Abatrang was a planet occupying the seventh orbital position around the star Atrig in the Atrig system, which was part of the Inner Rim. It was an uninhabitable gas giant with eighteen moons and had an ammonia atmosphere. The area of space near Abatrang was occupied by carrion eaters known to threaten individuals operating as scavengers.

Behind the scenes

Abatrang was first mentioned in the 1992 roleplaying sourcebook Planets of the Galaxy, Volume Two, which was written by John Terra and released by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. One roleplaying adventure idea presented to players suggests that, during the New Republic's existence, the Corellian corvette Empire's Twilight becomes stranded after being attacked by pirates in the planet's vicinity and pulled in by the world's gravity. After the forty-five crewmembers land on the world in an escape module, the player characters must work to save the crew by venturing onto Abatrang's surface—which contradicts the same book also describing the planet as a gas giant. This article assumes the latter description is correct.

Planets of the Galaxy, Volume Two also spells the planet's name as "Abatrarg" once, though this article assumes that the more commonly used spelling of "Abatrang" is correct. The lone misspelling is additionally present in Bill Smith's 1994 sourcebook The Star Wars Planets Collection, which included a partial reprint of the content of Planets of the Galaxy, Volume Two. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Atrig system, and therefore Abatrang, in grid square J-14.
