all had a great time at the World Grand Prix nonetheless.

Sonic Unleashed

Sonic going Werehog Sonic Unleashed
Sonic becoming Sonic the Werehog, from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed.

In both the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version and the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed, after an untold series of adventures for Sonic, he arrived at Dr. Eggman's massive space fleet where he faced a battalion of Egg Fighters and Eggman in a powerful mech. During the battle, Sonic became Super Sonic and destroyed Eggman's mech and his fleet. When he corned Eggman on a space station. However, Sonic was caught in an energy field trap set by Eggman, where the Chaos Emeralds were painfully ripped from him, returning him to normal. With the Emeralds' power, Eggman fired an energy blast that broke the earth apart and awoke an ancient creature called Dark Gaia to harness his power. In the process, a part of Dark Gaia's energy infected Sonic and turned him into a "Werehog." Sonic was then ejected from the station with the powerless Chaos Emeralds.

Moments before impacting the earth, Sonic's fall was temporarily broken by a green light. After recovering, he met an imp-like creature who noticed he had developed retrograde amnesia. Believing that he caused it by falling on the creature, Sonic promised to help recover his memories. Dawn then broke and Sonic suddenly returned to normal. The duo soon arrived at Apotos where Sonic named his new friend Chip after an ice cream they got from a local vendor. After a day's fruitless search for someone who knew Chip, Sonic realized the nature of his Werehog form when he assumed it again at night. They soon after met Tails when Sonic saved him from Dark Gaia's Minions. After hearing their story, Tails took Sonic and Chip to Professor Pickle, who knew something about the global crisis, in Spagonia with the Tornado-1. When they arrived, however, they learned Eggman had kidnapped the professor.

Sonic, Tails, and Chip tracked Pickle to Mazuri where they freed him from Eggman's base and reclaimed the stolen Gaia Manuscripts. Pickle told them that Dark Gaia was behind the planet's shattering, but since he was not fully reborn, they could restore the planet and the Chaos Emeralds by placing the drained Emeralds in the Gaia Temples across the world.

Sonic and Chip soon after returned to Mazuri, where they saved the villagers from Eggman and drove him off before locating a Gaia Temple. There, with Chip's ability to activate the temple, Sonic could restore the Emerald and a continent. When returning to Spagonia at night, Sonic met Amy, but when Amy did not recognize him as a Werehog, Sonic became saddened about his different appearance, not helped by Chip pointing out what probably made Amy not recognize him. He later found Amy caught in a group of Spagonia residents possessed by Dark Gaia, but with Chip's help, Sonic exorcised them and saved Amy. However, he left before Amy could see him, but eventually came clean with her about what happened to him and his Werehog form.

Sonic and Chip continued their adventure, healing the planet one piece at a time. As the two of them restored the sixth continent however, Sonic saw Chip regaining his memories inside the sixth temple. Chip revealed that his real name was Light Gaia and that he had been fighting Dark Gaia in a continuous cycle of destruction and restoration of the planet since the dawn of time. Sonic thought that Chip was the reason he remained himself as a Werehog instead of behaving differently like the other people infected by Dark Gaia's influence, but Chip revealed that it was Sonic's own strong heart that kept his darkness at bay. Chip then tried to leave to stop Dark Gaia on his own, but Sonic convinced him to let him help him.

Arriving in Eggmanland, the duo activated the last temple. As the last continent returned, Sonic the Werehog and Chip were attacked by Eggman in his Egg Dragoon. After Sonic beat Eggman at the planet's core, Dark Gaia himself appeared and knocked Eggman away. As they shuffled, Dark Gaia drew his last fragment out of Sonic to complete himself, curing Sonic of his Werehog condition, but also weakening him. Fortunately, Sonic was saved when Chip called the Gaia Temples to him and formed the Gaia Colossus and together they fought Dark Gaia. However, Dark Gaia soon matured and became Perfect Dark Gaia and began casting the world into darkness. Sonic, however, harnessed the Chaos Emeralds and became Super Sonic. Together with Chip, they defeated and sealed Dark Gaia, although Super Sonic fell unconscious in his normal state due to exhaustion. He was then returned to the surface by Chip, who got sealed inside the planet and returned to dormancy. Back on the surface, Sonic found Chip's necklace, which he kept as a bracelet. As he heard Chip's final goodbye, Sonic paid his respects to his friend and left for new adventures with Tails.

Sonic and the Black Knight

Chili Dog and the Black Knight
Sonic in the world of Camelot, from Sonic and the Black Knight.

In Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic was having chili dogs while waiting for Amy, having somehow been talked into going on a date with her. Suddenly though, he was called into the world of Camelot by Merlina the Wizard. Upon his arrival, Sonic met Merlina and quickly dispatched the Knights of the Underworld who were following her. Sonic then tried to take on Arthur, but he was restrained by Merlina, who teleported them away. Soon after, Sonic was filled in on the situation by Merlina, who explained that her kingdom was being tormented by Arthur, who was once a wise and just king until he was bewitched by the scabbard of Excalibur's immortality-bestowing magic and became the tyrannical Black Knight. Learning that Arthur was also impossible to defeat for as long as he wielded the scabbard, Sonic was directed to Misty Lake to recover a sacred sword, although not before getting a gauntlet from Merlina as a gift. At the lake, Sonic found Caliburn and pulled it out of the rock. However, Sonic then discovered Caliburn was alive and could talk, and that he did not think highly of Sonic. Regardless, Sonic wielded Caliburn against Arthur when when the king came to attack him. Unable to overcome the immortal Arthur, Sonic saw him take his leave when he deemed him not worth slaying. As Sonic and Caliburn argued, Merlina told them to seek out Nimue, the scabbard of Excalibur's original owner, who would know of a way to defeat Arthur. Along the way however, Sonic made a stop at the Blacksmith, who Sonic initially mistook for Tails, in Camelot Castle to sharpen Caliburn's blunt blade.

On his way to Nimue, Sonic was challenged by Sir Lancelot, whom Sonic mistook for Shadow. Thanks to Lancelot's carelessness, Sonic beat him and claimed his sword, Arondight. As Caliburn lectured Sonic, the two arrived at the lake. There, Sonic mistook Nimue for Amy and freaked out, but Caliburn had him calm down and show proper behavior towards Nimue. While having tea, Nimue told Sonic that she would only reveal the scabbard's secrets if he passed a test of true knighthood, and gave him three tasks to finish within three days: free the innocent from King Arthur's dungeons, give aid to those in need, and defeat the Knights of the Underworld. While working on his tasks however, Sonic encountered a child who needed someone to save her family from a dragon. Despite Caliburn telling him that he would never complete Nimue's tasks in time if he helped the child out, Sonic decided to do it anyway. On the way to Dragon's Lair however, Sonic met Sir Gawain, whom he told looked like a "certain knucklehead" he knew. Despite attempting to explain himself, Gawain concluded that Sonic was only after the dragon's treasure and attacked him. After defeating Gawain, Sonic stopped him from killing himself by confiscating Galatine. Gawain insisted that he deserved death as he, as a knight, had failed his king, but Sonic asked him if there was more to being a knight than serving a king before taking his leave.

After saving the townspeople, though at the cost of running out of time for their tasks, Sonic and Caliburn returned to the child. There, the child revealed herself to be Nimue in disguise and told Sonic that he had proven himself a true knight. Back at the lake, Sonic was told by Nimue that to blunt the power of the scabbard of Excalibur, he had to collect all the sacred swords from the Knights of the Round Table. Having already gotten two of them, Sonic and Caliburn left to get the last one from Sir Percival. Finding her in Molten Mine, Sonic told Percival upon her request his name and that his only master was the wind. Dubbed the "Knight of the Wind" by Percival, the two clashed, with Sonic emerging triumphant. However, the battle had forced Percival to the edge of a lava lake, which she fell towards when she lost her footing. However, Sonic caught Percival and broke their fall by digging Caliburn into the cliff. This act finally earned him Caliburn's respect and was titled "Sir Sonic, Knight of the Wind".

After getting Percival's Laevatein, Sonic met with Merlina, who told him he could find Arthur on the island of Avalon. Traveling there, Sonic found and defeated Arthur in battle. When Arthur then tried using the scabbard of Excalibur, Sonic nullified its magic with the sacred swords. Taking advantage of this opening, Sonic struck down Arthur, who vanished into a puff of smoke, to Sonic's puzzlement and concern. With the scabbard in hand, Sonic found Merlina, cornered by the Knights of the Round Table, in Camelot Castle. As Merlina revealed that Arthur was never truly real, she took the scabbard of Excalibur from Sonic and announced that she would use it to make her kingdom eternal. As Merlina's magic tore the castle apart, Sonic and the Knights of the Round Table escaped to the outskirts where they saw the forces of the Underworld slowly consume the kingdom. Seeing the Knights of the Round Table unable to act, Sonic reminded them that being a knight meant more than serving a king. Nimue then appeared and backed Sonic up by presenting a plan to contain Merlina's influence by inserting the sacred swords into barrier stones around the kingdom and form a barrier around Merlina's position. After Sonic had activated the barrier stone in Dragon's Lair, he and Caliburn slipped into the Dark Hollow to deal with Merlina.

When Sonic found Merlina, now the Dark Queen, Merlina revealed to Sonic the grim fate that awaited the kingdom and that she sought to prevent it by making a perfect kingdom that will never end with the scabbard's power. Sonic, however, turned a deaf ear to Merlina's words, insisting there was no good in a world like that, and tried to attack her. However, Sonic only received a massive beating from Merlina and got Caliburn cut in half. Despite this, Sonic refused to give up, and his determination awoke the long-lost light of the sacred sword. The Knights of the Round Table then sent their sacred swords to Sonic, their power transforming him and Caliburn into Excalibur Sonic and Excalibur. With this power, Sonic and Caliburn defeated Merlina. In the aftermath, Sonic convinced Merlina that having an end to the world was necessary and just live her life to the fullest in the time she had. After Sonic then thanked the Knights of the Round Table for their aid, the group thought about disbanding without a king to serve. Caliburn, however, revealed that Sonic was the true King Arthur, much to Sonic's surprise as the Knights of the Round Table bowed before him. Despite this revelation though, Sonic returned home and told his big adventure to Amy. However, Amy thought it was just an excuse for forgetting their date, prompting Sonic to run away from Amy as she pulled out her Piko Piko Hammer to pursue him.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I
Sonic The Hedgehog 4 - Game Shot - (1)
Sonic, from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, which takes place years after the Angel Island incident, Sonic had just managed to finally destroy the Death Egg. With this whole ordeal over, Sonic decided to take a much-deserved break from his adventures. Sonic then parted with Tails and Knuckles for the time being and ventured out on his own to explore new parts of the world. Sonic's break was cut short, however, when Dr. Eggman, having survived their last encounter, returned to defeat Sonic with a new and improved army of Badniks. Sonic then began chasing and fighting Dr. Eggman while collecting Chaos Emeralds through the various Zones.

At the end of his journey, Sonic gave a final chase to Dr. Eggman, but Eggman retreated to the E.G.G. Station Zone, a base in space. Sonic, however, jumped onto a rising rocket and pursued the doctor. Onboard the E.G.G. Station, Sonic faced all of the past battle machines constructed by Eggman in past zones before confronting the mad scientist in a rebuilt Death Egg Robot. Despite the mech's improvements, however, Sonic defeated it and escaped the base as it began exploding, before landing in Splash Hill Zone where his adventure ended for the time being.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, after having defeated Dr. Eggman onboard the E.G.G. Station Zone, Sonic spent the next few months relaxing from his adventures. When Sonic heard that Dr. Eggman had returned and was up to no good on the neighboring continent, however, he prepared to stop Eggman and sought out Tails. The two of them then headed out together in the Tornado to investigate Eggman's newest scheme.[25]

Arriving in Sylvania Castle Zone, Sonic and Tails began investigating. They eventually found Eggman and learned the doctor planned to turn Little Planet, which had made its annual return, into a power source for his Death Egg mk.II. As such, Sonic and Tails began chasing the doctor to stop him. Along the way, they were attacked by Metal Sonic, who had returned more powerful than ever to settle the score with Sonic under the alliance of Eggman, but Sonic and Tails defeated him in each encounter.

When they got to the Sky Fortress Zone, Sonic and Tails used an escape pod to follow Eggman and Metal Sonic to the Death Egg mk.II as the flying fortress was exploding around them. Onboard, they briefly fought Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic until the villains escaped. Soon after, Sonic was challenged to a rematch by Metal Sonic, but he and Tails beat him again. Sonic and Tails went on and faced Dr. Eggman and his Egg Heart and defeated him, making the Death Egg mk.II crash. The two of them then used some escape pods to return home while watching the Death Egg mk.II shut down and be pulled away by Little Planet's orbit.

Sonic Colors

Sonic Colours Comics Egg Planet Park ad
Sonic and Tails watching Dr. Eggman promote his park on TV, from Egg Planet Park.

In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, Sonic was watching TV with Tails when they came across an advertisement of Dr. Eggman promoting an interstellar amusement park known as "Egg Planet Park" made of pristine planets that would open the next day. In it, the doctor claimed that he had turned over a new leaf and built said park as an apology to the public, and specially Sonic himself, for his past endeavors. Believing that there was something fishy going on, the hedgehog went with his friend to his nemesis' amusement park to see what was going on and have some fun along the way.[26] He and Tails ultimately managed to sneak aboard the space elevator leading to the park with some ease, mostly because Eggman or at least his minions managed to leave the keys inside the elevator.

Arriving at Egg Planet Park with Tails, Sonic was impressed by the beautiful views of space there as he raced through the Tropical Resort. Eventually, however, he saw Orbot and Cubot, the doctor's lackeys, attempting to catch two little aliens, one white and the other cyan. After saving those from the robots' grasp, the hedgehog incidentally absorbed the cyan creature's energy and turned into a Cyan Laser. In the aftermath, he reunited with the fox, who was building a translator in his Miles Electric to understand the aliens' language. Meanwhile, Sonic left once again to find Eggman himself counting some of these kidnapped aliens. As the doctor left, the hero faced his Rotatatron and defeated it, incidentally sending one of its parts to a massive machine nearby. Next, he found Tails, who had finished his translator. With it, the duo learned that the creatures were called "Wisps" and that Eggman was after them to harvest their Hyper-go-on energy. Teaming up with the White Wisp he had saved, who was named Yacker, Sonic set out to explore the park and save the Wisps with the fox.

While in one of Egg Planet Park's attractions, Sonic found a tractor beam generator which he subsequently destroyed. As he was exploring the next planet, he was ambushed by Eggman, who attempted to shoot him with a Mind Control Ray to enslave him. He was saved at the last second by Tails, who ended up mind-controlled. Fortunately, the effect was short-lived, forcing the doctor to retreat and deploy the local giant robot at them, which the hedgehog destroyed. Knowing now that his nemesis was preparing a mind-control weapon with the Wisps' Hyper-go-on, Sonic continued his adventure, eventually also discovering that the scientist was using the tractor beam generators to keep the aliens' planets anchored to his park. As such, he set out to destroy the remaining three generators, thinking this would stop Eggman's plans.

Traveling across Eggman's Egg Planet Park, Sonic successfully located and destroyed all the generators while at the same time freeing the captive Wisps. When he was exploring the Asteroid Coaster, however, he and Tails discovered, much to their horror, a massive facility of the doctor's that was sucking out the Wisps' energy, transforming them into Nega-Wisps, before the fox noticed that they had not seen Yacker in a while. After all of the planets were saved, the duo returned to the Tropical Resort, where they started celebrating with the freed Wisps. However, when Eggman attempted to use the mind-control cannon on the Earth, it backfired, creating a Hyper-go-on void that began destroying the entire park. As it turned out, it was because of the Rotatatron's piece that had been unintentionally struck in the cannon by the hedgehog. The heroes escaped to the doctor's space elevator to get back home. There, however, their nemesis showed up in the Nega-Wisp Armor to crush the hedgehog once and for all. Wanting Tails to be safe, Sonic pushed him into the elevator and launched him back home, while he fought the scientist alone.

Though Sonic managed to defeat Eggman, he was still caught in the Hyper-go-on void. Fortunately, he was saved by the Wisps, who got him back to the earth where he reunited with Tails. The two then saw the Wisps stop the void as Yacker appeared and bid the heroes farewell. The hedgehog said goodbye to Yacker and watched the Wisps leave with their planets.

Sonic X Shadow Generations

Sonic Generations
Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic Sonic Generations
Modern and Classic Sonic meeting, from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations.

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, in the time period shortly after the Angel Island incident before the Chaos incident, Sonic was running through Green Hill when he witnessed the arrival of the Time Eater, who sent him and Tails to White Space.

In the present, some time after the Wisp incident, Sonic arrived to see that his friends were holding a surprise birthday party for him which he delightedly joined. During the party however, a mysterious foe called the Time Eater appeared and sucked Sonic's friends into different periods of the past. The hedgehog, unable to defeat him, was knocked out during the encounter and later awoke in White Space. After passing through Green Hill, he was able to restore Tails and the area from a colorless frozen state. Sonic then decided to save his friends caught in White Space with the same procedure, unaware that the past version of himself was doing the same thing. When the Sonics passed through a Boss Gate, however, they came across each other, where Classic Sonic went ahead and fought Dr. Eggman when the doctor appeared. Appearing onboard the Death Egg, thus Sonic defeated the doctor and his Death Egg Robot, only to witness the villain getting kidnapped by the Time Eater. After that, the Sonics discovered with the help of Modern and Classic Tails that they were travelling through time and space.

Teaming up to stop the Time Eater, the Sonics progressed through White Space, restoring the frozen areas and their friends. Along the way, they learned from the Tailses that the Time Eater's actions ripped space apart, that their speed was the key to restoring space and time and finally, the Chaos Emeralds were the Time Eater's weakness, which they set their sights on collecting. When Modern Sonic later defeated Dr. Eggman in his Egg Dragoon, he and his friends witnessed the doctor getting caught the Time Eater again, much to their confusion.

The Sonics eventually obtained all the Chaos Emeralds and freed their friends before facing the Time Eater in his own domain. There, Dr. Eggman and his past counterpart, Classic Eggman, revealed themselves as the ones behind the whole skirmish in an attempt to erase the hedgehogs from history so that the doctors would be victorious in the present. The two Sonics squared off against the Time Eater, but got knocked out. While passed out, however, the Sonics got support from all of their friends, allowing the Chaos Emeralds to activate and transform them both into Super Sonics. Together, they defeated the Time Eater and stopped the doctors' plan. As a result, time was restored and the Sonics and their friends returned back to the present where Modern Sonic's birthday party left off. During the party, Modern Sonic thanked his younger counterpart for his help before saying goodbye to him and promising him a great future when Classic Sonic and Classic Tails returned to the past through a Time Hole left behind by the Time Eater.

Shadow Generations

Sometime later during his adventure in White Space. Sonic runs by the City Escape entrance and sees Shadow In the distance and asks for his Chaos Emerald. Shadow bluntly refuses, saying that Sonic can have it after he is done with it. A Time Hole to the ARK appears, and the two hedgehogs jump through to do battle. During the fight, Shadow is tempted to use his Doom Powers but stops himself, and soon Sonic defeats him with a Spin Attack and leaves with the Emerald, which was revealed to be the Fake Emerald.[27]

Sonic Lost World

SLW Opening Drop the Critters!
Sonic trying to save the day, from the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World.

In the Wii U version and PC version of Sonic Lost World, Sonic and Tails were chasing Dr. Eggman, Orbot and Cubot in the Tornado to free some Animals they had captured. As the duo went after the captured animals in a Capsule Eggman dropped from the sky, the Tornado was damaged by Eggman. Falling from the sky, Sonic and Tails came across the Lost Hex. There, Sonic found the lost capsule and reported back to Amy and Knuckles. Soon after, Sonic found Eggman with the Deadly Six, a group of Zeti Eggman controlled. While Eggman left Zazz to finish him, Sonic defeated Zazz and reunited with Tails. The duo then left to find Eggman.

Mistake SLW

After Sonic met and fought Zomom, he and Tails found Eggman scolding the Deadly Six. Despite Tails' warnings, Sonic knocked away the conch Eggman used to control the Zeti. However, this allowed the Deadly Six to rebel against Eggman by taking control of his Badniks and using them to attack everyone. When Tails got injured, Sonic escaped with Eggman, Orbot, and Cubot to bring Tails to safety.

After escaping, Sonic and Tails parted with Eggman and his lackeys to deal with the Zeti. Meanwhile, they were contacted by Amy, who informed them that something was draining the world of life. After Sonic had an encounter with Master Zik, he and Tails met Eggman again, who revealed the Deadly Six were using his Extractor to destroy the Earth. Reluctantly, Sonic teamed up with Eggman to bring the doctor through the Zeti and have him shut the Extractor down properly.

On their way, Sonic realized that Tails was mad at him for entrusting Eggman rather than him to stop the Extractor. After Sonic fought off Zeena, his group were briefly contacted by Zavok, who stated the futility of their actions. Sonic would later argue with Eggman on how to beat the Zeti when Tails got attacked by Cubot when he let him on a Crabmeat. However, Eggman saved him. Though perplexed by Eggman's behavior, Sonic scolded Tails. Sonic would later try to open a capsule, but Tails stopped him, having discovered it was a trap from the Deadly Six, though Tails was caught and taken away in the process. Coming across Zor, Sonic demanded him to return Tails. Instead, Zor fled, leaving Sonic to confront him in battle.

Alone SLW

Sonic later came across Zavok who revealed his plans to turn Tails into a robot. As Sonic chased after Zavok and fought him, Sonic lost contact with Amy on the Miles Electric as her life dwindled away. Finally close to the Extractor, Sonic and Eggman were attacked by Zazz and Zomom, pushing them into a lava pit. Sonic, however, was saved by Eggman, though Eggman would fall into the lava pit. Continuing on alone, Sonic beat Zazz, Zomom and Master Zik for good, though he was disheartened over having seemingly lost his friends. Confronted by Zavok, Zeena and Zor, Sonic was shocked to see Tails had seemingly become a robot. However, when Tails was ordered to kill him, Tails revealed he was just fine and attacked the Zeti. His resolve restored, Sonic beat Zeena, Zor, and Zavok for good.

With the Zeti gone, Sonic and Tails reached the Extractor only to see it was turned off. Eggman then showed up in a new mech, having faked his death earlier so he could charge his mech while Sonic fought the Deadly Six and now planned to conquer the remains of the world. Beating Eggman, Sonic apologized to Tails for doubting him as he returned the planet's energy, mending their friendship. As Eggman tried to escape, Sonic revealed he removed his jet pack's exhaust pipe, making Eggman fall down to earth. Returning to Knuckles and Amy with Tails, Sonic decided to take a nap to rest from his adventure.

Sonic Forces

SFSTORY6
Modern Sonic after being defeated by Infinite, from Sonic Forces.

In Sonic Forces, Sonic got a distress signal from Tails, citing that Eggman was attacking the City. After traveling through Green Hill, Sonic arrived in the nick of time to save Tails and some civilians from a squad of Egg Pawns that were about to shoot them. However, this time, Eggman was anticipating Sonic's arrival, and proceeded to unveil Shadow, Zavok, Chaos, and Metal Sonic, along with a foe named Infinite, Eggman's new right-hand man. Sonic, although surprised by the group's presence, nonetheless attempted to fight Infinite, only to get pummeled into defeat by him and his allies. Afterwards, Sonic got captured by Infinite and brought to the rebuilt Death Egg, where Eggman planned to banish him into space after having the hedgehog see his completed Eggman Empire. With Sonic out of sight, everyone believed him to be dead, and lost hope of a swift defeat of Eggman's forces.

Over the next six months, Sonic remained imprisoned onboard the Death Egg.[note 1] In the meantime, the Eggman Empire conquered over 99% of the world, with its only opposition being the Resistance, led by Sonic's friends, with Knuckles as their commander.

After the Resistance learned that Sonic was alive, Eggman was forced to push the hedgehog's execution ahead of schedule via Zavok. However, as Zavok was about to get him, a power surge caused by the Resistance after infiltrating the Death Egg allowed Sonic to escape his restraints and defeat Zavok, who vanished upon his defeat. Having no time to ponder about what happened though, Sonic searched for a way off the Death Egg. Eventually, Sonic found the Avatar, a rookie Resistance member who had come to free him, and saved them from some Egg Pawns. Joining up with the Avatar, the two of them fled back to their world in an Eggman Fleet space shuttle. Back home, Sonic was welcomed back by Knuckles, who, out of necessity, sent him and the Avatar to take down the Arsenal Pyramid, Eggman's main munitions factory that was situated in Green Hill. During their mission, Sonic quickly bonded with the Avatar.

ClassicSonicMeetsChaos
Classic Sonic emerges from the warp to face a Chaos Phantom Copy, from Sonic Forces.

Meanwhile, Classic Sonic appeared from a warp the Phantom Ruby took him through following a previous incident. Upon his arrival, this Sonic saved Tails by dispatching a Chaos Phantom Copy when it attacked the fox cub in the City. Getting reacquainted with the fox, Sonic confirmed his theory about how he got here, learning in the process that this world's Eggman had obtained the Phantom Ruby and used it to conquer the world. With Tails believing that Sonic had arrived for the purpose of saving the world, the two of them set out to end the war between the Eggman Empire and the Resistance.

Setting their sights on defeating Eggman and learn the secrets of the Phantom Ruby in order to get Classic Sonic home, Tails tracked the doctor to Green Hill with the younger hedgehog. There, they eavesdropped on a conversation between Eggman and Infinite, from which they learned that Infinite had harnessed a Phantom Ruby prototype, that Modern Sonic was still alive, and that Eggman was preparing a plan that would wipe out the Resistance. After Infinite took his leave, Sonic made his move and defeated Dr. Eggman when he tried to leave. After his Egg Mobile and Egg Dragoon were defeated by Sonic though, the doctor made his escape, although not before warning Sonic and Tails that his endgame would be ready in three days.

Upon returning to HQ, Modern Sonic learned that Infinite was on the move in Mystic Jungle, and that Silver was fighting him. He, eager for a rematch and some payback against Infinite, rushed over to the site of the battle, where he saved Silver just before Infinite could kill him. Making it clear to Infinite that he was not afraid of him despite of what he might think, Sonic tried to make him tell him the source of his strange power in his usual cocky manner. Instead, Infinite proceeded to fight Sonic. Although Sonic managed to hold his own compared to before when he first faced Infinite in the City, he ultimately still lost to Infinite, who let him live due to viewing him as not being worth killing. After that, Sonic spent some time healing from his fight, leaving the Avatar to handle the next few missions. Eventually, the Avatar returned with Tails and Classic Sonic, and Sonic had a warm reunion with Tails. Although Tails brought the bad news that Eggman would have a plan for wiping out the Resistance ready in three days, Sonic was sure that they could stop it. Sonic soon after went to the City after learning that Shadow was leading Eggman troops into the City, including Death Egg Robots, with Sonic hoping to learn why Shadow went rogue. Upon confronting him, however, he was surprised to see Shadow vanish after he got attacked by another Shadow, the second one being the authentic Ultimate Life Form. He then learned from the real Shadow that the one who vanished was a fake Shadow, one of several Phantom Copies made by Infinite's powers over virtual reality, and that Eggman's familiar henchmen were also Phantom Copies. Although this meant that Eggman had an unlimited army of clones with powers equal to their templates at his disposal, Sonic was still certain there was a way to win, despite the odds.

SFSTORY43
Sonic and the Avatar fist bumping upon completing their mission, from Sonic Forces.

After Infinite foiled Operation Big Wave, Sonic and the Resistance found it necessary to figure out Infinite's weakness, prompting Tails and Classic Sonic to go on a recon mission. Meanwhile, Sonic and the Avatar got sent to the City to stop a Metal Sonic Phantom Copy assaulting the Red Gate Bridge. After clearing out a mass-produced Death Egg Robot that ambushed them, the duo found the Phantom Copy and took it out. Afterward, Sonic thanked the Avatar for their help with a fist bump. Returning to HQ, Sonic learned that Tails had discovered the secret to Infinite's power: the Phantom Ruby prototype, a gem with power over virtual reality that Infinite has been fused with. Because this gem required the Death Egg to supply it with the power needed for it to work, Sonic and the Resistance set up a plan to destroy the Death Egg. As a part of the plan, Sonic invaded Network Terminal in the Chemical Plant while the Avatar distracted Eggman's forces at Guardian Rock in Green Hill, and shut down the Death Egg's defenses from there. This allowed Classic Sonic to invade the Death Egg and destroy it.

With the Phantom Ruby seemingly out of commission, Sonic and the Resistance attacked Metropolis in an attempt to capture Eggman and end the war. When Sonic and Tails found Eggman with Orbot and Cubot however, the doctor called in Infinite, who still had his powers thanks to a backup power source underneath the Eggman Empire Fortress. On Eggman's order, Infinite opened a portal into Null Space, a close-up space designed to trap Sonic inside it forever. In the end, Sonic got sucked into null space, along with the Avatar when they tried to rescue him. However, the two were able to escape from null space using the Double Boost and rejoin the fight in Metropolis. Although the duo managed to track down Eggman and Infinite, the two villains promptly retreated to the Eggman Empire Fortress to begin Eggman's endgame, leaving Metropolis to be captured by the Resistance.

Having less than an hour left before Eggman's endgame, Sonic and the Resistance confronted the Eggman Army at the Eggman Empire Fortress in an attempt to reach and stop the Phantom Ruby's power source. During the fight, E-123 Omega came to the aid of Sonic and co. It was then that Eggman had Infinite execute his endgame; using his Phantom Ruby prototype's power, Infinite created a sun to drop on the Resistance. Thanks to the Avatar however, the sun was vanquished, thus allowing the Resistance to continue the fight. Sonic himself used this opportunity to confront Infinite while he was weak from creating the sun. When Infinite regained his full power however, the Avatar came to Sonic's aid, and together they beat Infinite, who vanished into thin air. Warned by Eggman that it was not over however, the duo then made their way to the Phantom Ruby's power source and destroyed it, seemingly winning the war. After rejoining their friends however, Eggman revealed that the power source was a decoy and that the real Phantom Ruby had been incorporated into his triumph card: the Death Egg Robot. This meant the Ruby had no weakness anymore. With the Eggman Army on the rise thanks to the Ruby, Sonic, Classic Sonic and the Avatar fought Eggman. Destroying the robot, the trio ensured the Resistance's victory over the Eggman Empire.

TakingOffAgain
Sonic heading out on a new adventure, from Sonic Forces.

In the aftermath, Modern Sonic bid farewell to Classic Sonic, whose return to the past was imminent with the Phantom Ruby now gone, although he was sure they would meet again. Sonic then inspired the Resistance to set out to clean up the mess Eggman had left the world in. When the Resistance later disbanded, Sonic decided to head out in search of new adventures, although not before bidding farewell to the Avatar, who had decided to set out on their own.

Sonic Frontiers

SonicFrontiersKeyArt
Sonic finding himself stranded on the Starfall Islands, from Sonic Frontiers.

In Sonic Frontiers, Sonic explored the mysterious Starfall Islands along with Tails and Amy in order to investigate the disappearance of the Chaos Emeralds. But then things take a turn for the dramatic immediately; as they approach the islands, sudden trouble hits their plane, and they are all sucked into a wormhole. Sonic soon after finds himself separated from his friends, eventually awakening in a strange, digital world – Cyber Space - which has taken the form of Green Hill Zone. Miraculously, he manages to escape Cyber Space, finding himself all alone on Kronos Island, one of the Starfall Islands, which is full of ancient ruins where strange enemies roam, but his friends went missing. There, Sonic hears a mysterious digital voice, claiming that he has done the "impossible" by escaping Cyber Space and naming him "the Key". It gives a baffled Sonic some cryptic direction about how to save his friends: he must collect the Chaos Emeralds, destroy something called the "Titans" and "tear down the walls between dimensions". Deciding that this guidance is better than nothing, Sonic sets out on a journey to discover all the mysteries of the Starfall Islands, rescue his friends, and discover how it all ties together.

Sonic explores Kronos Island, he learns that he must collect Portal Gears by defeating Guardian robots. These can be used to activate Portals to Cyber Space around the island. Completing the challenges within Cyber Space rewards Sonic with Vault Keys, which he needs to reclaim the Chaos Emeralds from strange devices. He also discovers that he can manipulate certain pieces of ancient technology, such as turning statues in order to open a path forward. Shortly after claiming the blue Chaos Emerald, Sonic finds Amy imprisoned in a container made from cyber energy. He uses Memory Tokens to destroy the container, absorbing the residual energy as Amy approaches him in a strange, almost ghostly state. Realizing that she is still partially trapped in Cyber Space, Sonic resolves to free her entirely as he continues exploring the island, battling enemies and collecting more items; unbeknownst to him, this exchange has been witnessed by a mysterious girl with a similarly "glitched" appearance as Amy.

After claiming the red Chaos Emerald, Sonic is intercepted by the mysterious girl and an enormous robot. The girl uses a strange red light to put the robot in a dormant state and demands Sonic to leave immediately, warning him "do not approach the Titan." When Sonic ignores the warning, the girl reactivates the massive robot, which soundly defeats Sonic and throws him across the island. After recovering from the impact, Sonic concludes that he can only beat the Titans by using the Chaos Emeralds to attain his super form. Back on Kronos Island, Sonic finds Amy accompanying a Koco trying to find their one true love. Amy explains that she can understand the Koco because the digital dimension she is stuck in is translating for her. At her urging, Sonic assists her in searching the island, finding other Koco to help along the way. This also allows Sonic to acquire the green and light blue Chaos Emeralds. The hedgehogs notice that helped Koco become inanimate, emitting energy that illuminates a strange glyph in the sky; after helping the first Koco, Sonic and Amy are suddenly transported into a memory of the past, where they discover that the Koco possess the spirits of those who came before. Afterwards, Amy expresses a desire to help others with her love, even though this means that she will have to spend time away from Sonic.

After finding six of the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic opens the path to the Titan he saw earlier - the fearsome Giganto. Unable to directly challenge the behemoth, he scales its body to find the final Chaos Emerald in a device on its head. With the final Emerald in hand, Sonic transforms into Super Sonic, finally allowing him to battle Giganto head-on; after a fierce battle, he destroys the Titan by charging straight through its chest. When Giganto explodes, Super Sonic receives a brief vision of an Ancient shouting "No! We'll find another way!" Shaking off the strange experience, he hears the mysterious voice inform him that the first seal is broken and that his next _target is on "the sand-scarred island." Amy tells Super Sonic that she feels more like her old self now, although she still seems to be half-trapped in Cyber Space; deducing that he needs to defeat all of the Titans to save her and Tails, Super Sonic takes off for Ares Island.

As Sonic approaches his destination of Ares Island, he's hit by a laser beam that knocks him back to his base form; to his further annoyance, the emeralds promptly scatter across the new island. As he sets out in search of the gems, Sonic discovers Knuckles trapped in the same sort of prison that held Amy. Upon rescuing him, Sonic asks what Knuckles is doing so far away from home, Knuckles explains that he was exploring some of the ruins when he was transported into the island and then trapped. Sonic asks Knuckles to help him search for the Chaos Emeralds so they can go home. Further into the island, Sonic encounters the draconic Titan known as Wyvern. It ignores Sonic until Sage appears, stating that she cannot fully control the Titan, but she can make it aggressive towards Sonic. The hedgehog is forced to escape from Wyvern's missile barrage, which Sage identifies as his "last warning" to leave - Sonic simply scoffs at the mysterious girl's apparent concept of "warning" people away. Later on, Sage tries to attack Sonic directly, only for Knuckles to jump in and block her laser blast. However, Sonic refuses to attack Sage, realizing that she is trying to protect "something...or someone" from him; Sage seems shaken, but refuses to elaborate as she vanishes once more.

As the search for the Chaos Emeralds continues, Sonic and Knuckles assist a group of Koco soldiers that were separated from their commander. This eventually leads them to witness a memory of a battle between the Ancients and an unknown enemy. Another troop of Koco are taking refuge in a temple that reminds Knuckles of the ruins on Angel Island, making him wonder if the Ancients are related to his own tribe's past. After Sonic helps him defend the temple from incoming Guardians, Knuckles admits that he envies Sonic's free-living ways and resolves to explore the world himself once he's returned to normal. After claiming six of the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic makes his way to Wyvern, suspecting that the Titan is holding on to the last gemstone in an effort to stop him from going Super. After a dynamic ascent and aerial pursuit, he reaches Wyvern's head and becomes Super Sonic once more to engage the Titan in battle. Destroying Wyvern gives him another vision of an Ancient, this one is lamenting on the unexpected demise of a comrade. Rendezvousing with Knuckles, who brags that he would've beaten Wyvern sooner if he were able to go Super, Super Sonic tells him that he has one more Titan to defeat so they can all return back to normal; he expresses worry for the missing Tails, but Knuckles assures him that the fox will be alright.

Sonic in his super form, flies to Chaos Island, only to be shot down and depowered once more. As he begins exploring the new location, he discovers Tails trapped in a Cyber Energy sphere and frees him; this time, however, absorbing the dispersed cyber energy leaves him visibly strained. Tails becomes concerned about Sonic's condition, which an observing Sage describes as "cyber-corruption", but Sonic forces the energy down and tells Tails that he is fine; moreover, he needs this power to rescue him and his friends. Tails offers his help and Sonic asks him to track the chaos emeralds for him; the fox has barely left before his friend staggers, clearly less well than he claims to be. Shortly after claiming the first Chaos Emerald, Sonic is confronted by Sage and the local Titan, a massive four-legged humanoid called Knight. Unlike previous encounters, Sage seems quietly interested in what Sonic intends to do against this new foe; after Sonic evades its assault with the help of a passing Squid, she deems his efforts "within parameters" before teleporting away.

Scouting the island, Sonic and Tails realize that it was formerly one of the Ancients' military bases, dotted with cannons that Tails likens to the Eclipse Cannon, but as free-standing turrets far more advanced and efficient than the Space Colony ARK's main weapon. They eventually find an environmental analyzer that networked the Ancients' technology to Cyber Space. Activating the device transports Sonic and Tails to Cyber Space, where they see the Ancients' weapon emplacements attacking an unknown enemy in the sky, only to be destroyed by a barrage of even stronger beams. Tails comments that whatever enemy the Ancients were fighting had power equal to Dark Gaia; a theory further supported when he and Sonic find the scrapped remains of a Death Egg Robot on the island, whose laser weapon they use to advance. As Sonic continues finding Chaos Emeralds and assists a Koco engineer in collecting machine parts for one of the Ancients' cannons, Tails expresses his concerns that he's slowing his friends down, citing his repeated incidents of cowardice or otherwise requiring Sonic's help. Sonic counters by recalling all of Tails' feats; when this doesn't fully break his friend's funk, he admits that self-doubt is a part of growing up and reassures Tails that he believes in his capabilities. Reflecting on this, Tails resolves to strike out on his own and prove that he can be a hero just like Sonic; the latter is surprised but moved, commenting that Tails has grown on him even faster than he expected.

Later, Sage appears in front of Sonic and asks him if he can trust the voice that is leading him, raising the possibility that it is leading him to disaster. Sonic says he will simply stop them if that is the case, which seems to confuse Sage; she then confronts Tails while Sonic is elsewhere, asking him why he believes in his friend despite the odds. Tails admits that Sonic isn't perfect, but asserts that he will always come through in the end; he cites the hedgehog's numerous past triumphs, which Sage admits is "empirical data" to support the point. With six Chaos Emeralds in hand, Sonic infiltrates a large volcano on Chaos Island, using an Ancient device oddly resembling a pinball machine to create a lava flow that disperses the clouds concealing Knight's lair. Confronting the Titan as he did Giganto and Wyvern, he claims the last Chaos Emerald from its head and defeats it as Super Sonic; afterwards, he sees a memory of an Ancient committing to an unknown plan. The disembodied voice tells him that the final lock has been revealed; he has to shut down the towers located on Rhea Island.

Reverting to his normal state, Sonic makes his way to Rhea Island, where he finds six massive towers emitting cyber energy. He scales each tower to shut them down, absorbing even more cyber energy in the process, Sage is both concerned and bewildered by his continued persistence as his condition rapidly worsens. Furthermore, each tower gives Sonic a vision of the Ancients' history, revealing that they once inhabited a distant world which was destroyed by an unknown threat. They escaped the apocalypse with ships powered by the Chaos Emeralds, only to land on Earth when their energies reacted with the Master Emerald on the planet. The destroyer of their world eventually found them on Earth, prompting them to use the Titans against it while evacuating a few Ancients to the resting place of the Master Emerald. The visions Sonic had after defeating each Titan were from their final battle against the mysterious enemy; with no other options, the leader of the squad, piloting a fourth, unknown Titan, sacrificed their life to seal the foe within their mech; in turn, the other three Titans trapped it in Cyber Space to ensure that it could no longer threaten Earth.

Unfortunately for Sonic, this last revelation comes after he shuts down the final tower, fully corrupting himself with cyber energy as everyone trapped in Cyber Space, including Eggman, is released. Tails realizes that Sonic is now trapped between realities as the mysterious voice reveals its true colors; it is the enemy that the Ancients sealed away, and now it's free to resume its destructive ways! Sonic's friends decide to sacrifice their physical forms to restore Sonic, sending them back into Cyber Space as he returns to normal; Sage desperately requests that Eggman forms an alliance with Sonic, which he reluctantly agrees to. After hastily making Sonic a member of the Eggman Empire, as a thinly-veiled effort to salvage his pride, Eggman tasks Sage with helping him find the Chaos Emeralds on Ouranos Island.

Sonic promptly begins his own hunt for the Emeralds, occasionally conversing with Sage along the way. After finding the sixth Emerald in a massive temple, Sonic meets up with Eggman and Sage, who have found the final emerald themselves. After Eggman tosses Sonic the final chaos emerald, he transforms into Super Sonic and fights Supreme, the final Titan which serves as their mysterious enemy's final prison. When Supreme is defeated, the entity escapes to space; noting that it's too powerful for even Super Sonic, Sage realizes that she must "leave" Eggman to help the hedgehog. Eggman somberly orders her to "fulfill her function," quietly referring to Sage as his "dear daughter" as she merges with Supreme and joins Sonic in flying to space. Beyond earth's orbit, the entity manifests its true form, introducing itself as The End. Sonic and Sage battle it with Supreme's power, undeterred by The End's fierce barrages and repeated insistence that it is utterly beyond anyone's ability to defeat. At last, the heroes block The End's final energy beam before Supreme hurls Super Sonic at their foe; accelerating to his limit, Sonic then dashes towards it and smashes right through the entity and inflicts critical damage, killing it. However, The End, after being destroyed falls in an attempt to blow itself up with enough force to take the earth with it; in desperation, Sage flies Supreme into The End to contain its explosion. The resulting blast is still powerful enough to send Super Sonic back to earth, with Sage asking him to "protect... Father" with her last words.

As a meteor shower begins over the Starfall Islands, Sonic's friends are released from Cyber Space once and for all, having a joyous reunion with Sonic as he returns from space safe and sound. Later, everyone is preparing to leave as Sonic sarcastically jokes about how fun the adventure was, to the dismay of his friends. Tails claims that Sonic will barely recognize him once they meet each other again; Amy wonders if Cream the Rabbit and Sticks the Badger are free for a road trip; Knuckles says that it'll be good to get back to his island, at least for a while. With their plans for the future set, Sonic jumps aboard the Tornado and sets off for home along with his friends.

Team Sonic Racing

In Team Sonic Racing, Modern Sonic and his team received vaguely worded invitations to the "Ultimate Test of Racing Skill." With their curiosity getting the better of them, Team Sonic made a beeline for the rendezvous, where they ran into Team Rose. Just as Sonic accepted Amy's offer to join her team's picnic, a stranger approached, a Tanuki calling himself Dodon Pa. Introducing himself as the one who sent the invitation, Dodon Pa told Team Sonic that they would be racing as a team in the most advanced cars he could create in a Grand Prix that would test their limits. While Dodon Pa's vagueness rose suspicion, Sonic, who was curious about this whole competition, convinced his team to join the Grand Prix. As Team Sonic got ready to depart for the first race on Planet Wisp, Team Rose ended up coming along and joining the competition.

For the races, Sonic received the Speed Star to race in. Shortly after the Grand Prix began, Sonic quickly started to enjoy the competition. Even as Dodon Pa brought in more brutal challenges, Sonic gladly welcomed them. Not long after, Team Vector joined the Grand Prix. Just as the next race was about to begin, Sonic caught Amy talking to Vector about Dodon Pa, whom they did not trust. Wanting Amy to stay focused on racing, Sonic goaded her into challenging him on the racetrack. Soon after, Sonic met Silver, who had received an invitation to the Grand Prix as well. Seeing that Dodon Pa had managed to sent a message to the future, the group realized that their enigmatic host held a lot of power. Soon after, Dodon Pa took the racing challenges up a notch. While Amy disapproved of this, Sonic gladly accepted the challenge. Later, Sonic heard from Knuckles that Tails was being sneaky. Sonic subsequently confronted Tails with this, who admitted that he was working on something. Respecting Tails' privacy, Sonic told Tails to tell him about it when he was ready. Not long after, Dr. Eggman and his team joined the competition, along with Team Dark, prompting Sonic to trash-talk with Eggman, who insisted that he was just here to race.

During a race between Team Sonic and Team Dark, Sonic focused solely on Shadow as they raced neck-to-neck in their speed-type race cars. Just as Sonic was beginning to enjoy the competition however, Dr. Eggman intruded on the teams' race in order to compete against them on his own as a "special guest" (which Dodon Pa permitted despite knowing it was a lie). After Eggman began gaining the lead, Sonic, his team and Team Dark all agreed to put their feud aside and work together to keep Eggman from winning the race. Thanks to Tails' quick thinking and his team's support, Sonic was able to pass Eggman alongside Shadow using a Slingshot maneuver. Sonic and Shadow would afterward pass the finish line while the other racers took care of Eggman with a combined Wisp power-up assault. However, Dodon Pa was too busy watching Eggman's beating to see if Sonic or Shadow crossed the finish line first. As such, the two hedgehog decided to have a rematch.[28]

Sonic later agreed with Tails that Eggman appearing here could mean he was working with Dodon Pa since they could not figure out the Tanuki's motives for making them race. Suspecting that Shadow could know something since he could likely work with Eggman, Sonic confronted his arch-rival, who revealed that he was here to stop whatever plan Eggman was cooking up. However, their egos soon clashed, and Sonic and Shadow ended up challenging each other to a race. Afterward, they agreed that they had to watch out for both Dodon Pa and Eggman. Soon after, Sonic learned that Eggman and Dodon Pa were seemingly working together. Since they did not know what the pair was up to though, the heroes decided to keep racing for now. Later, after Sonic taunted Eggman when he lost a race, the doctor sent hundreds of Eggpawns after the racers. As Team Dark set out to slag the Eggpawns, Sonic competed with Shadow to see who could slag the most Eggpawns. Sonic and Amy would later talk about how crummy a racer Eggman was, before learning that Metal Sonic had joined Eggman's team. Sonic, however, was not worried about Metal Sonic's participation. When they later had to start a new race, Sonic tried trash talking with Silver, but to no avail.

After another race, Sonic saw the Chao spectators go amok after spotting someone, who turned out to be Zavok. Annoyed by Zavok's appearance, Sonic asked Eggman if he was with him. Although Eggman denied this, he quickly had Zavok join his team. Afterward, Knuckles wanted to make his move due to Zavok's arrival, but Sonic reminded him that they had no moves while remaining confident that they would be able to handle Zavok. Since new information had put Dodon Pa into a new perspective though, Tails reminded everyone that they had no idea who the bad guy was in all of this. Sonic, however, stood by that it was Eggman and that they should keep racing for now. Later, after it was revealed that Dodon Pa was a good guy and that he was using the Grand Prix to gather information for his corporation's Ultimate Energy Engine, which Dodon Pa wanted to use for philanthropic purposes, Sonic wanted to focus on the Grand Prix. However, Shadow reminded him that they still had Eggman to worry about.

Soon after, the heroes learned from Big that Eggman had kidnapped Dodon Pa and brought him to the Final Fortress. Wanting to rescue Dodon Pa, Sonic and co. went to the Final Fortress. There, Eggman had them compete in a number of races with Team Eggman and his army of Eggpawns in exchange for Dodon Pa, not knowing Eggman was using them to gather the Ultimate Team Energy needed to finish the Ultimate Energy Engine. Once the engine was complete, Eggman stole it from Dodon Pa and incorporated it into his Death Egg. Sonic and his crew subsequently faced the Death Egg, and Sonic managed to beat it in a race. However, the Death Egg soon after went crazy and drove into the Final Fortress's core. As the Final Fortress crashed, Sonic had his friends abandon their cars and evacuate, with the exception of Tails and Knuckles who decided to remain with Sonic and help him save Dodon Pa. Touched by his friends' devotion, Sonic saved Dodon Pa with the aid of his friends and reunited with the others down on the ground. Just as the Grand Prix seemed over since the cars had been destroyed when the Final Fortress crashed, Dodon Pa decided to give everyone new cars, thus allowing Sonic and his friends to race once more.

Sonic Mania Adventures
SonicReturns001
Classic Sonic upon returning to his world, from "Sonic Returns".

In Sonic Mania Adventures, after foiling the plans of Modern Eggman, Classic Sonic returned to his time and found himself on Angel Island, which he discovered was full of holes that had been dug by someone. Noticing then Dr. Eggman fly by in his Egg Mobile with a batch of Flickies trapped in a Capsule, Sonic hurried off to rescue the critters. Finding the Capsule in a clearing, Sonic got past the spike traps surrounding it and opened the Capsule, freeing the Flickies. The Capsule, however, was a trap, which flung Sonic into another trap that tied him up by the leg and left him dangling in front of the Capsule, which turned into a timed bomb. Eggman then appeared to gloat at the doomed Sonic. When Eggman was about to leave, however, Sonic managed to lure the doctor into his own trap by tempting him to steal the Chaos Emerald he had. Escaping from Eggman's trap, Sonic was ready to leave Eggman with his bomb, but was then guilt-tripped by Eggman. Before Sonic could free him, however, he found Eggman's handheld which revealed that Eggman had four Chaos Emeralds and that he planned to cheat Sonic out of his to complete his collection. Sonic thus accelerated the countdown on Eggman's bomb and left Eggman to have his bomb blow up in his face.[29]

SMA2-27
Sonic sharing a fist bump with Tails, from "Sonic and Tails".

Sonic soon after met up with Tails and filled him in on what Eggman was up to. No sooner however, Sonic went ahead without Tails to check out an explosion nearby. At the site, Sonic found Eggman excavating another Chaos Emerald. Sonic tried to stop Eggman, but was easily repelled by the doctor's excavation mobile. Sent flying back to Tails, Sonic accepted the fox cub's aid when he offered it, and together, the two of them took on Eggman. During their battle, Sonic was almost done in by Eggman, but was saved by Tails in the nick of time. After he and Tails finally brought down Eggman. Tails found the Chaos Emerald Eggman had been looking for. With two Emeralds secured, Sonic and Tails celebrated their victory.[30]

Later on, Sonic and Tails would track down Eggman's base of operations and rush off to take on the evil doctor.[31] As they arrived, they were briefly trapped by Metal Sonic and had their Chaos Emeralds taken away. Metal Sonic then used their Emeralds and those provided by Eggman to empower himself and take Sonic on. Fortunately, Sonic and Tails soon found allies in Mighty and Ray, who would help them fight the evil robot. When they began to lose, Sonic noticed that Tails had an idea and began distracting Metal Sonic while Tails went to work. In the end, Tails managed to trap Metal Sonic and strip him of the Chaos Emeralds. With Eggman's aid, however, Metal Sonic attempted to harness the power of the Master Emerald, which Eggman had procured, to finish off the four heroes. However, the villains were stopped by Knuckles, who took back the Master Emerald. Soon after, Sonic joined Tails, Mighty, and Ray on a chili dog picnic.[32]

Modern Era

Sonic: Night of the Werehog
Sonic killed Chip
Sonic and Chip in a haunted house, from Sonic: Night of the Werehog.

In Sonic: Night of the Werehog, at one point during the Dark Gaia incident, Sonic and Chip found themselves caught in the middle of a rain storm. As such, they entered a haunted house and began exploring it, the hedgehog being interested in looking around. Unbeknownst to him, however, two ghosts named Su and Uh were roaming the abandoned building, scaring off Chip to take pictures of him and impress a female ghost named Lah. Later, Sonic accidentally caused his friend to faint after scaring him off himself.

In the aftermath, Su and Uh attempted to intimidate Sonic and Chip in suits of armor. Suddenly, the hedgehog transformed into the Werehog after seeing the full moon and knocked the two ghosts back, causing them to take pictures of themselves and leave frightened. Afterwards, however, Sonic and his friend were attacked by the ghosts again, this time having fused into a larger ghost named Baker. While the Werehog was doing his best to fight his adversary back, he was ultimately overpowered when the latter turned invisible. Chip then noticed that the creature could be seen by taking pictures of it. Sonic attempted to use this to his advantage, but had little success. Infuriated, he began randomly attacking his surroundings, and was knocked off by Baker. As the ghost split into Su and Uh again, who were fighting over a picture of the Werehog, the hero regained consciousness and scared them off with a powerful roar before sending them flying away.

Chao In Space

In Chao In Space, as Christmas was approaching, Sonic was taking a nap with some Chao at the Neutral Garden. He soon after noticed a sleepwalker Neutral Chao walk towards a swimming pool, so he guided them away from it. However, the little creature continued to go away, this time climbing a small hill and about to fall apart. The hedgehog saw this and rushed to save them, but they flied away at the last second and left him to fall into a pool, floating slightly annoyed.

As the sleepwalker Chao continued to escape, Sonic was busy trying to ensure their safety as other Chao watched. Unbeknownst to them, however, Dr. Eggman, disguised as Santa Claus, was climbing to the Neutral Garden to steal the presents there. The hedgehog then noticed the Neutral Chao flop onto the ground with a sad face, before waking up and seemingly aimlessly running towards the doctor, giving him a powerful punch in the face that sent him plummeting into the sky. Sonic caught the Chao before they fell too and saw his adversary defeated, initially confused but nevertheless satisfied.

In the aftermath, the still-sleepwalking Chao began pulling Sonic's nose. Much to the hedgehog's dismay, they got it off, causing him to scream in pain. He afterwards tied them to a tree and fell asleep next to them, his injured nose being covered in a bandage.

At one point during events of Sonic Colors, while at the Sweet Mountain, Sonic, Tails and Yacker met a Jade Wisp simply named Jade, who had escaped imprisonment from one of Eggman's bases, but at the cost of some Rebel Wisps who were attempting to rescue the other Wisps. With the fox's translator, the heroes learned that the doctor had sent out Metal Sonic to help him with his nasty operations. Afterwards, the hedgehog had Jade send them to where the kidnapped Rebel Wisps were.[34] Later on, Sonic found Metal Sonic, Orbot and Cubot setting up a Prison Capsule, which he smashed, and had a race with his robotic doppelgänger, destroying all of the Prison Capsules he could find and liberating the Wisps inside. However, much to his horror, he encountered Metal Sonic again, this time with a torso compartment that allowed him to forcefully extract a Wisp's Hyper-go-on until turning them into Nega-Wisps. Despite the odds though, the hedgehog managed to defeat his adversary thanks to the rescued Wisps' help, and left with Tails and Yacker to continue his journey.[35]

Sonic and Mario also return as protagonists in the game's story mode. Like in the previous title, they both have no dialogues, only speaking using singular noises to express their emotions. During the events of the mode, Sonic and Tails arrived in London for the Olympic Games, only to find a colored fog enveloping the city. While they were sightseeing around London, Sonic and Tails came across Fog Imposters of Mario and Luigi, whom they defeated. Afterwards, they saw the imposers fade away. Overhearing then a Boo talk about how everything was going as planned, Sonic and Tails followed it to the Tower of London. There, the duo overheard the Boo talk with King Boo about the Phantasmal Fog infesting London. From them, Sonic and Tails learned that the fog was able to create imposters of their friends. Upon noticing them however, the Boos challenged Sonic and Tails to an event. After defeating the Boos, Sonic destroyed the local Fog Machine spreading the fog, thus clearing the area of the fog. The duo tried the next day to cross the London Bridge, but it was impossible to cross due to the fog in the area. There, they met Yoshi and defeated Fog imposters of Shadow and Silver. Shortly after the real Shadow and Silver arrived though, the heroes passed Jet. Sonic, Shadow and Silver managed to stop him though, and they had him take them to the local Fog Machine. This was where Sonic allowed Shadow, Silver, and Yoshi to defeat Bowser Jr., who got in their way. Shadow then destroyed the Fog Machine, clearing the fog and allowing the bridge to be lowered. From Bowser Jr., the heroes learned Bowser was working with Dr. Eggman again. Sonic and Tails then split up from Shadow, Silver and Jet, and headed to the British Museum to discover the truth behind the mysterious fog. On their way to the museum, they met Mario, Luigi and Toad, with whom they joined forces with to destroy the remaining Fog Machines. They soon after managed to clear the grounds of the British Museum by defeating Eggman Nega and destroying his Fog Machine. In the museum, the heroes discovered that the fog came from an Fog urn in which the Phantasmal Fog was sealed up in. Now, however, it was being used by Dr. Eggman and Bowser. When Charmy Bee then returned from some reconnaissance, Sonic and his friends decided to split up and find the bad guys and their Fog Machines in different parts of the city. Sonic eventually met Knuckles and Vector at Horse Guards Parade, who defeated Bowser for him and destroyed the local Fog Machine. Sonic then left Bowser in their hands and returned to the stadium, with the fog having been removed from everywhere around London, where he told his friends about everything.

Some time later, the fog returned, this time spreading over all of London with increased intensity. Sonic, Tails, Mario and Luigi later rescued Cream and Cheese from their fog imposters at the stadium. Afterward, the group and Omega traveled to Stonehenge to follow a clue from an amnesiac Omega, where Sonic defeated Magikoopa. There, the heroes found the lid for the Fog urn, which they took with them. Omega, who had regained his memory files, also informed them that Eggman and Bowser had set up their base inside Big Ben. The heroes subsequently went there while defeating more Fog Imposters, but Toad could not go any further, so he was taken away by Omega. Sonic, Tails, Mario, and Luigi then traveled to Big Ben, where they faced Eggman and Bowser, who were empowered by the Phantasmal Fog. However, Sonic and Mario managed to win the clash. Sonic and Mario then destroyed the Master Fog Machine, returned the Phantasmal Fog to its urn and sealed it. After the fog was gone, Eggman and Bowser explained that they wanted revenge for not being invited to the Olympic Games. It turned out, however, that their invitations had been lost, but they could still take part in the competition if they signed up in time. Soon after, Sonic and Mario performed at the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games.

In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, a badge of Sonic can also be obtained from the badge machine.

In truth though, Sonic and Mario went into hiding to investigate the thefts. With the help of the Mii, however, the heroes discovered that Dr. Eggman and Bowser were behind everything, whom they eventually defeated and recovered the stolen medals from. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

In the Nintendo Switch version and arcade version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Sonic appears as a playable character. It is also the sixth game to feature Sonic and his cast compete in the Olympics with Mario and his cast.

SonicInTheTokyo64
Sonic inside the Tokyo '64 gaming system, from Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

In the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Sonic also appears as one of the protagonists in the story mode alongside Mario (and like the Nintendo 3DS Road to Rio Mode, he is no longer a silent protagonist, which enables him to speak for Mario along with Toad). In this mode, Sonic and Mario showed up for the Olympic Games where Toad brought them a gaming system called "Tokyo '64" addressed to them from an anonymous sender. As Sonic got suspicious, Luigi showed up. Not long after, Bowser, with Dr. Eggman close by, showed up, causing Luigi to get frightened and drop the Tokyo '64 he was holding and turn it on, causing Sonic, Mario, Eggman, Bowser and Toad to get sucked into the Tokyo '64. Inside the heavily pixelated world of the Tokyo '64, Sonic, Mario and Toad learned that the Tokyo '64 was a trap made by Eggman and Bowser, but it had backfired by sucking the villains in too. Although Eggman claimed there was no way out, he convinced Bowser to compete in the Olympic Games featured inside the Tokyo '64 so they could win gold medals, prompting Sonic and Mario to follow them and compete in the digital Olympic Games too.

After Sonic beat Eggman, Mario beat Bowser in the next event. Afterward, Sonic and Mario heard from Toad, who had head from Eggman that to escape the Tokyo '64, they had to collect gold medals. As the heroes tried to confront the villains though, Sonic and Mario discovered Eggman and Bowser had snuck away. Thankfully, a Pecky told Toad that Eggman flew out west, so Sonic decided to chase him, while Mario and Toad looked for Bowser. Sonic tried to find Eggman, but to no avail. Reuniting with Mario and Toad, the heroes reported that their foes had gotten away and were probably meeting somewhere. Eventually finding Eggman and Bowser in the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Sonic and Mario came face-to-face with the villains. After Toad made Eggman admit that there was a way out of the Tokyo '64, Sonic told him and Bowser that they that would not get away with the gold medals. Mario proceeded to challenge Eggman, which he won. Later, Sonic tried to eavesdrop on another of Eggman and Bowser's conversations about the medals, only for Eggman to say they were discussing strategies. Not buying this, Sonic left the gymnasium with Mario and trailed the villains to Nippon Budokan where Bowser was preparing for another event. After Sonic beat Bowser, the villains split up to devise a new plan in an undisclosed location, although not before Bowser teased the heroes by telling them that the medals will not be enough to get them out. Suspicious, Sonic decided to find the Eggman and Bowser's secret place. Nearby at the Tokyo Roads, the two heroes reunited with Toad, who saw someone who looked like Eggman going off in a taxi. With his speed, Sonic caught up to the taxi. However, the heroes discovered that "Eggman" was actually a Picky impersonating him. However, after the Picky mentioned a big flame, the heroes realized they could find Eggman and Bowser at the Olympic Cauldron in the National Stadium. There, they decided to stay back and figure out what they were up to.

Eventually, Sonic, Mario, and Toad heard Eggman say that by inserting fourteen gold medals into fourteen keyholes underneath the Olympic Cauldron, they could return to the real world. However, Eggman and Bowser soon noticed Sonic and Mario eavesdropping nearby, prompting them to hurry out and get more medals. Sonic and Mario pursued them to the National Gymnasium, where Sonic beat Eggman in another event. Soon after though, a screen that said that "Power-up Items" from Eggman Nega were on the way appeared. As mysterious items fell all over the digital world, Eggman and Bowser hurried out to get them and use them to win medals. Knowing they would be at a disadvantage against Eggman and Bowser if they got those power-ups, Sonic and Mario left to stop them. In the Tokorozawa Shooting Range, they found Eggman, who used a "Miracle Roll" power-up to amplify his skills. Regardless, Mario beat Eggman. Seeking more Miracle Rolls, Eggman left the scene, prompting Sonic and Mario to follow him. With Toad's aid, they found a Miracle Roll on top of Tokyo Tower, which they worked together on to keep from Eggman and his Badniks using the Tornado. Afterward, Sonic and Mario hurried out to stop Eggman and his Badniks from finding more Miracle Rolls. They later came across the Museum, which held a Miracle Roll, but was under lockdown by Bowser's minions to ensure no one but Bowser could get his hands on it. After Mario acquired the Miracle Roll himself, he ended up showing Sonic that it had no effect him. Regardless, the heroes decided to keep the villains from getting more of them.

Finding Bowser at Lake Sagami, Sonic beat Bowser in an event, even after Bowser ate two Miracle Rolls. Afterward, Bowser left to find Eggman. Eventually, Sonic and Mario found Eggman and Bowser at the National Stadium. There, Eggman answered Mario's challenge to test their power, only to lose. Despite the heroes' victory however, Eggman noted that he could just call Eggman Nega for more power-ups. When he did however, everything around them began flickering, which was a sign that the Tokyo '64 was running out of battery. Sonic wondered what it would mean for them if the battery ran out, to which Eggman said that they would all vanish. This eventually prompted Bowser to challenge Sonic and Mario to another event. Having no choice, Sonic and Mario accepted the challenge. At the Komazawa Olympic Park General Sports Ground, Sonic and his team of Pockies beat Eggman and his team of Eggrobos. Afterward, Sonic and Mario met Eggman's challenge in the final event in the National Stadium. Knowing the villains would play dirty, Sonic and Mario gave their medals to Toad for safekeeping. When Mario later beat Bowser, Bowser knocked out Sonic and Mario and tried to take their medals, only to discover that they were gone. While Dr. Eggman tried to come up with a new plan, Sonic reminded them that they did not have much time left and that they should team up to get out. Eventually, Eggman and Bowser agreed to a truce. The group thus went to the Olympic Cauldron and placed the gold medals into the keyholes. Soon after, a column of light appeared to take them back to the real world. While this was happening however, everything around them began to flicker again, signifying that the battery had run out. The group subsequently began to fade away while unable to reach the escape route. Fortunately, they were saved in the last second when Tails and Luigi replaced the battery on the Tokyo '64. Now restored, Sonic and the others reached the exit and returned to the real world.

As they readjusted from being inside the Tokyo '64, Sonic and Mario were approached by Eggman and Bowser, who wanted to settle the score with the two heroes in a 100m event. Accepting the challenge, Sonic got Shadow to join the event, with others joining as well. After the heroes won the match, the Olympic Games were ready to commence. In the aftermath, Sonic and Mario would resume playing Tokyo '64 now that they could come and go as they please, with Eggman and Bowser joining them for rematches.

Sonic, from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Sonic appears as one of the playable characters. He is also the second third-party character to join, behind Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series. In this game, Sonic must be unlocked by completing any one of following objectives:

  • Play 300 Brawls, then defeat Sonic.
  • Complete Classic Mode with 10 characters, then defeat Sonic.
  • Fight for 10 hours or more (cumulative between multiple players) in Brawls, then defeat Sonic.
  • Have Sonic join the player's party in the Subspace Emissary.

In the "Sonic Joins The Brawl" trailer, Sonic can be seen fighting the Subspace Army with Mario. Oddly, this never happens in the actual storyline; it is only possible to play as Sonic and Mario if one replays a level with Sonic and Mario. Sonic only appears in the Subspace Emissary once, when he attacks Tabuu, the leader of the Subspace Army and weakens him. This is most likely due to Sonic's late inclusion in the game and most of the Subspace Emissary being completed at that time.

In gameplay, Sonic is a middleweight character with the fastest dashing speed in the game, as well as among the fastest walking and air speeds, which are only boosted farther by his Spin Dash and Spin Charge maneuvers that lets him rip across the stages while attacking and/or jumping. His Spin Attack-base maneuvers gives him as well a variety of ways to attack and confound his opponent, while also aiding Sonic's ability to time out opponents. Additionally, Sonic has one of the best recoveries in the game and an effective grab and throw game, and generally great damage racking abilities from his Spin Attack-based maneuvers, up throw, and effective combos. However, he is also one of the weaker characters in the game and has few KO options. Excluding his special moves, Sonic has weak attacks that either has little utility or are outmatched by other characters' moves. While Sonic's forward smash and back air are reasonably strong, they have low reach, which together with other factors, give him a rather linear approach.

In the Adventure Mode, The Subspace Emissary, when the heroes got through the Great maze and confronted the final boss Tabuu, Tabuu prepared to turn everyone into trophies when a blue blur came out of nowhere and broke Tabuu's wings. The blur landed on a mountain, revealing himself as Sonic. Sonic taunted Tabuu and helped the heroes defeat him, restoring the World of Trophies back to normal.

Sonic also appears in the game as one of the trophies and two Stickers:

Sonic, from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Sonic made his second appearance as a playable fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series, making him the first third-party veteran in the series. In both versions of this game, Sonic is a starter character, making him available from the beginning.

In gameplay, Sonic is a middleweight character, who, in comparison to Sonic's appearance in the previous game, has received a noteworthy improvement in his combat skills. In addition to boasting the fastest dashing speed in the game and having an increased air and falling speed, his special moves allow him to attack while in motion with little fear of reprisal. Most of Sonic's attacks and moves have also received an improvement in utility, most notably in regards to his KO potential. However, Sonic's options for KOs are hindered by a noteworthy lag effect, which makes them risky to use, while also impairing his ability to achieve KOs outside of the neutral game. Also, in regards to him mobility. Sonic's linear recovery makes him an easy _target for gimping as well. In addition, in comparison to other characters, Sonic has trouble handling projectile camping due to his lack of reliable projectiles to use for this technique and his ability to neutralize them.

Each version of the game also comes with their own Trophies of Sonic:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Sonic, from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sonic made his third appearance as a playable fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series. In this game, Sonic must be unlocked by completing any one of following objectives:

  • Play VS. matches, with Sonic being the 17th character to be unlocked. Sonic must then be defeated on Green Hill Zone.
  • Clear Classic Mode with Mario or anyone in his unlock tree, being the 1st character unlocked. Sonic must then be defeated on Green Hill Zone.
  • Have Sonic join the player's party in World of Light.

In gameplay, Sonic is a middleweight character. In this title, he was slightly weakened in comparison to the previous title in exchange for a more aggressive playstyle. His Spin Dash and Spin Charge moves had a few mechanics removed, and his Up aerial's angle and knockback adjustments have lessened its hits' consistency when Sonic is ascending and its potential to score a KO despite remaining a useful set-offs for combos this time. In return, Sonic's Homing Attack is faster and more controllable, the consistency of his Spin Charge move has been improved significantly, and his Spring Jump is more useful for recoveries than in the early title. In addition, many of Sonic's standard attacks have been strengthened or received greater utility. Many of the game's gameplay changes have also worked in Sonic's favor in terms of combat and recovery.

In the Adventure Mode of the game, "World of Light", Sonic was one of the many fighters that stood up to the threat of Galeem and his army of Master Hands. When Galeem began capturing the fighters, Sonic tried to rescue Pikachu but failed as they were both engulfed by the light rays. Thus, the fighters (aside from Kirby, who had managed to escape) were held captive by Galeem so that he could clone them and create puppet fighters for evil spirits to control. During the Adventure Mode, several puppet fighters of Sonic are used for spirit battles. An evil version of Sonic can be fought and defeated in the Dark Realm so that the true Sonic can be awoken and join the fight to defeat Galeem and later Dharkon.

In this game, Sonic also appears as a Fighter Spirit with the following characteristics:

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

Chronicles bioware wp sonic 1920x1200
Sonic, from Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy were facing Dr. Eggman onboard the Egg Carrier. Together, they succeeded in making the Egg Carrier crash into Metropolis and Eggman was presumed dead.

With no need to be a hero anymore, Sonic went on a long vacation alone. Sometime later, he got a call from Tails who said that the Chaos Emeralds had been stolen and Knuckles had been kidnapped by a group dubbed the "Marauders" so Sonic agreed to help find Knuckles. On his way to Tails, Sonic joined up with Amy and they beat one from the Marauders.

With help from G.U.N., Sonic and his friends located the Marauders' hideout where they found Knuckles. When the team tried to get to Angel Island to protect the Master Emerald from the Marauders, however, they discovered that Angel Island had been hijacked. Suspecting Eggman was working with Marauders, the group looked for the doctor. Eventually, the team located Eggman. However, the doctor claimed that he had been reformed and was against the Marauders as well, and was willing to help Sonic and the others fight the Marauders by leading them into Metropolis where the Marauders had drawn Angel Island to with the Chaos Emeralds. While Sonic was distrusting of Eggman's motives, he let the doctor join.

On the way there, the team came across Shadow who Sonic fought and convinced to join them. Later, Sonic and the others met a Marauder, called Shade, who revealed the Marauders were a group of echidnas called the Nocturnus Clan, exiled to the Twilight Cage in ancient times. Despite defeating her, Shade blocked their way to Metropolis, but Sonic and the others found a way around it. In Metropolis, Sonic, Knuckles and a part of the group went to Angel Island to secure the Master Emerald, while Tails and Eggman prepared a weapon against the Nocturnus Clan.

By hijacking an airship and with some help from Tails' team, Sonic and his group got to Angel Island where they met the Nocturnus Clan’s leader, Imperator Ix, who sought to rule the world. Ix unleashed his soldiers and overwhelmed them, but Sonic stood his ground until Tails and Eggman appeared and deployed their weapon, which dispatched the soldiers. Sonic and his team then fought Ix, but were unable to stop him from stealing the Master Emerald. Ix then used the Master Emerald to create a wormhole into Sonic’s dimension so that the Nocturnus Clan could conquer it and Angel Island fell from the sky. The team then came up with the plan of going after Ix into the Twilight Cage and reclaim the Emeralds and Shade joined Sonic’s team to stop Ix’s plan, having realized the evil nature of her leader.

Using the newly-built Blue Cyclone, Sonic and the group entered the Twilight Cage while Eggman stayed behind. Inside the Twilight Cage, Sonic and his team got five of the Chaos Emeralds back and gained the alliance of the alien races residing in there. When they prepared to invade Nocturne to find the last Emeralds, Sonic united the alien races under them, who then helped them infiltrate Nocturne. Once there, they split into two teams, with Sonic and Tails leading their group and Knuckles and Shade leading the other, to find the last two Emeralds in the possession of Charyb and Scylla.

On their way, Sonic and Tails helped Knuckles' group defeat Gizoid Centurions. Sonic and his group then found Charyb and beat him with the help of Knuckles and his team and reclaimed the Chaos Emerald. Once Knuckles got their Chaos Emerald as well, Sonic and his group headed to Ix’s throne room where they saw Knuckles standing by his duty despite Ix's persuasions and attacked him. After the fight, Sonic and his team stepped in and stalled Ix, while Knuckles got the Master Emerald back.

After the fight, Ix used Nocturne's power to achieve his Super State, but Sonic retaliated by using the seven Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic and defeated Ix for good. As a final act, however, Ix started to close the wormhole out of the Twilight Cage, but Sonic and the others got through it just in time. When they returned home, however, they realized that a lot of time had passed, which allowed Eggman to rebuild his forces, which they faced upon exit from the Twilight Cage.

In combat, Sonic has low damage power and low armor, but he gets three attacks per round thanks to his amazing quickness. With his speed, Sonic almost always goes first and can damage enemies before they get a chance to react.

Sonic Runners

Sonic The Hedgehog (Sonic Runners)
Sonic, from Sonic Runners.

In Sonic Runners, Sonic and his team discovered that Dr. Eggman was back to sow up chaos again. With the aid of Tails and Knuckles, Sonic spent the next period foiling Eggman and his lackeys' numerous plots, such as kidnapping Animals, hunting Wisps on earth, harassing Chao, building new and improved Badnik armies, and attempting to procure the Master Emerald. Along the way, Sonic also helped several local inhabitants with their issues.

While Team Sonic managed to stop Eggman every time, it all would lead to Eggman's endgame: the construction of a new Brainwashing Laser powered by the Chaos Emeralds to enslave the world with. Although Team Sonic secured the Emeralds, they were too late to stop Eggman from draining them of their energy. Sonic ultimately faced Eggman in a final showdown, but upon Eggman's defeat, the mad doctor fired his Brainwashing Laser at Sonic. Fortunately, Sonic was saved by the seven Chaos Emeralds he held, which reabsorbed their energies from the laser and transformed Sonic into Super Sonic, allowing Sonic to destroy Eggman's laser. Reuniting with his team, Sonic, after returning to normal, noticed that Eggman had snuck away to plan his next scheme, but was certain that they could stop whatever Eggman would come up with, before celebrating with his friends.

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog

The Murder of Sonic enjoy your last moments
Sonic, disguised as a captain, boarding the Mirage Express during Amy's birthday, from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

In The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Vector, Espio, Blaze, Rouge, and Shadow were all ready to board the Mirage Express to celebrate Amy Rose's birthday. Before that though, all of them were given an outfit guide and lore cards so they could play a murder mystery game; the blue hedgehog in particular was given a sea captain suit (as one can see an anchor quite clearly on his hat).

Upon arriving at the train, Sonic met a local worker, who had just applied for the job of microwaving chili dogs. Soon after however, he realized that he did not bring the birthday cake he was supposed to give Amy later on, and the worker wished him luck. Later, the pink hedgehog explained him and the others the basics of the mystery game and the roles of the "murderer" and every one else. Sonic, being the captain of the Mirage Express, was sent to the conductor car.

When he arrived at his corresponding car, Sonic was greeted by the train's Conductor, who was about to retire after working for thirty two years. However, the blue hedgehog felt like something was wrong; when he asked to see the Mirage Express' power source, the Conductor had not even seen it. After the two took a look, they made a frightening discovery: the train was powered by a Flicky, therefore making it a Badnik in the sense of the word. Sonic wanted to destroy the vehicle, but the Conductor refused.

The Murder of Sonic Sonic's confession 2
Sonic being ambushed by Espio, the "murderer" of the game, from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Shortly after seeing the Flicky, Sonic was attacked by the "murderer", Espio, who had shot him with a non-lethal blowdart as the "staff" themselves had instructed him to. The hedgehog wanted to tell him about the horrifying secret, but the chameleon disappeared. Right after, the lights in the car began glowing red and the Mirage Express' robotic arms caught the Conductor. With his last strengths, the fainting Sonic tore one of the arms off with a Spin Dash, but he was grabbed by another one of them and taken all the way to the Dining Car through a vent leading there. Much later, he was found unconscious there by Amy, Tails, and the worker. The pink hedgehog believed that he was playing along, while the worker made the assumption that he was genuinely hurt but brushed it off.

The Murder of Sonic sad
Sonic's body being brought by Vector and Amy, from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Much later, after Amy, Tails, Shadow, and the worker looked around the conductor car for clues, they finished their investigation and called everyone on the train to go there. Meanwhile, the pink hedgehog and Vector went to search for Sonic, before they found his body, entirely unconscious and hurt, at the Dining Car. As some of the heroes began performing an emergency prodecure to save his life, Tails and the worker concluded that the murderer was Espio, and gave their evidence as to why they thought it was him. Eventually, Sonic miraculously regained consciousness, and revealed to all the real truth of what had happened. Furious, Amy began smashing the train's walls with her Piko Piko Hammer, with Vector joining her. However, the Mirage Express began accelerating, knocking everyone there, the blue hedgehog included, out.

The Murder of Sonic Doctor Predictable
Sonic talking to Dr. Eggman, from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Eventually, Sonic woke up with the worker at the Dining Car, where they were contacted by Dr. Eggman himself through a videocall. The doctor then revealed to the two his plan of converting various cargo trains, including the Mirage Express itself, into Animal-powered passenger trains with far greater autonomy than the average Badnik to build Eggmanland and another Death Egg. By having his Badniks compete against each other to see who captured Sonic and his friends first, the scientist would manage to have them lead his nemeses to his base to take them out once and for all. When the call ended, the blue hedgehog ran through the Mirage Express and liberated his friends, with the worker following him.

The Murder of Sonic end 4
Sonic arriving with a birthday cake, from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog.

When Sonic and the worker arrived at the conductor car, they freed Amy and Tails. Soon after, however, the group saw another videocall from Eggman, where he asked the train to accelerate so the heroes were taken to the scientist's base faster. As such, all of the heroes worked together to stop the Mirage Express. After Espio rescued the Flicky powering the train, Amy smashed the front of it with a powerful blow from her Piko Piko Hammer. The ensuing explosion sent her flying, but Sonic fortunately saved her. With all the heroes safe and sound, they began to properly celebrate Amy's birthday, with the blue hedgehog bringing her a cake for the occasion.
