The Charge glow of a specific character is the graphics used for each character when they perform the Supercharger move, which is where the name derives from. However, the charge glow actually predates the Supercharger, but was at that time unnamed. It was, and still is, present when the character carries out a move that is particularly strong, results in a clean hit, or during an Unblockable move. As an example; those of Mishima blood (Jinpachi, Heihachi, and Kazuya Mishima, Lars Alexandersson, and Jin Kazama) all have lightning effects as their charge glow, Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law have a yellow twisting flower-like effect, etc.
Starting from Tekken 6, where it first became customizable, the Charge glow is now referred to in-game simply as Effect. From Tekken Tag Tournament 2 onwards, all characters now have multiple color variations available for their personal effect as well as generic shared ones. In Tekken 7, it is also sometimes additionally called Hit Effect.
When the glowing effects are shown in-game, they are usually accompanied with vibration effects from the PlayStation controller. Tekken 3 was the first Tekken game to introduce rumble support for the DualShock controller.
