The HYDRA Lieutenant is a minor antagonist in the 2011 Marvel film Captain America: The First Avenger. He is an unnamed HYRDA lieutenant officer who served for Johann Schmidt.

He was portrayed by Peter Stark.

Biography

In 1942, the HYDRA Lieutenant was assigned by Schmidt to lead a HYDRA squadron into attacking the village of Tønsberg, Norway, hoping to find the Tesseract. When several of the HYDRA soldiers broke into the village's church, the Lieutenant ordered them to open an old sarcophagus containing the Tesseract, just as Schmidt arrives to the scene and open it himself. However, the Lieutenant is shocked to see that the Tesseract inside the sarcophagus was fake as Schmidt dropped it to crash on the floor.

Eventually, Schmidt finds the real Tesseract hidden inside inside one of the church's walls. Before killing the church keeper in cold blood, Schimdt orders the Lieutenant and his other men to burn down the village, to which the Lieutenant obliged.

It is unknown what happened to the Lieutenant following Schmidt's defeat at the hands of Captain America in 1945, but since Captain America would later end up frozen until 2011, it can be implied that the Lieutenant would have been dead for decades at this point.
