Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik/Synopsis

Synopsis of the infamous mad scientist Dr. Eggman, the main villain of the Sonic the Hedgehog videogame franchise.

Past

As a child, I looked up to my grandfather, because of all the great things he accomplished in his life. He was my hero, and I wanted to be a great scientist like him!

Dr. Eggman to Tails about his childhood

Ivo Robotnik's past remains mostly unknown but what is known is that he was an aspiring prodigy with a gift for building powerful machinery. Ivo also knew of his grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik, who he looked up to as an incredible genius, but was wrongfully convicted and executed for crimes that he never committed while he was working on a top-secret project called "Project Shadow". Also likely, because of the scandal, the Robotnik name became tarnished and Ivo led a harsh childhood because of it. Thus, he dedicated his life to avenging his grandfather and sought revenge on the world by using his gifts for total conquest of it. Eggman's Egg Memos in Sonic Frontiers show he was neglected as a child, as he speaks of how his family gave more attention to his cousin Maria when she was dead for years instead of giving him the attention he needed.

Dr. Robotnik's schemes usually involved creating legions of deadly robots powered by imprisoned animals called "Badniks" to serve as his minions. At some point, however, he ran afoul with a blue, anthropomorphic hedgehog with incredible running speed named Sonic the Hedgehog, who often foiled his plans by smashing his robots to free the animals trapped in them, thus beginning the deep rivalry between the two.

Classic Games

Sonic the Hedgehog

In the first game, Robotnik learns of the fabled Chaos Emeralds and that they can only be found on South Island. Hoping to use the emerald's power to defeat Sonic for good, he builds an industrial complex on the island, creates Badniks from the island's inhabitants and sends them out to search for the emeralds. His arch-nemesis, Sonic, follows him and collects the emeralds first. After beating Robotnik off the island, he then uses the Chaos Emeralds to repair all the damage the evil doctor had done.

Sonic CD

In Sonic CD, Doctor Eggman arrives in a world with seven gems that can control time. Planning, he created a robotic version of Sonic, dubbed Metal Sonic to keep him busy which he does by kidnapping Amy Rose. He also attempts to mechanise Little Planet, a small planetoid that appears on top of a lake named Never Lake one month every year.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

In the second game of the main Genesis series, Sonic's friend Miles "Tails" Prowler joins the blue hedgehog to stop Robotnik, who has conquered West Side Island. Sonic eventually defeats Doctor Robotnik in a skirmish on the doctor's space station dubbed the "Death Egg". In the GameGear version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the good doctor takes Tails for ransom, asking for 6 Chaos Emeralds in return.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

In the third game of the main series, after being damaged by Sonic, Eggman's space station, the Death Egg, starts falling out of orbit. It lands on a floating island known as Angel Island where he meets Knuckles the Echidna, the last member of his tribe, who is responsible for guarding Master Emerald, which kept the island levitating. Eggman tricks Knuckles into believing that Sonic will come to steal his emerald, and so makes him Sonic's enemy.

Sonic and Knuckles

In Sonic and Knuckles expansion, after once again being damaged, the Death Egg falls onto Angel Island once again, and lands in a crater. As Doctor Robotnik prepares his Death Egg for a new launch, he drops a bomb on Knuckles, which infuriates him and sends on a search for Sonic.

Dr. Eggman's classic design.

The complete Sonic 3 & Knuckles ends with the heroes destroying Eggman's robotic creations on the Death Egg and taking the Master Emerald back from Robotnik during the Doomsday event. Later on, Dr. Eggman was revealed to have survived. After the Final Weapon fell into Earth, he got stranded in the middle of the ocean with nothing but a lifebuoy. However, a Flicky soon after appeared. Though the doctor begged it not to pop the lifebuoy, the bird ended up doing so anyway

Eggman has appeared as the main villain of nearly every other earlier Sonic title, such as SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles' Chaotix, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic the Fighters, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic R, with Sonic defeating Eggman at the end of each except SegaSonic the Hedgehog (in which there is no boss battle), Knuckles' Chaotix (in which Knuckles and his team fights him), and Sonic Labyrinth (in which one of Robotnik's creations is the final boss).

In Sonic Labyrinth, Eggman manages to sneak up to Sonic while he was sleeping and replaces his shoes with Slowdown shoes, ignoring the fact that he could have just destroyed Sonic right there.

Modern Games

The Sonic Adventure games reveal some parts of Robotnik's backstory and unite the use of his alias "Eggman" (in English versions of Sonic Adventure) and his surname "Robotnik" (Sonic Adventure 2 features the first official appearance of the name "Robotnik" in Japanese versions). He plans to use a monster called Chaos for his own evil ways.

Sonic Adventure 2 reveals that Eggman's cousin Maria and grandfather Professor Gerald Robotnik (who was Ivo's hero and idol) were killed by the government's agents. That act was shocking for Ivo Robotnik, turning him into the terrorist, trying to destroy the government and create his own ideal Eggman Empire (and, in later games, the industrial Eggmanland).

In Sonic Advance, Eggman captures several of the animal population and has turned them into robots. Sonic and co. team up and head after Eggman to stop him from taking over the world. Sonic and his friends defeat Eggman in six zones and he flees as he releases a capsule of captured animals. In the fifth zone, he uses a robotic version of Knuckles to defeat Sonic and his friends, but they manage to defeat him. Sonic and his friends follow Eggman up into space by a rocket and confront him. Eggman tries to defeat Sonic and his friends with his machines, to no avail. Sonic turns into Super Sonic and chases Eggman, while Eggman throws balls at him until he manages to destroy his robot and return to Earth a few days later.

In Sonic Advance 2, Dr. Eggman proceeds to continue his goal of creating the Eggman Empire and manages to abduct Tails, as well as a youngster named Cream, and also manipulates Knuckles into fighting Sonic, even supplying him with the Egg Saucer. However, Sonic manages to rescue them (and in Knuckles' case, put some sense into him), and eventually confront Eggman at Area XX, alongside copies of the various mechs he used before. Despite the destruction of Area XX, Dr. Eggman does not give up and proceeds to use a mech to abduct several Flickies as well as Cream's mom, Vanilla, right in front of them. However, Sonic manages to transform into Super Sonic and defeat Eggman, also rescuing Vanilla.

Dr. Eggman manages to find the Chaos Emeralds and use them and Chaos Control to rip the earth apart in Sonic Advance 3, separating Sonic from his friends in the process. He also develops several doomsday devices, including G-merl, a robot modelled after the deceased Emerl. Sonic eventually manages to beat Eggman, however, and to make matters worse for them, G-merl betrays Eggman and steals the Chaos Emeralds, forcing Eggman to team up with Super Sonic to stop G-merl. It is implied during the credit scene of the true ending that Dr. Eggman brought an unconscious Sonic back to safety.

Sonic Heroes

Metal Sonic, now known as Neo Metal Sonic, rebels against Dr. Eggman and locks him aboard his own flagship. In the meantime, Metal Sonic impersonates the doctor, fighting the heroes and gathering data to upgrade his battle capabilities. The real Doctor Eggman somehow manages to send the Chaotix Detective Agency a walkie-talkie and contacts them via it, with his voice altered as a cover. He coordinates the detectives, promising them a payment for saving him, and waits for the detectives to free him and later meets all of the teams to fight Neo Metal Sonic, also reminding them about the power of Chaos Emeralds. After Neo Metal Sonic is defeated and reverted to his original form, Eggman attempts to sneak away from paying Vector, only to be spotted by him, forcing him to run away from the now angry Team Chaotix.

Shadow the Hedgehog

Eggman is one of the main antagonists (alongside Black Doom, and the GUN Commander) and the Eggman Empire is one of the factions which Shadow The Hedgehog can ally himself with. Dr. Robotnik can either give missions to the hedgehog or fight him as a boss. Robotnik's forces take part in defending the planet from the Black Arms and the doctor himself ends cheering on the protagonist in the canonical "Last Story" ending. During the final boss (if the player continues fighting for 8–10 minutes), Eggman reveals to everyone, including Shadow, that the Shadow they've been working with since Sonic Heroes is indeed the real and original Shadow. After Black Doom is defeated, Eggman tries to sneak away, only to be chased by Knuckles.

Sonic Riders series

King Doc
KingDoc

Eggman is the main antagonist and searches for the treasure in Babylon Garden, getting the Babylon Rogues to win the Chaos Emeralds for him but is disappointed at the treasure being a carpet (unaware that it is a magic carpet). In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, he attempts to use MeteorTech robots and the Arks of the Cosmos to take over the world, but they turn on him and are destroyed by Sonic. In Sonic Free Riders, he disguises himself as "King Doc of Toreggmania" and hosts a Grand Prix, having ordered Metal Sonic to race for him and collect data from Sonic, Amy, Shadow, and Jet's teams. Metal Sonic, however, deceives his master yet again and collects the data for himself, intending to defeat Sonic in a race with it. In the end, it's revealed that Eggman never had a prize for the Grand Prix winner in the first place.

Sonic Rush series

Eggman teams up with his supposed "counterpart" from Blaze the Cat's dimension, Dr. Eggman Nega, to create an Eggmanland beyond all dimensions by abusing the Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds, however, they are defeated by Sonic and Blaze. In Sonic Rush Adventure, they team up again, this time acting in Blaze's world, creating Captain Whisker to find the Jeweled Scepter for them so they can use it to awaken the Power of Stars. After Whisker is destroyed, they steal it themselves but are defeated by Sonic and Blaze. Nega tries to use "Planet-Buster Laser" to defeat the heroes, scaring Eggman who calls him mad for this, but is interrupted by Marine the Raccoon and ends up destroying their robotic Egg Wizard. Eggman survives and presumably returns to his home dimension.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Eggman learns about the Solaris project, an experiment conducted by the kingdom of Soleanna to harness the power of their sun god, Solaris. He plans to reunite Solaris two halves, Iblis (the raw power) and Mephiles the Dark (the mind and will), and use Solaris' power to control time. To do so, he acquires the Scepter of Darkness, within which Mephiles was imprisoned, and launches an invasion of Soleanna, kidnapping its ruler, Princess Elise III, who had Iblis sealed away within her.

Sonic Rivals series

Eggman is imprisoned in a card by Dr. Eggman Nega, who is revealed to be Ivo Robotnik's descendant from 200 years in the future who hates the good doctor for disrupting their line of brilliant scientists with his failures and wants him removed from the timeline. However, Eggman is released by Shadow and Silver and helps them get to Nega's base. In Sonic Rivals 2, he reprograms Metal Sonic as a mindless servant and has him team up with Shadow to stop Eggman Nega from releasing the Ifrit and destroying the world.

Sonic Unleashed

Eggman awakened Dark Gaia in an attempt to take over the world and defeat Sonic. After he is defeated by Sonic and Dark Gaia is reassembled, he is knocked into the distance by the demonic being, who will not take orders from him. He survives, however, and is last seen chasing his robot assistant SA-55 into the distance for calling him "the most pathetic loser in all the world, whose past efforts are utterly wasted".

Sonic Colors

Eggman opened an intergalactic amusement park pretending to have redeemed himself. In fact, however, he is harvesting thousands of aliens called Wisps for their energy to power a mind-control device which he plans on using to take control over Sonic's planet. When it fails and forms a black hole that starts destroying the park, Eggman finally snaps and decides to focus solely on killing Sonic, and attacks him with the Egg Nega Wisp (also known as Nega Wisp Armor). After his defeat, he is left in the middle of space with his robot assistants Orbot and Cubot pushing his Eggmobile. This appearance has marked the first time a 3D Sonic game features Eggman as the final boss.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

In Episode I, which chronologically takes place after Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, Doctor Robotnik starts a new scheme and improves on some of his earlier creations to stand a better chance against Sonic. However, this does not slow the hedgehog down and he eventually defeats Eggman during a showdown aboard the E.G.G. Station. Simultaneously, Eggman recovers Metal Sonic from Little Planet and repairs him so he can assist the doctor in his next scheme. In Episode II, it shows that the good doctor is not finished yet and begins the construction of his Death Egg Mark II around Little Planet. Sonic and Tails chase Eggman across various locations before making their way onto the Death Egg Mark II itself. Although Robotnik has Metal Sonic by his side, he is ultimately defeated again by the heroes at the heart of the new Death Egg.

Sonic Generations

While stranded in space, Eggman finds a monstrous, supernatural entity, that he converts into a cybernetic organism, called the Time Eater, which he uses in an attempt to alter time and erase his previous defeats. He kidnaps and teams up with his past self from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, however, both Eggmen are defeated, destroying the Time Eater in the process, resulting in them being trapped in limbo, unable to escape. During this, they realize they will never beat Sonic, and plan to get a teaching degree if they ever get out.

Sonic Lost World

Eggman somehow escapes limbo (and does not take up a teaching degree) and tries to harness the power of the Deadly Six to take over the world, using a magic conch to torture them into submission, but they rebel against him since Sonic took Eggman's conch and kicked it into the distance, forcing him and Sonic to work together to defeat them. After the Deadly Six are defeated, Eggman (who faked his death during his alliance with Sonic to power a machine) turns on Sonic, revealing he had been using him to defeat (and possibly kill) the Deadly Six, effectively becoming the true main antagonist. He is defeated by Sonic shortly after, and falls off the Lost Hex, seemingly to his death. It is revealed in the end that he survived by falling into soft dirt but lost half his mustache due to a rabbit mistaking it for a carrot stalk and ripping it off while he was unconscious.

Sonic Forces

After finding and studying a mysterious and powerful gemstone known as the Phantom Ruby (which his classic self had already encountered), Doctor Eggman begins plans to make his biggest bid for world domination yet. Fuelled by his hatred for Sonic the Hedgehog, Eggman incorporates the Phantom Ruby’s power into a disgraced squad leader and eventually converts him into his latest weapon: the enigmatic warlord known as Infinite.

When his preparations were complete, Eggman commences a worldwide assault and is soon confronted by Sonic and Tails. The doctor summons Infinite and duplicates of Sonic’s rivals to battle the blue hedgehog and seemingly succeeds in destroying him. With Sonic finally gone, Eggman continues his invasion for six months with great success. Conquering 99% percent of the world, the remaining 1% still resisting his forces. While Eggman gives his enemies three more days to prepare for a final confrontation, The Resistance fight to weaken the Phantom Ruby's power, which is presumably being energized by the rebuilt Death Egg orbiting around the planet.

The Resistance eventually succeed in destroying the Death Egg with the help of Sonic the Hedgehog (who is revealed to be alive and well), a version of Sonic from an alternate dimension, and a remarkable recruit usually referred to as the "Rookie". Unfortunately, a backup generator is hidden under Metropolis managed to give the Phantom Ruby enough power for Eggman to have Infinite conjure up sun balls; only destroying the Resistance but also all other opposition on the planet’s surface. However, the Rookie uses a Phantom Ruby Prototype he/she found to make the sun disappear, saving their allies and making Eggman retreat to his base.

As the heroes defeat Infinite for the final time (leading to him getting absorbed into the original Phantom Ruby) and tackle the dangers of his base, Doctor Eggman plays his trump card by installing the Phantom Ruby into his Death Egg Robot. Despite all its power however, his new robot is defeated by the teamwork of both Sonic counterparts and the Rookie, thus foiling Doctor Eggman’s plans and releasing his gripping hold on the world. Eggman disappears without a trace after the final fight against him, leaving his fate ambiguous.

Sonic Frontiers

Eggman goes to the Starfall Isles where he discovers ancient technology leading to Cyberspace where he attempts to implement his newly created AI, Sage onto the device to study it, only for him to get sucked into the device. Sonic, Tails, and Amy then arrive to the Island, sensing chaos emeralds in the area. While they try approaching the area, a wormhole sucks them up.

A trailer for the DLC The Final Horizon also seems to suggest that Eggman will play some role, as he is seen charging up at a cliff-side as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Sage arrive face-to-face with a Titan.

IDW Comics

A New Lease on Life

Dr. Eggman's past history is largely similar to his mainstream counterpart but, after his defeat during the events of Sonic Forces, the doctor disappears without a trace (in lieu with how his fate wasn't shown after the Death Egg Robot's defeat), leaving his Badniks around the world leaderless and disorganized. Around one month later, Sonic and his allies notice that Eggman's robots have become more organized as they've attacked more villages as of late. This leads the heroes to believe that someone was controlling the robots from the shadows. However, thoughts that it could be Eggman are soon disregarded by Sonic, as he believes it wasn't the villain's style not to announce his return.

Sonic is eventually informed by Espio the Chameleon (after saving a couple of villages from destruction) that the Chaotix Detective Agency have found Dr. Eggman in a peaceful village. After making his way there, the hedgehog is soon greeted by an amnesic Eggman who introduces himself as "Mr. Tinker". The Chaotix and village head explain that Eggman is no longer the maniacal madman he once was, as he has no memory of his past crimes or identity and used his inventive mind to help villagers with their problems out of gratitude for taking him in.

Suddenly, a small group of Badniks are spotted heading towards the village so, whilst the Chaotix go to stop them, Sonic races to check on Eggman and find him hastily constructing a blockade while also trying to reassure frightened children. Sonic decides to play along and goes to fight the Badniks, during which he realizes they aren't attempting a rescue. Afterwards, the heroes are convinced that Eggman is no longer a threat, until the doctor brings up that he was building "Eggman Land". Before they can learn more, Shadow and Rouge appear, the former intent on destroying Dr. Eggman. Luckily, Sonic manages to convince Shadow to give the reformed villain a second chance before they both learn that the Eggman Land "Mr. Tinker" was referring to is an indoor amusement park created for the children. Meanwhile, the mastermind behind the recent Badnik attacks watch on and announce it is time to move on to the next phase of his master plan, revealing himself to somehow be Dr. Eggman.

He joins his Egg Fleet as it set a course to Angel Island but, when Sonic boards an airship intending to learn more about the villain's plot, Eggman decides to confront him personally. He begins to gloat about his plan upon meeting the blue speedster until Sonic calls him a "faker" since he had met the real Eggman previously and asks about the impostors' true identity. The doctor then morphs into Neo Metal Sonic who explains that he had been upgraded by his creator during the war for the planet and is meant to be used as a last resort against his enemies but, when the war ended with Dr. Eggman's disappearance, Neo decided to usurp command of the Eggman Empire under the guise of its ruler until the real Eggman is located and reinstated to command.

The Return of Dr. Eggman

During the Resistance's battle for Angel Island, the amnesiac Dr. Eggman is kidnapped by the mercenary brothers Rough and Tumble and is taken a facility where he is strapped into an advanced device. Terrified, Eggman pleas to his captors and offers to build anything they need if they let him go. This behavior prompts Tumble to question if their captive really is Eggman, but then his employer Dr. Starline appears to confirm that it is him and expresses his own intention to return Eggman to his former glory by restoring his lost memories. Their captive claims this to be is a mistake, saying he is Mr. Tinker and doesn’t want to be Dr. Eggman. Starline responds that Eggman would not want to be "Mr. Tinker" neither and tells him to think about Eggman Land as he lowers a visor to the handyman's eyes before inducing him with electric shocks. Later, following Metal Sonic's defeat, Dr. Starline finishes the first part of his captive's treatment to help him regain his memories and asks him if he feels more like Dr. Eggman. However, even after three treatments, Eggman retains his new personality with no knowledge about his former identity.

Starline theorizes that some sort of emotional or mental trigger is needed, prompting Orbot and Cubot to try and make their boss remember to no prevail (although they soon question if they really want their old boss back upon experiencing Mr. Tinker's kindness). Suddenly, Metal Sonic enters the facility in rough shape, which gives Mr. Tinker concern and he offers to help the robot before memories of his time with Metal and his past life come flooding back to him. This finally returns the doctor to his villainous ways, although with no recollection of his more recent activities as Mr. Tinker.

Dr. Eggman receives a change in clothing before repairing the damage done to Metal Sonic while being updated on current events by Dr. Starline. He learns of Metal's defeat on Angel Island and decides to move on with a new plan rather than restore the robot's ability to shapeshift. Eggman also decides to recruit Starline into his empire after the platypus offers the seven Chaos Emeralds as his "apprenticeship application" and gives Rough and Tumble weapons they can use against Sonic the Hedgehog. He then enters another room with Orbot and Cubot as he prepares to unleash an new weapon upon the world.

With the assist of Starline, Dr. Eggman begins experimenting with an artificial virus he created that can transform organic tissue into metallic matter. He first exposes a Pocky to a large dose of the virus which causes instantaneous transmutation into a suggestible, robotic, zombie-like being. Eggman then has the Pocky grab a Picky to transmute it's condition onto before exposing various other objects to the virus. From these experiments, Eggman concludes that creatures infected with the virus will aggressively try to transmute it, the virus' effects work slowly on those it is transmuted to and anything processed or inert is immune to the virus. Eggman is happy with these results and prepares the newly dubbed Metal Virus for its role in his plans, despite some concern by Dr. Starline who believed further testing was required.

Later, Dr. Eggman begins to ponder if there is a way to accelerate the spread of his Metal Virus on those already infected. He has the Pocky he experimented with earlier transmute the virus on an infected Ricky and the continued exposure completes the Ricky's transmutation much more quickly, to Eggman's delight. He then plots to use Rough and Tumble as a way of spreading the virus into Sonic the Hedgehog after they demand more weapons from the doctor. Moments later, Eggman becomes enraged after Dr. Starline tricks Sonic into almost getting himself killed in an explosion. He forcefully grabs Starline by the throat and tells him that Sonic is his to destroy, as he first wants to prove his superiority over his lifelong nemesis. Eggman then throws Starline aside after the platypus mutters an apology, revealing Sonic survived with Silver's help, and soon gets Rough and Tumble prepared for another assault against the heroes.

Spreading the Metal Virus

Dr. Eggman outfits the mercenaries with backpacks which he instructs them to use only in an emergency. However, Eggman knew that they would fail to defeat Sonic and would use the backpacks to unintentionally infect themselves with the Metal Virus. the doctor watches via security feed as Rough and Tumble become zombie robots and manage to infect Sonic, just as he hoped. He then decides to call the zombie robots by Sonic's moniker "Zombots" (as he thought the name was catchy) before walking with Starline to begin the next big phase of his plan. The pair board a huge flying fortress known as the Faceship, which Eggman designed to produce and distribute massive quantities of the Metal Virus. Dr. Starline inquiries as to how Eggman was able to build new fortress so quickly, to which he responds that a large number of his Badniks were meant for building, like how many were meant for combat. However, even the amount of his workforce has its limits, which is something he believes will soon be a concern of the past.

Eggman orders Orbot and Cubot to launch the Faceship into the sky before offering Starline a tour of the station. He reveals to Starline that the entire fortress is powered by the seven Chaos Emeralds which he had given him earlier and were placed above the Faceship's throne, which doubles as a power generator. Dr. Eggman then shows his eager lackey a large mixing room where vats of a secret formula are blended into gallons of the Metal Virus. Despite this, there still isn't enough of the virus for the Faceship to achieve global saturation. However, Dr. Eggman is instead planning to dose a couple of key residential areas on the planet and allow the newly-converted Zombot residents to spread their infections worldwide. His first stop is Windmill Village, the same village that took him in while he had amnesia.

The Faceship looms over the village while Dr. Eggman (referring to himself as Mr. Tinker) announces his return to its citizens and tells them that while his memories are little jumbled he does remember their kindness and hospitality. But he then claims that no good deed goes unpunished before unleashing a tidal wave of the Metal Virus upon the villagers, which instantly converts them into Zombots. Now under his control, Eggman tells the infected villagers to share the "gift" he gave them with other people in the world before the Faceship heads to it's next _target.

After dowsing Seaside City with the Metal Virus, Dr. Eggman decides to divert from his set course and travel to Floral Forest Village in order to endanger Sonic's friends who live there. Dr. Starline questions this decision but Eggman explains to him that infecting the village will make it a veritable minefield of the Metal Virus that Sonic would have to run through to save his friends; speeding up the spread of his own infection. Wanting to see Sonic struggle, Eggman then orders the Zombots to attack Sonic, but is shocked to learn from Cubot that they hardly responded to his command. Orbot reveals that the doctor's command over the Zombots had been rapidly declining since they left Windmill Village, causing Starline to question his mentor further. Eggman theorizes that spreading the virus through exposure may of caused random mutations in its coding, but he remains unconcerned as the virus was still mostly working as intended and any issues with control can be dealt with later on.

As the Faceship approaches the last village unaffected by the Metal Virus, Eggman and Starline head to the Zombot infested Barricade Village to test out different radio frequencies in hopes of communicating with the Zombots. Eggman was getting annoyed with how time consuming the tests were and thought he should of broadcast recordings of himself relaying orders from the Faceship. But Starline reminded him that he agreed to using tight-band broadcasts as they were the best next step. Dr. Eggman noticed the passive aggressiveness in Starline's voice and warned him if he wanted to keep his position as apprentice, then he needed to show more support in their endeavours. The platypus replied that in hindsight, it would have been better if Eggman had built a failsafe for the Metal Virus growing beyond his control.

Both doctors continue their squabbling until Sonic suddenly appears before them and straight up questions why Eggman chose to return to his villainous ways after experiencing a more peaceful life as Mr. Tinker. Dr. Eggman reflects on his alter ego's lifestyle and admits it was relaxing, but believes he is currently doing something better by achieving unity and bring guidance using the Metal Virus. He then remarks the similarities between him and Sonic by saying they both have their own styles that they are unwilling to change. Already done trying to convince him to give up, Sonic angrily threatens Eggman to reverse the effects of the virus before attacking him upon his refusal.

Dr. Eggman defends himself using weapons attached to his Eggmobile, but as Sonic fights back against him, the doctor's hovercraft is flipped over and drops them both amongst the Zombot hoards. As the Zombots approach, Eggman desperately tries ordering them to stay away and is surprised when they actually comply, attacking Sonic instead. He is informed by Dr. Starline that a working command signal has finally been found and Eggman quickly tells him to upload the signal into the Faceship so he assert control over all the Zombots on the planet. But Sonic immediately stops this by destroying the Eggmobile and Starline's hovercraft, forcing both villains to flee on foot. They warp back to the Faceship where Starline admits at had forgotten the working frequency in their haste and asks if they should try again. But Dr. Eggman replies to him that the Metal Virus is probably adapting to resist it already. Instead, he decides they will just focus on infecting Spiral Hill Village first before attempting to again tackle the problems with control.

Sonic Prime

Eggman discovers the Paradox Prism, a mysterious crystal found deep within the tallest mountain in Green Hill. He tricks Sonic into opening the cave leading to the prism and, as Sonic infiltrates his plans, the hedgehog breaks the Prism, affecting everyone (except Shadow due to him using Chaos Control), and creates the beginning of the series. After being split into 5 separate versions of himself due to the Prism's destruction, the Prism was restored and time reset to before Sonic broke the gem, Shadow teleported in and Chaos Controled the Prism away before it could be broken again.

In the Mario & Sonic series

Dr. Eggman is a playable character in every Mario & Sonic series installment, ever since Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for the Wii. Eggman is a skill type in every game he appears in.

Eggman first appears in the first game with the other Mario and Sonic characters. He is a skill type and has very high stamina. Eggman must also clear 6 missions which involve archery Single Scrulls and Hammer Throw. Beating all the missions will award the player the Eggman emblem.

Eggman next appears in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games where he and Wario try to sabatoge Mario and Sonic in the into to the game. He is joined by Metal Sonic who is a new comer and has many of the same stats as before. In the Festival mode he can compete against his own decentant Eggman Nega. In the Adventure mode in the DS version, Bowser and Eggman are the two main villains who kidnap the snow sprits to make their own winter Olympic games. One star sprit gets away though this does not concern them. Once Mario and Sonic find out they set off to stop them. Later in the adventure they come across, Rouge and offer her gemstones if she defeats the player. Once Rouge loses she demands them to realize the snow sprit. When they refuse, Rouge kicks them. However, the villains had managed to kidnap Frosty in the meantime and take him to Blizland, which they had turned into a common hideout that combined elements from Bowser's castles and Eggman's bases. When Sonic and Mario later reach the end of their hideout after freeing Frosty, Bowser and Eggman give them three final challenge to pass. The first is Blazing Bobsleigh, then Fever Hockey, and finally Extreme Snowboarding. Once their rivals have defeat them, they are disappointed that they lost, but are then angered about it and escape. In the aftermath, all the Snow Spirits have been freed and bring the snow back, thus allowing the winter Olympics to resume. After Bowser Jr. and Metal Sonic join the team, Bowser and Eggman can be challenged again. After losing, they decide to join the group to improve their skills.
