The Transformers cartoon

Voice actor: Jack Angel (English), Osamu Saka (Japanese), Philippe Roullier (European French)

On seeing Perceptor crash to the ground in the mountains near his hut, Katsu Don mounted his steed Bruta Lo and went to investigate. He recovered Perceptor, who was suffering from transformation lock, and was able to remove the Autobot's universal emulator, hidden behind his Autobot insignia, and use it to repair Nijika. Interrupted by the arrival of two Sharkticons, of which he made short work, Katsu was surprised when Nijika at last spoke—Perceptor had become housed in the small robot as part of the universal emulator. The Autobot was able to extract from Katsu the history of his world and how the Quintessons had sealed it off from the rest of the universe with a quadrant lock.

Concerned that the Quintessons had returned, Katsu and Perceptor went to the Zamojin Empress with the news, and they were able to interrupt Blurr's imminent sacrifice. During the confusion, Nijika was grabbed by Cyclonus. Katsu grabbed the Decepticon by the legs and was taken aboard the Quintesson spaceship, where he was seized and a device used to torture him. The Quintessons traded Katsu's life for the universal emulator, and he was able to escape with the Autobots.

Fortunately, Perceptor had sabotaged the quadrant lock, releasing Zamojin from its prison. With the Zamojin telepathic network restored, Katsu promised he would someday complete his ancestor's work, and that Nijika would reach the stars. The Face of the Nijika

Legends comic

In the 2030s, Katsu Don asked Topspin and Twin Twist for their help in creating the Legends World, an alternate dimension the Zamojin would use to experiment with Chōkon Power. The two agreed to steal the Zodiac and use it to found the dimension, leaving Katsu Don with a promise that they wouldn't interfere with the Zamojins' use of it. Bonus Edition Vol. 66 Eventually the experiment concluded and the Zamojin decided to destroy their creation so that its powers wouldn't fall into the wrong hands. Bonus Edition Vol. EX Katsu Don set out to do the job, only to meet with resistance from Leo Prime. He won their space duel by draining his opponent's "Beast Power" with Nijika's weapon mode, then followed him to the planet's surface where he attacked Lio Junior, earning him the enmity of Lio Convoy. Convoy then granted Leo Prime a new body powerful enough to defeat Katsu Don, who fled back to his home universe, warning Prime that he didn't understand the danger posed by the Legends World. Bonus Edition Vol. 41

With Nijika damaged in the battle with Leo Prime, Katsu Don began rebuilding her in a Zamojin/Transformer-scaled body but was missing parts needed to give her a head. Recalling that Perceptor's parts had interfaced with Nijika before, he returned to the Legends World, sought out the Autobot and stole his head to use in his creation. Perceptor's comrades interrupted the process, however, and the scientist sent Katsu Don fleeing by training a gun at him. Despite all this, Perceptor still considered the Zamojin a friend and hoped he would come to his senses someday. Bonus Edition Vol. 56 Katsu Don was later tracked down by his other creation, Nijika's renegade "sister" Windblade, who asked him to rebuild her as a Headmaster so that she could merge with Nijika and use her power to save the world. He did as requested, but only in return for Windblade returning to the Zamojin. Bonus Edition Vol. 62

Katsu Don renewed his efforts and had Windblade attack the Legends World using Pinpointer, Spoilsport and Peacemaker, only to be opposed by Topspin and Twin Twist. Bonus Edition Vol. 65 The two explained in spite of their promise, they couldn't stand idly by and watch the world they created be destroyed, enraging Katsu Don who attacked them together with Windblade. They were both defeated by the Autobots' Attack Powered form, however, and the Zamojin was captured and handed over to Perceptor for questioning. Bonus Edition Vol. 66 This was followed by Devil Z attempting to take the Legends World's powers for himself, prompting Katsu Don to explain his reasoning and tell the Autobots "I told you so". Devil Z was defeated by Grand Maximus who chided Katsu Don for his destructive approach, telling him to believe in the Legends inhabitants' ability to overcome any threat. Bonus Edition Vol. EX

After languishing in prison for a while, Katsu Don was broken out by Flywheels who informed him that his boss, Scorponok, also sought to destroy the Legends World and wanted to work together. Agreeing to an alliance, Katsu Don attacked the Autobots and stole the _targetmasters Scorponok needed, then summoned an entire army of Zamojin warriors from his homeworld to aid in the final battle. Legends World in Imminent Danger! Part One He ended up defeated by Overlord, whose mastery of Chōkon Power was greater than his, but got the last laugh as the world ended up destroyed by Devil Z anyway. Legends World in Imminent Danger! Part Two

Notes

  • Katsu Don shares his name with katsudon (カツ丼), a Japanese fried pork dish. The name of Katsu Don's ancestor, Niko Don, has a similar pronunciation to nikudon, a Japanese dish of pork on rice. It's probably for this reason that Katsu Don's name was localized as the Chinese-sounding "Yunkang" in Japan.

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Yunkang (ユンカン Yunkan)
