Elliot Marston

Some men are born in the wrong century. I think I was born on the wrong continent. Oh, by the way, you're fired.Marston to Quigley about himself, also his last words.

You see, in many ways, our two nations are quite similar. We both brought civilization to the Stone Age. Unfortunately, in this country, we have failed in one regard. We have been unable to domesticate the most backward people in the world: the Australian Aborigine. Don't mind him, he's harmless. My parents were slaughtered by Aborigines, Mr. Quigley. They attacked so fast my mother was found dead still holding her sewing. Nowadays, they butcher sheep and cattle. Her Majesty's government allows the local settlers to deal with the matter their own way. This official policy is called "pacification by force". But the real issue is that, primitive as they are, the Aborigines have learned to keep out of our rifle range. Which brings us to you, Mr. Quigley.Elliot Marston offering Matthew Quigley a job to assist him in his genocidal campaign against Aboriginal Australians, only to be thrown out of his own house by Quigley.

Elliot Marston is the main antagonist of the 1990 western-adventure film Quigley Down Under.

He is an Australian ranch owner who harbors a racist vendetta against Aboriginal Australians and strives to wipe them all out. He is the archenemy of Matthew Quigley.

He was played by the late Alan Rickman, who also played Severus Snape from the Harry Potter film series, Joe in Help! I'm a Fish, Hans Gruber in the 1988 film Die Hard, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Judge Turpin in Tim Burton's film adaptation of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Biography

Marston hires an American cowboy named Matthew Quigley to wipe out all Aboriginal Australians and informs him that he could assist him in his campaign with his sharp-shooting skills. Quigley, knowing Marston's true intentions, turns down the offer and throws Marston out of his own house twice. However, Marston's goons knock Quigley and Cora unconscious and send them off to be stranded in the outback with no chance of survival. Later, Quigley and Cora save an Aboriginal tribe from Marston's henchmen and Quigley manages to kill several, but one of them escapes upon spotting Cora.

Quigley and Cora kill some more of Marston's men (who drove several natives off a cliff) and save an Aboriginal baby. Some of Marston's men recognize Quigley in a town and attack him. Quigley kills the henchmen, but spares one, whom he sends to Marston to inform that he's coming for him. Marston then prepares his men to kill Quigley after finding out.

Eventually, when Quigley is captured, he engages in a quick draw gun shooting duel with Marston. Marston makes his first move, but is shot and killed by Quigley, who then kills Marston's remaining lackeys.
