Apocalypse (X-Men Legends)

Now all shall bear witness to my greatness. I hold their leaders powerless, and their mightiest city is under my control. Soon I will show this world a war the likes of which has never been seen. I will weed out the weak and inferior so that only the strong survive!

Apocalypse after invading New York City.

En Saban Nur, best known as Apocalypse, is the titular main antagonist of the 2005 video game X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse. As usual, he is an immortal, power-hungry mutant terrorist who firmly believes in "survival of the fittest".

He was voiced by Richard McGonagle.

Biography

This Apocalypse shares the same backstory as his Earth-616 counterpart; left to die in the desert of Egypt as an infant but then rescued from certain death by a wise tribesman named Baal, who saw greatness in the child that had never before visited the Earth. Thus, Baal named him En Sabah Nur ("The First One" in Arabic) and began training him in the harsh ways of the desert, teaching him that only the strong are fit to survive and rule, while the weak shall be crushed and perish. As a young slave, En Sabah Nur watched and waited for the right moment to strike against the pharaoh, Rama-Tut. And when he did, Apocalypse proved himself to be stronger, casting out his enemy into the shadows of time.

In the present day, after the X-Men defeat General William Kincaid, Apocalypse attacked the country of Genosha alongside Mr. Sinister, capturing thousands to perform deadly medical experiments on for harmonic DNA to make himself stronger; only Magneto and several others managed to escape. When the X-Men and Brotherhood team up to free Genosha's inhabitants, Apocalypse has several bombs placed on the city's lower seawall, thus nearly drowning the entire populace. Afterwards, Apocalypse invades and blows up the X-Mansion, thus destroying Cerebro while also capturing Beast to brainwash into his minion.

Apocalypse also orders Mikhail Rasputin to attack the Savage Lands and destroy the atmospheric generators, which if successful would reduce the island back to its original temperatures, thus dooming thousands to die from hypothermia. Later on, Apocalypse launches a destructive invasion upon New York City, during which he drops a bomb that turns a large portion of the city into a crater, killing countless people, rendering numerous high-ranking leaders comatose, and placing sentry guns along the coast to prevent Bolivar Trask's Sentinels from saving any and all surviving refugees. According to Department H, Apocalypse planned to repeat this invasion with other major cities around the world.

In the meantime, Apocalypse turns Angel into Archangel through cruel experimentation, augmenting his speed and strength while also filling his soul with nothing but hatred, rage and a death wish for the X-Men. He also captures Emma Frost, Polaris, Quicksilver and Sabretooth, placing them in stasis to once again make himself stronger via their harmonic DNA. In the end, when the X-Men and Brotherhood intrude Apocalypse's lair to defeat him, Mr. Sinister secretly sabotages his machine to short-circuit and nullify his powers, causing him to fall in battle. It's unknown what happened to Apocalypse afterwards; he wasn't destroyed, but the X-Men are prepared should he ever return.
