Gavilar Kholin is a major antagonist in Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. He was born into the powerful Kholin family. He, along with his brother Dalinar, conquered the neighboring territories to create and Alethi empire. He was also part of a secret group known as The Sons of Honor, who sought to bring back the Knights Radiant by creating a new Desolation.
Biography
Early Life
Gavilar was born as a lower ranking member of the Kholin family. However, he rose to become Highprince by killing his relatives and conquering Kholinar. He was supported by his brother, Davinar. Navani had feelings for both brothers, but eventually married Gavinar.
Gavinar, along with his brother and Torol Sadeas, started to conquer Alethkar. At the beginning of the war, his first child, Jasnah, was born. He would often use brutal methods for conquest, including pillaging entire villages. At some point, he started receiving visions from The Stormfather, and became interested in the Alethi Codes of war. Near the end of his conquest, his son Elhokar was born.
Once the kingdom was conquered, Gavinar started using more political methods to keep the kingdom united. At a certain point, Gavinar went on an expidition in the Shattered Plains and met the Listeners. The Alethi kept slaves known as Parshmen, and were surprised that the listeners were an intelligent version of the same species, and called them "Parshendi". As a member of the Sons of Honor, he was interested in bringing back the Listener's gods, the Fused, in order to start another Desolation and reawaken the Knights Radiant.
He had a feast to celebrate the alliance between Alethkar and the Parshendi. He told Eshonai about his plans, causing her to arrange for his assassination. At the feast, he tried ot get his daughter to marry Meridas Amaram, even though she wasn't interested. He also got into an argument with his wife Navani, and psychologically abused her. Szeth appeared and tried to kill Gavinar. Gavinar wore Shardplate and pretented to be his own bodyguard while Sadeal pretended to be Gavinar. However, Szeth managed to kill Gavinar anyway, Before he died, he told The Stormfather that he wanted his brother to find the most important words a man can say. However, Szeth, who couldn't see the Stormfather, thought Gavilar was talking to him.
