Roughstuff
From Transformers Wiki
- Roughstuff is a Decepticon Micromaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Roughstuff is the poster-child for "trigger-happy". (Actually, Triggerhappy is the poster-child for "trigger-happy", but Roughstuff can be the poster-nephew, or something.) At the slightest hint of a _target, he'll fire. "Verifying the _target" and "aiming" are for sissy-bots. In a rare sign of wisdom, his superiors have transferred him very far from the front lines. This has just made him even more hungry for things to shoot at.[1]
When he doesn't have a gun in his hands, Roughstuff unsurprisingly fits the bill for "dumb muscle" and can hold down a job as a bouncer at local watering holes on Cybertron.

Fiction
Dreamwave Generation One continuity
Roughstuff, like most Micromasters, was created by the Autobots and Decepticons in a joint venture several million years ago to increase manpower. During the training period, he was one of several Micros who respected the hot shot named Runner, aka Barricade, and apparently joined up with the Decepticon cause after the Meltdown Riots. Victims of the Revolution Sometime later, he was acting as a bouncer in Little Iacon, checking Micros before they were allowed into the bar. The Gray Race
2019 IDW continuity
- First appearance: Transformers #21
Roughstuff had the unenviable task of transporting the most unstable members of the Rise (which included Rage, Quake, Rumble, Frenzy, Fangry, and Triggerhappy) to a new remote base to keep them out of trouble. Then a groundquake opened up a fissure that he and his convoy fell into. Then Triggerhappy shot him for no reason. Sucks to be Roughstuff. Tremors
Roughstuff was later getting repaired by Flatline while in the carrier with Quake before a mob of Ascenticon supporters attacked the carrier. Prisoners Then he got sprung from the clink by Swindle and recruited as a henchman for the guy. Sucks less to be Roughstuff. Hunt
Roughstuff got along fine with the staff of Swindle's, doing muscle and intimidation work. He did get a little uncomfortable around Bumblebee, who was obsessed with mentors and his own failings as one. Swindle's II
Swindle started to question Roughstuff's value as an employee, though. Roughstuff allowed the non-aligned Cyclonus into the club after Iacon became a Decepticons-only town, giving little resistance as a bouncer. Darkness, Once Gazed Upon: Part One Roughstuff escorted the regulars out of the bar when Swindle had to close up early to pay back a favor to Smokescreen. However, the Autobot brought incredible heat down on Swindle's trying to smuggle the prisoner Ultra Magnus out through the underground network. Darkness, Once Gazed Upon: Part Two Sixshot and the Decepticon Guard laid siege to Swindle's to apprehend the Autobots. Roughstuff saw which way the wind was blowing, turning in his resignation and turning Swindle himself over to Sixshot for making deals behind their backs. Darkness, Once Gazed Upon: Part Three
Roughstuff took the badge and became an official Decepticon. He was placed on guard duty with Gutcruncher, swapping stories with his predecessor about how Swindle came up with ways to avoid paying both of them. However, they ended up being the latest in Decepticon guards who failed to keep Cyclonus from going where he wanted. War's End Part One With growing concerns being raised about the return of Exarchon, Sixshot took Roughstuff and other Decepticons out into the Sonic Canyons to follow the reports. They found members of the Rise willingly working with the Threefold Spark. War's End Part Two They formed an uneasy alliance with Pyra Magna's squad of Autobots, deeming Exarchon the greater threat. The Threefold Spark was beaten, leaving Roughstuff and the Decepticons to return to Megatron with the newly arrived Constructicons. War's End Part Four
Toys
The Transformers
- Roughstuff (Micromaster Transport, 1989)
- Accessories: "Military transport" trailer, double missile turret, 2 missiles
- Known designers: Takashi Kunihiro (TakaraTomy)
- Released in the sixth year of the The Transformers toyline (fifth year in the European line), Roughstuff transforms into a green and blue military truck cab of undetermined, possibly made-up model. The truck tows the military transport trailer/jet which looks like... a folded up jet, rather than a trailer transporting some kind of missile launcher. Roughstuff's robot mode is unusual in that nearly his entire vehicle mode is on his back. He also has the distinction of being one of the few (If any!) Micromasters that can look down. The trailer turns into a weird jet thing. Roughstuff can sit in the rear area of the vehicle, behind a handle bar.
- This toy was sold in Japan as the Autobot Missile Bull.
