General William Kincaid is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Magneto) of the video game X-Men Legends. He is a powerful and deadly military leader who went rogue in his pursuits of oppressing the mutant race. Like many anti-mutant antagonists in Marvel, he uses the fear of mutants to his own advantage and is fueled primarily by genocidal hatred of mutants, mirroring the attitudes of extreme racists in real-life (albeit exaggerated, as is common in superhero fiction).

He was voiced by John DiMaggio, who also voiced Juggernaut from the same game, Dr. Drakken in Kim Possible, and the Joker from Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Biography

Six months prior to the events of the game, his wife was murdered by an unknown mutant. This event caused the General to suffer a mental breakdown and be hospitalized. He was eventually released, complete with inner undying hatred toward mutantkind. Kincaid's hatred for mutants became a sick obsession and drove him to commit a series of atrocities that went far beyond even the militant actions of Magneto and the Brotherhood, ultimately showing contempt not just for mutants but for the human race as a whole, happy to risk exterminating humanity in a global war in order to turn them against mutants.

Kincaid's many crimes were masked under Operation Vigilance, which was meant to protect humanity from criminal mutants. However, Kincaid quickly used the operation to bring Sentinel technology as well as aid the Weapon X Program in returning, the Weapon X Program alone tortured many innocent mutants while the return of Sentinels drove tensions between humans and mutants to breaking-point after a failed attempt on Magneto's life resulted in Magneto attacking humanity in vengeance using Asteroid M and his "Graviton" weapon.

While these events occurred, Kincaid got in contact with the evil psychic-entity known as Shadow King and helped him to abduct Xavier on the astral plane, as part of his grand-scheme to remove threats to his ultimate goal of war between man and mutant. The General then secretly hired Juggernaut to destroy his own Astral Gate so that the X-Men would not save their professor. Back in the "real" world, Kincaid began to derail further and experimented on human-Sentinel hybrids known as Sentinel Advanced, showing that he was willing to torture and mutilate his own "race" in his quest against mutants.

Ultimately, Kincaid went completely insane and christened himself the new "Master Mold" and took to Asteroid M, in a giant Sentinel-inspired power-suit, where he did battle with the X-Men and revealed his ultimate plan was to crash Asteroid M into New York City and kill millions, who would then blame mutants for the attack and ensure Kincaid got his global war even if he was willing to die in the crash himself.

Thankfully, the madman was defeated, the new X-Men member Magma manage to stop the Asteroid M from falling to Earth, and thanks to videos of the events being passed onto authorities Operation Vigilance was shutdown and Kincaid was put on trial for crimes against humanity. His terrorist activities ultimately serving to strengthen relationships between man and mutant while alienating him and his supporters from the public as the President himself praised the X-Men for preventing Kincaid's massacre and urging for tolerance between all people, human and mutant alike.

Trivia

  • The character is modeled after William Stryker (appearance based on Fox Film series incarnation), and the Sentinels' inventors, Bolivar Trask and Steven Lang.
  • Unused voice clips reveal that he was the one who leaked information to Mystique concerning the whereabouts of Magneto. He planned to use Magneto to hype up his cause for anti-mutant hysteria, and he did not expect Magneto to go so far as to cover the Earth in asteroids.
