Characters

Synopsis

The episode begins with Patrick entering the Krusty Krab, after Mr. Krabs inspects his money, where he spots many fish wearing suits and ties. Having arrived at the counter, he asks Squidward for a Krabby Patty, but Squidward says that he can only serve the Executive Treatment sandwich due to the business people eating there, but only the Executives can eat it. As a result, Patrick gets a tie and a pair of glasses. He orders the Krabby Patty and attempts to eat it. However, just before he is able to, all of the executives see that their lunch break is over and they all have to return to work, and they grab Patrick with them.

As they arrive at a building, named Business Industries, Patrick tries to tell them that he is not an executive, but keeps his mouth shut after hearing that those who pretend to be executives will be considered spies and thrown in jail as they head to conference room 4B. During a meeting, Patrick meets with the boss and during a montage, Patrick is given numerous chances in the building. The boss, finally fed up with Patrick's antics, fires him, but Patrick reveals that he is not an executive at all and therefore cannot be fired. The stockholder has Patrick arrested for corporate espionage.

At jail, while talking to SpongeBob, SpongeBob learns that Patrick is in charge of the laundry room on Thursdays, which makes him an executive, so SpongeBob gives Patrick the Krabby Patty he wanted to eat. Patrick then rips off his prison clothes and puts back his tie and glasses, which causes a guard to wonder what happened to Patrick, despite having seen him change, and sound the alarm, announcing Patrick had escaped. Patrick and SpongeBob leave the prison while the prison is still searching for Patrick. The episode ends with SpongeBob asking Patrick who he is as Ptrick laughs.

Production

The episode was confirmed by Vincent Waller on August 10, 2015.[1]

Trivia

General

  • When this episode premiered, it aired first, before its sister episode, "Squid Plus One." In all subsequent airings and packaging order, the episode segment order is reversed.
  • This episode was banned in India due to the censors there considering the stockholder eel "frightening to children". As a result, its sister episode also got banned.
  • The title card is almost identical to the time card in "Enchanted Tiki Dreams" that states "One Extremely Annoying Shift Later." The only difference is that the title card's letters are shinier.

Episode references

  • Mr. Krabs asking if Patrick brought money is possibly a callback to "Pat No Pay," when Patrick ordered a large amount of Krabby Patties, but unable to pay it.
  • Patrick's prisoner number could be a reference to Plankton's from "Jailbreak!," as the numbers are the exact same with the difference of only one digit, Patrick's being 665321 and Plankton's being 655321.

Cultural references

  • At one point, the boss impersonates Groucho Marx.
    • Stockholder eel's voice actor played Groucho in the Arthur Marx/Robert Fisher play Groucho: A Life in Revue.

Errors

  • In the German dub, the title card was mistakenly cut. While it got fixed in May 2017, the title card is sometimes still cut during airings.
  • When Patrick is being shoved, there are seven executive fish, but the next scene shows that there are 22 executive fish. Then, in one of the following scenes, there are only five executive fish.
  • The elevator takes Patrick to floor number "115," but the Business Industries building appears to only have around 18 floors from the outside.
  • Right after Patrick says, "What if I have a meaningless chart?," the screen cuts to the boss and the chart is missing from the paper.
  • Marv is sent home after stamping "VOID" on Patrick's head, but he is seen again after Patrick reveals that he is not an executive.
  • When this episode was repeated on Nickelodeon on November 12, 2021 during The Best of Patrick Star, the Nickelodeon screenbug mistakenly transforms into a 4:3 screenbug.[2]
