Does anyone find it creepy how she just blends into Galvatron?

Thunderblast is obsessed with power. She craves it, but rather than directly attaining it herself, she instead seeks to gain power by latching onto a male Decepticon who has it. She forms an instant infatuation with the strongest Decepticon she can find... but as soon as the power structure shifts, so does the focus of her affections. She is usually seen clinging all lovey-dovey to Galvatron, ignoring the fact that he has no interest in her whatsoever beyond her ability to follow orders and destroy Autobots (and be used as a disposable pawn if necessary).

Though she's fickle and flighty (and greedy and selfish and opportunistic and vain and overconfident and...) she's not stupid. She knows how to use her wiles to get what she wants and is always looking for suckers to manipulate to her advantage. She knows Autobots are generally reluctant to shoot at a female (especially one as pretty as she thinks she is) and uses that to her advantage as long as she can... at least, long enough to give them a face full of missiles. She's an effective warrior as most are on land but when it comes to aquatic combat, few can match her skill.

She seems to have something resembling an actual friendship with her fellow "demon" Lugnutz, despite his mellow, unambitious nature. And while she's generally disappointed if guys aren't fawning over her, she's found that she wants nothing to do with the geeky Shortround, who is always head over wheels in love with her. On the other end of the spectrum, she has quickly gained the undying hatred of the human girl Lori.

Let the animators go home to their wives once in a while.

Thunderblast arrived on Earth in the colony ship Atlantis millions of years ago. While the Autobots watched over and guided human evolution, the Decepticons terrorized the humans, inspiring the myths and legends of old; Thunderblast was the inspiration for the myth of Lorelei and the Sirens. Thunderblast's Cyber Key Code text These "monsters" were rounded up by the "monster hunter" Crosswise, who locked up the criminals inside a prison located in the center of the Earth (called the "Earth's Navel") where they stayed until they were released by Starscream in the present day. Assault

In the seas of the South Pacific, Thunderblast is out looking for some fun, and scans a human speedboat for an alternate mode. As she is enjoying the sun and surf, Jetfire appears in the sky overhead. They fight briefly, before Thunderblast suddenly vanishes into thin air. Jetfire transmits the info to the Autobot base, where Scattorshot deduces that Thunderblast has disappeared into a Camouflage Shield that is hiding something in the middle of the ocean. Back at Starscream Volcano island base is using as a staging base, to which Thunderblast arrived just in time to witness Starscream adding the Earth's Cyber Planet Key to the Omega Lock. Revelation

Baby, why you make me gotta hit you?

Thunderblast and Lugnutz defended Starscream's volcano-island base from the Autobots and Decepticons... up to a point. Starscream While Lugnutz decided simply to wander away from the "heavy scene", Thunderblast found herself less than impressed with Starscream and took to following Megatron (whose power was just soooooo dreamy), joining his forces as they journeyed to Cybertron, which transformed into Primus's gargantuan robot mode. United

There, while admiring her looks in a mirrored satellite, she was interrupted by a super-sized Starscream who gave her the choice to steal the Omega Lock or get blasted to smithereens. Memory She took the former option but managed to weasel her way out of it by lying to Starscream, luring him planetside, and then telling Megatron that she was ordered to attack him. Starscream arrived and the two bickered until they were interrupted by Optimus Prime and Wing Saber. All parties involved rocketed off to fight, leaving her free to wander off unperturbed. Escape Shortly afterwards, she tracked Jetfire and Wing Saber, leading Megatron to the missing Atlantis starship. Titans

Oh no you DI'INT!

When Megatron returned from the fire dimension, Thunderblast and the others continued to follow him all the way to Gigantion. There, when she teamed up with Scourge in a hunt for the planet's Cyber Planet Key, they ran across an Autobot party consisting of Override, Wing Saber and the human Lori. Thunderblast and Lori very quickly got on each other's nerves, both browbeating Scourge. When Thunderblast took off, Lori scared Wing Saber into following, leaving Scourge and Override to duke it out.

Wing Saber chased Thunderblast through the lower levels, but it was a trap since the Decepticon was leading them to a harbor area and water combat was Thunderblast's element. Wing Saber took a fair pummeling, but Lori noticed a cluster of cranes and she set them up so Wing Saber could lure the overconfident "floozy" (in Lori's words). Thunderblast was surrounded by half a dozen massive claws before being crushed and overpowered by the final one. Wing Saber took the chance to blast her while she was down, the explosion sending her flying away uncontrollably. Ambush

Thunderblast is on the move, Thunderblast is loose!

When Megatron (now Galvatron) and Starscream dueled over the Omega Lock and the four Cyber Planet Keys, Thunderblast briefly wondered if she was infatuated with the wrong 'bot. But when Galvatron emerged victorious, she happily followed him back to Cybertron. There, she and the few remaining Decepticons still loyal to Galvatron (Thundercracker, Ransack and Crumplezone) were given a boost of Omega Lock power, super-sizing them so they could take on the massed armies that had gathered from all of the colony worlds to oppose them. After being assaulted (and insulted) by Undermine and Brimstone, Thunderblast found herself going up against her old friend Lugnutz. Though she seemed shocked he'd side with the "good guys", she got over it pretty quickly and had no compunctions about trying to blow him away.

Ultimately, Galvatron's plot failed. Thunderblast realized that Galvatron was going to let her die in the cataclysm that his plan would have caused and she ran off along with the other now de-powered Decepticons. End When the rocket boosters built on the Jungle Planet to push the world back to its normal place in the cosmos began to fail from an attack by Galvatron, the four Decepticons arrived cackling...and helped with the efforts to keep the thrusters upright and functional, deciding to try being on the winning team for once. Unfinished

Men never ask for directions.

Afterwards, Thunderblast, Ransack and Crumplezone went to each world, trying to find a place to fit in and failing. Thunderblast in particular threw herself at about every strong male bot around but it seemed no one was even remotely interested. When the Autobots were ready to begin their space bridge initiative, the trio built a rickety rocket, shanghaied the reluctant Thundercracker (who was really enjoying being an Autobot) and took off for parts unknown as the New Decepticon Army.

They made it as far as Mars before the rocket crashed. Beginning

Spacewarp's Log

Thunderblast, Ransack, and Crumplezone were found by Spacewarp acting as goons for hire on Spensifax D (or A) when the pirate was trying to steal a Reciprocating Inverted Subspace Knife. Thunderblast was happy to team up with the newcomer against her boss, but was less than pleased when Ransack turned her in. The two then spent some time flying around the Spensifax system, trying to escape, until Spacewarp got away with the RISK and Thunderblast patched things up with Ransack and Crumplezone. She ships it. (Hasbro version pictured)
  • Thunderblast (Deluxe Class, 2005)
  • Takara name: Chromia
  • Takara ID number: GD-11
  • Takara release date: July 14, 2005
  • Accessories: Missile launcher, 2 torpedoes, Earth Cyber Key
  • Cyber Key Code: dh62
  • Known designers: Eric Siebenaler (Hasbro), Takio Ejima (TakaraTomy)
Cybertron Thunderblast transforms into a speedboat of undetermined, probably made-up model via shellforming. She has a small, rotating (non-firing) machine gun on the front of her boat mode, and more importantly a large missile rack on a rotating and elevating base on the back. Inserting a Cyber Key into the back of the missile rack opens it up to reveal a spring-loaded missile launcher which uses the torpedoes mounted under her hydrofoils as ammunition. The rack becomes a hand-held weapon for her robot mode. In an undocumented feature, her machine gun can be removed from the front of the boat and pegged into the holes where the missile rack goes in robot mode, giving her a smaller choice of weapon.
There are several small but significant differences between the Takara Galaxy Force "Chromia" and the Hasbro Cybertron "Thunderblast" versions of the toy. The most important one is that the Takara release has a molding defect that gives her lopsided eyes, a defect that the Hasbro release fixes. There are several small paint operation changes between the two; the Hasbro version loses the silver on the boat mode torpedo racks, makes her silver upper chest armor a single application (the Takara version splits this in half, leaving her collar unpainted), and adds brighter lavender to the circular details on her chest and boat-mode. And of course, the Hasbro version adds a Cyber Key Code to the back of her Cyber Key.
This mold was also used for BotCon 2009 Elita-1 and was the basis of the non-toy Beast Wars: Uprising version of Scylla.

You had ONE JOB, Value Pack. ONE JOB.
  • Sideways, Brimstone, Thunderblast ("Value Pack", 2005)
  • Accessories: Missile launcher, 2 torpedoes, Earth Cyber Key
  • Cyber Key Code: dh62
Thunderblast was also available in a Toys"R"Us exclusive "Value Pack" alongside Sideways and Brimstone in late 2005; all three normally-carded toys were put in a large cardboard "sleeve" that let the bubbles stick out. This set retailed for $29.99... and since Deluxes were $9.99... not much of a "value" there.

Might not be the most inexplicable homage deco ever done, but it's certainly up there.
  • Chromia White Version (DVD pack-in, 2005)
  • Release date: February 22, 2005
  • Accessories: Missile launcher, 2 missiles, Earth Force Chip
Packaged with limited editions of the ninth disc in the Galaxy Force DVD series, the white and red redeco Chromia White Version (クロミアホワイトバージョン) was an odd homage to the Super-God Masterforce Autobot Minerva. This release uses the Hasbro version of the mold, with the corrected face sculpt.
And due to the fact that this was a limited edition figure, later releases of the DVD did not include the toy.
This deco of Chromia/Thunderblast was later repurposed as the Cybertron Autobot Chromia.

Notes

  • A working name for the character in Japan was Minerva.[1] Thusly, her TV Magazine exclusive toy was given a color scheme in homage to G1 Minerva.
  • According to the Galaxy Force Volume 10 DVD booklet, Thunderblast's stats are:
    • Height: 3.9 meters
    • Weight: 2.6 tons
    • Speed: 440 kilometers per hour

Hey, at least people aren't making fart jokes out of the name “Thunderblast”.
  • Thunderblast's CG model has a pair of... well, breasts under her chest armor, complete with protrusions that are pretty clearly meant to be nipples. These are only visible in certain shots when the armor lifts up and the camera is looking up from below, most prominently in the episode "Memory". The animators at GONZO obviously weren't taking enough cold showers.
  • Kreon Thunderblast is made from existing Kre-O parts, like nearly all non-toy robot Kreons in the Kre-O comics. She uses the Knock Out helmet, 3X1 wing pieces (to simulate her original counterpart's kibble), a backpack piece, and a bazooka-gun.

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Chromia (クロミア Kuromia)
  • Hungarian: Mennykő ("Thunderbolt")
  • Korean: Chromia (크로미아 Keulomia)
  • Russian: Molniya (Молния, "Lightning")
