Overview
Attacking and defending are crucial parts of any war game, including State of Survival. And throughout the game, you will be expected to attack and defend your settlement against other chiefs for a number of different reasons, like in an event to collect points, such as the Kill Stage, State Warfare, and so on, or simply to show off strength and power, or attempting to take resources from other chief. Even if you want to avoid being the one who begins attacks on others, you must still learn how to protect yourself properly since attacks can happen at any time.
In this guide, we'll go over basic information that is crucial in both for attacking and defending settlements in the State of Survival, as well as some suggestions to boost your odds of winning on the battlefield. There are various techniques to improve battle performance because various players have different playing styles and ways of improving, however there are some basic ways that every player can do to improve and will be addressed more throughout this guide.
Troop
It is vital to understand the basics of attacking and defending, and having a strong group of troops is one of the most important aspects that the chiefs should focus on. You'll need troops to accomplish either of these goals. And the higher your troop ranks, the more likely you are to prevail in any attack or defence against your settlement, as well as in the game's several kinds of battles.
Troops are divided into 3 categories, Brawlers (infantry), Hunters and Riders and each of it has four attributes which is Attack Lethality,Defence and Health
- Attack and lethality: determine the amount of damage your troops can inflict on your opponent and the probability that you will inflict damage on your opponent.
- Defence: refers to the ability to reduce the amount of damage taken, whereas
- Health: refers to the amount of damage troops can withstand prior to getting killed.
So we can see that defence and health are both important factors in determining how long your troops can resist damage from your opponent. It is important to enhance all four attributes of your troops, There are some suggestions that chief may want to take a note because infantry troops usually plays the shield's duty on the front lines of battle, it is recommended that you initially focus to develop your infantry tier as well as the amount of infantry. As a result, having a larger troop and higher-level troops will provide you a better chance of defending your settlement against an attack. That also means you'll have more troops to fight your opponent. Click here to find out more information about troops.
Buffs, Combat Stats and Talents
Activating settlement combat buffs is a good technique for improving your chances to win when attacking and defending. There is a diverse set of buffs accessible inside of your settlement, which are also better for defending or attacking, while others may be used in other event. These buffs can help you to increase your troop attack, defence, lethality and health as well as reduce opposing player's combat stats. For more information about settlement buffs, click here
In addition to activating settlement buffs, having your talents set to war can increase your combat stats and make it easier to attack other players. Before you launch an attack, make sure your talents are set to war. Chief Talents can be found under the "War" Section of the Chief Profile. It is always recommended to set your war talent on Infantry's defense/health, Hunter's lethality/attack, and anything you want for riders, while attacking settlements.
Attacking Settlements
Let's discuss how to attack other settlements once your troops are strong enough, as well as the kind of buffs and talents you'll need to take for the next step.
Recon
Sending a recon is a must-do before attacking any other settlements. Recons can be used to acquire information about the settlement. This allows you to become aware of your opponent's strength (such as the combat stats, number of troops etc.) as well as the number of resources available within their settlement, which will allow you to plan a strategy before you attack. It's vital to remember that sending a recon is crucial in order to prevent unnecessary losses. To get detailed information about other settlements, make sure your lookout tower is at least level 22. If your lookout tower is too low, it will only provide you limited information of a settlement. Below are example on how you can recon a settlement and what is needed to recon.
You'll notice choices after selecting your _target's settlement. Recon is the one we are focus on.
Following that, it will display a confirmation popup similar to the one shown in the figure above. Keep in mind that a Recon can cost 15k Foods. Make sure you have enough foods to start reconning. Click Recon to confirm.
Following the recon, you will obtain a report similar to the one seen above. It will show you how many resources you may pillage, how many troops are within the settlement of your _target, hidden troops, tech stats, as well the stats of the skill. If you are strong enough to attack, please do! Reinforcements are the most challenging part to which you must always pay attention. When you recon, check to see whether the player has any reinforcements. When going to attack your opponent, keep an eye on it to make sure no one from their alliance is preparing to reinforce them. If the reinforcements are coming from a strong player, you may want to reconsider your march because the stats will almost surely come from that stronger player, and you could easily lose the attack as well as your troops.
Heroes
Choosing the right heroes to lead the attack is vital, and every chief should pay attention. It is recommended to to use 'siege' type of heroes. Siege is the type of hero that when solo attacking a settlement, they will diminish the benefits of the enemy settlement, however bare in mind that this type of hero might not work for Fortress Fight.

Troop Formation
Everyone has their own opinions about what is great and what works for them. The amount of troops you send is also determined by the opponent's stats and the number of troops within their settlement, which may be discovered by reconning them. Although some players may send an equal formation, the community has suggested a 60% - Infantry / 20% - Rider / 20% - Hunter formation as an ideal formation for attacking a settlement. However, if the opponent is being reinforced by other chiefs, solo attacking may be impossible and you may want to consider start a rally with your alliance members to avoid losing troops while solo attacking a reinforced opponent.
Talent War: "Emergency Dressing"
Always activate the "Emergency Dressing" talent before attacking another settlement where you could lose a large amount of troops. This is a combat skill that allows you to turn 30 % of your losses into wounded troops instead. Both successful and unsuccessful attacks will result in troop losses, so be cautious not to lose them
Note: If you fail your attack, you will lose around 35% of your troops, 10% of your wounded troops, and 55% of your lightly wounded troops, depending on the size of your march!
Defence Settlement
Not everyone enjoys initiating an attack; this is due to a variety of reasons, including the fact that the player is either not strong enough to launch an attack or does not care about attacking other players. Regardless of what sort of player you are, as the leader of your settlement, you should defend the survivors you have rescued from the wilderness, your trained troops, as well as the resources you have gathered against possible threats.
Settlement Buffs For Defence
Peace Flare
Peace Flares are a settlement buff that provides a shield to defend your settlement from enemy attacks and recon attempts. If you know you will be absent in-game for quite some time, such as during a Kill Stage Event or State Warfare Event or simply have so many resources inside of your settlement that you do not want stolen, it is highly recommended to use a peace flare. You are able to purchase them in your Alliance Store using Alliance Donation Coins. You have the option of 2 hour, 8 hour, or 24 hour peace flares, each with a different cost of biocaps. You will also obtain free 8-hour peace flares after a certain amount of time (maximum 5) as well as free 24 hours biocaps during State Warfare. More information about peace flares can be found here.
Recon Jammer
Recon Jammers are one of the settlement buffs that prevents enemies from reconning your settlement. However, the enemy can still send a march to recon your settlement, but they won't get as much information. Just like the Peace Flares, you can choose to be protected from any recon for 2 hours, 8 hours or 24 hours, and each come at a different price. More information about Recon Jammers can be found here.
Defence Facility
Barricade
The barricade facilitates in the defence of your settlement against attackers. This includes attacks by hordes as well as attacks by other players. This is one of the most significant buildings in your settlement that you must maintain and upgrade on a regular basis in order to improve your defences. Please keep in mind that if you are unable to defend your settlement from an attack, your barricade will be burnt for around 30 minutes per attack, unless your settlement is attacked many times at once that will cause your barricade defense level drop excessively. Make sure your barricade is in good condition and that it is repaired if it is damaged.. More info about barricade can be found here.
Your barricade's durability will also be determined by the heroes that patrol it. Your strongest skilled heroes will be assigned to patrol your settlement automatically. You can easily be attacked by enemies if no heroes is assigned for settlement defence, however even though your strongest heroes will be automatically assigned but please know that not all heroes have the required skills, so you are advisable to use Patrol heroes for your settlement defence.

Blast Shelter
The Blast Shelter is a safe haven for your troops in the situation of being in an enemy attack. There may be times when an enemy's power is far greater than yours, resulting in an incoming onslaught. You'll want to protect your troops if you don't want them to die. This is when the Blast Shelter comes in handy. You can only hide one march at a time inside Blast Shelter, and you may choose how long you wish to keep them hidden. However, you can only hide a certain number of troops inside a Blast Shelter; the number of troops you can hide is determined by your current march capacity. More information about the Blast Shelter can be found here.
Lookout Tower
The Lookout Tower is a building that let you know when an attacker is approaching, which is a useful technique to prepare yourself defending while you are online. It acts as a warning system for any approaching danger. You don't have to utilise this feature as it will notify you by flashing your screen red. You'll need to upgrade your lookout tower to the maximum level to get the most out of this building. By doing this, it will allow you to view additional information about the enemy's march, such as the amount of troops, heroes, certain gears, the sort of enemy powers, and how much time you have to decide whether to take the hit, run, or seek for reinforcements.
Reinforcement
One of the best methods to protect yourself is to request reinforcements from one of your alliance members, ideally from stronger members. Not only will extra marches of troops help defend your settlement, but the game's mechanisms will also enable you to use their combat's stats instead of your own, which can greatly increase your chances of winning against the attack. The amount of reinforcement troops that may be sent to your settlement is determined by the level of your Assembly Point. The higher your Assembly Point level, the more troops your alliance members can send to reinforcement. When they send you reinforcements, make sure they also send you their strongest heroes.
Other than asking for reinforcements, you can also send your troops to reinforce other alliance members, or you can send them to garrison alliance towers or the alliance's headquarters. It is advised that you send your troops to stronger alliance members. Most attackers will hunt out chiefs who are weaker than them, so sending your troops to a higher level chief is a smart choice. Some players may send their troops to resource tiles; you may do so as well; however, this is not recommended during the Kill Stage Event and State Warfare Event because attackers can gain points by killing troops during both events; therefore, please avoid sending troops to resource tiles during both events.
