Timeline:2006

2006 (MMVI) was a common year of the Gregorian calendar that started on a Sunday.

Much like 2005, after "Wishing You Well," no episodes aired over the summer. The show resumed from summer hiatus on September 22 with the new episode "New Leaf."

September 4 of this year was the first day that no SpongeBob SquarePants-related material aired on Nickelodeon. This happened again on July 7, 2007.

2006 was also the year Herb Scannell resigned as president of Nickelodeon, having served since 1996. Cyma Zarghami assumed the role, serving until 2018.

Production-wise, the second half of season 4 ("Whale of a Birthday" - "The Gift of Gum") and the first 15 episodes of season 5 (up to "Breath of Fresh Squidward") were produced in 2006.
