Robert Blalack (December 9, 1948February 2, 2022) was a photographer working at Crest Digital in 1974, where he met John Dykstra. The two paired up with George Lucas to co-found Industrial Light & Magic on May 26, 1975.[3] ILM was created to support visual effects for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. 365 VistaVision VFX shots were filmed with the composite optical production pipeline Blalack designed for the film.[1]
