Biography

When the school's current janitor Hank goes on a 2-week vacation to Bermuda, Earl fills in as substitute janitor. He was first seen mopping the cafeteria floor when he bumped into Mikey by accident before telling him and his friends to enjoy their grub. Earl is later seen raking leaves on the playground, and Randall informs T.J. and Vince about Earl and that he's filling in for Hank for the time being. T.J. and his gang searched through the school's personnel files and learned that Earl used to be the school's janitor 30 years ago and that he vanished after spending a year in the school. The gang soon learned that Earl made several failed applications to get his old job back following his disappearance, even when he was hired as a janitor for another elementary school that was close to his home. The gang also found a candy wrapper in which Earl wrote three numbers on it.

For the next few days, T.J and his gang kept a close eye on Earl; even at the time when they spotted him tapping on one of the school's walls for some reason. Eventually, Gus soon learns that the wall is where some of the old lockers were when Earl was working, and Gretchen deduces that the numbers are a locker combination. Vince also reveals that the old lockers have been moved to the storage room behind the school's clock, so the gang heads over there. After trying out the combination in all the lockers, they found the decapitated head of Thomas Jefferson's bronze statue. However, Earl catches the kids and ties them up, revealing that he decapitated and stole the head 30 years ago and kept it inside the lockers to avoid being caught, and that he only came back to reclaim it and sell it for a huge profit to become rich.

Just before Earl could away with the head, Spinelli shows up, having contacted two school police officers to the scene. With Earl's crime exposed, Earl ends up being arrested for theft; one of the officers even states that the judge for his upcoming trial happens to be a descendant of Jefferson's, implying that Earl himself will face a severe sentence for his actions, much to Earl's dismay.
