Unicron's antibodies
From Transformers Wiki
As befitting a being of his size and power, Unicron possesses a myriad of defense systems designed to deter attackers. Should a being successfully breach his outer defenses, for instance, his antibodies, or anti-bots — creatures that dwell within his form and act as extensions of his body — will attempt to seek out and exterminate the intruders before they can damage his internal systems. Though their appearances and abilities may vary from universe to universe, their innate relentlessness does not.

Flint and Cosmos traveled within Unicron's body to deliver a devastating payload of metal-eating spores to his brain, but were attacked by his antibodies, in the form of mind-controlled Beastformers. Flint and Cosmos fought their way past the Beastformers and defeated Unicron with the fungus. Whether this freed the enslaved Beastformers or not remains unclear. However, Joe Colton was charged with leading a mission to Unicron's dead body in order to bring assistance to its residents (presumably the Beastformers). Black Horizon, Part 2 of 2

It wasn't until they were crossing a vast space that the creatures attacked en masse, with their sheer numbers making them difficult to overcome. Optimus and Megatron entered Unicron's spark chamber, leaving the other three outside to hold off the anti-bots. Once Unicron's spark was extinguished, the remaining anti-bots dropped out of the air like bricks. One Shall Rise, Part 3
