The names Phyllodoce caerulea var. yesoensis Koidz. (Bot. Mag. (Tokyo) 32: 58. 1918) and Phyllodoce caerulea f. yesoensis (Koidz.) Nakai (Trees Shrubs Japan, Revis. Ed. 2: 36. 1927) represent hybrids with Phyllodoce aleutica (Spreng.) A.Heller (Hultén 1960).
