Ghost Battle is a game mode that first appeared in Tekken 5, and continued to appear until Tekken Tag Tournament 2. In Tekken 5 and the PlayStation Portable version of Dark Resurrection, the mode was referred to as Arcade Battle. It would not be renamed to Ghost Battle until the release of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online. All of the CPU opponents rank from at least 1st kyu up to Tekken God. After the player wins a fight, player can choose one of three opponents to continue fighting, or exit the battle.
If the player fights against 30 ghosts in the console versions of Tekken 6, they will get the "Ghost Vanquisher" achievement. The highest ranks are "Tekken God" in Tekken 6 and "True Tekken God" in Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
In the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Tekken 6, the player can promote their ranking up to 1st Dan via Ghost Battle, then the player needs to play Online Battle to continue promoting their rank afterwards, as offline ranking was not separate from online ranking. This was changed in the PlayStation Portable version of Tekken 6. In this version of the game, the player can promote their online ranking up to Tekken God via Ghost Battle.
In Tekken Tag Tournament 2, online and offline rankings were made separate, and the player can promote their offline ranking up to True Tekken God via Ghost Battle.
This mode is replaced by Treasure Battle in Tekken 7, and returned as Super Ghost Battle in Tekken 8.
