General Alfred "Alfie" Blessington is the main antagonist of the 2023 Victorian Steampunk erotic dark comedy film Poor Things.
He is a ruthless military commander with a record of disemboweling men on the battlefield and sending amnesiac, shell-shocked wretches back into the fray. He is also the abusive husband of Bella's "past life" Victoria Blessington, who came to reclaim Bella after learning of her existence.
He was portrayed by Christopher Abbott, who also played the Foreigner in Kraven the Hunter.
Appearance
He appears as charming and handsome man wearing military clothes with countless medals symbolizing his military career. After he has his brain swapped with that of a goat, he wears a white robe and in the right side of his head, there is a scar which he got after Bella and Max did the brain transplant.
Personality
He is consistently soft-spoken and gentle in the way he speaks, appearing himself as a loving and caring husband to Victoria. However, he is revealed to be a controlling, abusive, bloodthirsty, cruel and straight up sociopath. This is best exemplified as he threatens everyone in his mansion with gunpoint, which satisfies his sadistic pleasure, which he takes it in a whole level as he does so with many men during his time on the battlefield. He is also a horrible husband to Victoria, as his constant abuse towards her caused Victoria to commit suicide alongside her unborn child, and not because she despised her own child. His worst trait is when he tries to rip Bella's genitals so he can rape her to have other children. He sees his wife Victoria as his property, instead of a human being with opinions and aspirations.
History
Alfred Blessington is a ruthless military general with a record of disemboweling many enemy soldiers and sending amnesiac, shell-shocked men back into the fray, which he considered his entertainment. He met Victoria at a ball, and they married out of a shared love "of good times", which is their shared love for cruelty, according to him. However, their marriage was a dismal one as he's extremely abusive towards her, which caused her to commit suicide, while pregnant of their baby, by falling to a river and drown. Victoria's body was found by Godwin Baxter, who transplanted her baby's brain in her head, giving birth to Bella Baxter in the process.
Alfie later found out about his wife's whereabouts thanks to Duncan Wedderburn, a lawyer who Bella had an affair with, and confronted her as she is marrying Max McCandles, Godwin Baxter's student and protégé, as he explains Bella her true identity, believing that Victoria had amnesia, as he didn't know that Baxter transplanted their baby's brain into her. As he takes her to their mansion, he explains Bella her past live as his late wife Victoria, and coerced her to stay for months or a year. Bella eavesdropped a conversation between Alfie and a doctor, as he plans to rip her genitals in order to father a new heir by force. As Bella prepares to leave to see her creator, Alfie forces her to drink a glass of gin with chloroform in order to sedate her, Bella reveals the true reason why Victoria took her life. Unamused, Alfie pointed his gun towards Bella so she can drink the sedative. However Bella chucks the sedative back in his face, which causes him to shoot his foot. Bella then called Max to pick him up as he is bleeding. Back at Baxter's surgery, Max stopped the bleeding, and both planned to swap his brain with one of a goat. He's last seen eating the grass in Baxter's garden with a huge scar on his temple.

- In an interview, Christopher Abbott stated he watched multiple goat videos in preparation for the role.
