Harleen Frances Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn, is a major character in the DC Extended Universe.

She was originally the Joker's psychiatrist, however, as time went on, she fell in love with him and helped him escape from Arkham Asylum. Since then, Harley teamed up with him and become his partner in crime before being kicked out by him, leading her to make her own way and renounce him, joining Amanda Waller's Task Force X or forming the Birds of Prey to stop Black Mask.

She was portrayed by Margot Robbie in her first villainous role.

Appearance

In Suicide Squad, Harley wore a white t-shirt, a jacket with blue left side and red right side and leggings She had her hairs in pigtails which terminated in mashes of the same color as the jacket. She has many tattoos on her body and an heart symbol on her face. As make-up, she has smudged eyeshadow and red lipstick. She held a baseball bat.

Her attire in Birds of Prey consist in a pink top and ripped jeans. Over the top she has a mantle of confetti. She removed the smudged eyeshadow and has a colored nail polish. Now her weapon of choice seems to be a mallet.

In The Suicide Squad, he clothings are completely changed. She now wears a shirt and pants with jester motifs, of black and red colors Her make-up consist in red eyeshadow and black lipstick and nail polish. Her hairs are now in braids, with the tips being painted black. She now wield a firearm.

Personality

Harley has shown to have a crazy personality, constantly laughing and creeping out even her allies with her weird ways to act.

Despite this, Harley can be actually intelligent at times, since she was a psychologist before turning to crime and mantained her experience.

  • This is Harley Quinn's first cinematic appearance.
    • This is also her third live-action appearance. Her first was in the short-lived television series Birds of Prey, and second is a very brief cameo in Arrow.
  • At the start of the film of Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. Harley Quinn was in a cartoon animated sequence that had a type of origin story.
    • There was a part when Harley Quinn had became a psychiatrist and shares some similar looks with the outfit design with the color palette being more dark red for the tuxedo and yellow-orange for the shirt with her outfit almost sharing resemblance towards the Arthur Fleck's outfit as the Joker for the 2019 film with the same name.
      • This could be a coincidence or a wink at the 2019 Movie and the Birds of Prey Movie being both character study of two villainous protagonists in adaptational films.
  • Harley Quinn was created for Batman: The Animated Series, and later incorporated into the DC comic book universe.
  • In an interview with Empire magazine, producer Richard Suckle described the character as "a fan fave. Funny, crazy, scary... You can't come up with enough adjectives to describe all the different things you see her do".
  • Margot Robbie was originally set to reprise her role as Harley in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which is the version of Harley from Suicide Squad, but Margot Rubin would eventually voice that version of Harley instead.
  • Despite Suicide Squad being negativity received by critics and fans, Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn has been positively received and is considered the film’s only saving grace by many. This was partly the reason as to why she returned in the soft reboot The Suicide Squad.
