Atlas is the overarching antagonist of the 2023 DC Extended Universe superhero film Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the sequel to the 2019 film Shazam!.
He was the aggressive and tyrannical father of Kalypso, Anthea and Hespera. However, his realm was destroyed by a previous hero who once had Shazam's powers.
He was portrayed by Derek Russo.
History
He was a tyrannical omnipotent deity who ruled his realm with an iron fist. He had three daughters, Kalypso, Anthea and Hespera. He wanted to conquer many places, but the Earth he desired to keep it protected from harm, for pragmatic reasons, so he could be it's hero figure and he even got to hold it with his bare hands.
One day came and he fought a war which he lost due to a superhero identified as the previous Shazam defeating him.
Trivia
- In Greek mythology, Atlas is the Titan who was condemned to hold the world on his shoulders after the War of the Titans.
- Despite being a tyrant, he never had plans to conquer the Earth with a monster army like Kalypso did, meaning that she didn't truly care for anyone, not even him. This was however only cause he wanted to be seen as a hero, and not cause he truly cared about protecting humans. Whether his final plans were to protect or destroy them remains unknown.
