Biography
Anna Grant was a Terran Federation intelligence agent codenamed Bartolomew. Her family appeared to be unaware of her true affiliation, notably her brother Del, an anti-Federation mercenary. When the Federation became aware of Avon's plan to defraud the banking service, they assigned Anna to infiltrate his operation to find out if his motives were political. Anna became Avon's lover and closest confidante. She identified anyone he had contact with and had them picked up by the Federation, conducting the interrogations herself.
When Avon was wounded by the man he was buying exit visas from, the opportunity was taken to extract Anna. The story was put about that she had been arrested and died under Federation torture. She then assumed her role as Sula, the wife of Councillor Chesku.
Anna had apparently left the intelligence service by the time Servalan rose to power. She had no love for Servalan's decadent regime, describing her as a tasteless megalomaniac and her presidential palace, Residence-1, as a grotesque anachronism. Chesku remained a keen supporter of Servalan but Anna allied herself with a group of rebels led by a man named Hob to stage a coup.
During the official opening of Residence-1, Anna killed Chesku after they had left the secure area, then she and her rebels killed a group of Federation troopers who came looking for them. Using Chesku's clothes and Federation uniforms, Anna led her rebels to the residence, where they massacred the Federation security personnel despite taking casualties. Servalan was captured and Anna convinced Hob to keep her alive so she could formally hand power over to them.
Anna's plan fell apart when Avon and his crew turned up at the residence looking for Servalan. On finding Avon and Tarrant in Servalan's dungeon, Anna greeted Avon warmly but he was instantly suspicious of the fact she was still alive. As he began to deduce that she was Barolomew, Anna, fearing he would kill her for betraying him, attempted to shoot him but Avon fired first, fatally wounding her. He held her as she died, with her maintaining she had truly loved him to the end.
