The term landing craft was used to describe a starship that served as a transport for armed forces between a capital ship and the surface of a planet. The limit of occupants depended upon the size of the craft, which could be anything from the size of a shuttle to a Corellian Corvette. They were usually deployed to land infantry soldiers, vehicles, and supplies to engage an enemy in combat.
Many landing craft carried small defensive blasters or no weaponry at all. However, the craft's armor were usually thick to prevent the craft from being destroyed before it reached the surface.
