No, you get to live. Same way I do, tortured by the knowledge that your decisions got that one person you love most killed. [...] Should have let me take the shot, Alvez.Grant's threat to Agent Luke Alvez.

Biography
Little is known about Grant, except he worked as a DEA sniper and he had a wife named Robin and two daughters named Casey and Jody, as well as had a chewing tobacco habit. While Agent Alvez was still on the fugitive task force, along with his colleague Phil Brooks, who was later in physical therapy for an attempt on his life by The Crimson King, the two worked with Grant and Mexican police inspector Manny Silva to apprehend Eduardo Ramos, a ruthless sicario cartel hitman. Grant was positioned as a sniper and lookout on a rooftop. Grant quickly sniped two shooters Ramos hired for an escape, and Grant was ready to kill Ramos to be rid of him, which Silva also agreed to. Alvez and Brooks overruled them both and stopped Ramos' escape with an arrest, aggravating Grant. He became distant from his colleagues and the agencies who employed him, but still lived with his family in Mexico where Ramos operated and was incarcerated.
Ramos broke out of prison after three years, using a list of people who arrested him he somehow gathered to get revenge, intending to start with Grant. Ramos killed Grant's wife and daughters by force-feeding them bleach and shooting them execution-style in the backs of their heads, Grant all the while on assignment overseas. When he returned and personally found Robin, Casey, and Jody all murdered, he was placed on mandatory bereavement leave, but the damages were done. Grant's trauma turned to rage, as he never forgave his colleagues for preventing him from killing Ramos, so he decided on his own rampage, avenging his family by killing both the cartel and his former colleagues by the same fashion Ramos killed his family. Grant started successfully by killing Ramos first in Sinaloa, then spreed across the United States to track down the numerous men involved in the cartel and arrest operations. He adapted his M.O. to cleaning the scenes of any trace of him and making at least one of the victims kneel and pray before they were shot dead, the on confirmed prayer being the Hail Mary.
Even Alvez assumed Ramos was behind the murders, so he called Silva, who shocked him by informing him of Ramos' murder. When Alvez finds spit tobacco at the scene of the latest murder, he realizes Grant is the killer, which elaborates on why his killings are proficient, but his violence shows rage and a personal motive. Alvez tries to call Silva, but Grant's on the other line, having cloned Sliva's number. When Alvez tells Grant to stop, Grant bitterly remarks he saved Alvez's like by killing Ramos, emphasizing he deserved the shot that would've killed Ramos so his family was spared. When Alvez asks if he'll die next, Grant says he instead plans for him to live with the loss of a loved one because things went differently, just like for Grant. Alvez rushes to his girlfriend, Dr. Lisa Douglas, a mutual friend of him and Brooks, to see she's safe. By the time Alvez realizes Brooks is the true _target, Grant has already force-fed him bleach and gagged him. When he spits it out and Grant asks if he has any last words, Brooks screams between chokes "go to hell". Grant than shoots him, leaving Alvez to find Brooks dead himself.
Alvez breaks into the apartment of a forger Grant used for a fake ID and holds him at gunpoint for information, and the forger says Grant's headed for Baltimore's ports, about to sneak out of the country in a cargo container. Alvez spots Grant at the port and shoots him, but Grant has a vest, so he runs barely scathed. Alvez catches Grant and gets into a fistfight with him, until the BAU arrives to arrest Grant. Alvez tries to withhold any rage he'd throw at Grant by shooting him, but it's the agents who step in and take Grant away, before he's incarcerated for life. As Alvez went rogue, his rank is demoted, and Alvez is left permanently traumatized. Although Lisa reassures him she'll be with him, the pain of losing Brooks led to their eventual breakup.
