Lucien (Super Mario)

Lucien, as you most certainly already know, is the name of an almighty racket. It is a dangerous being with the power to control people! King Bask, who once ruled this kingdom, was awed by the racket's power and took it as his own. In the end...it destroyed the entire kingdom. But with the last of his power, our king somehow managed to seal Lucien away. King Bask stripped the racket of its power. Then he divided said power between five Power Stones, which he hid in different areas of this island. To ensure that no one could ever restore Lucien's power to control people against their will, he hid the racket away in a secret room in this very temple. Since then, many ages have passed. Time took its toll, and that room fell into ruin, breaking the seal. That's when the racket fell into new hands. Lucien had no trouble at all controlling two men so wholly motivated by greed. I am certain that fell racket will try to gather the five Power Stones and reclaim its original power. Our only hope is for you to gather the five Power Stones before Lucien does! It can surely sense where its power resides. At some point in your journey, I am afraid you will have to face those who wield Lucien's might.Aster telling the tale of the Lucien

Lucien, also referred to as Bowcien after merging with Bowser, is the main antagonist of the 2018 sports video game Mario Tennis Aces. It is an ancient, sentient tennis racket that has the power of mind control over people and seeks to rule the Mushroom Kingdom.

Description

Appearance

Lucien

As Lucien, it is a menacing-looking tennis acket that was given a golden frame that has spikes. It has five magic Power Stones just below his "sweet spot". Its handle is a dark purple shade with grayish-white stripes. Its color scheme is a warning not to mess with him.

Bowcien

Lucien and Bowser combined to further enhance his power, causing the two to merge into Bowcien. This form retains much of Bowser's normal appearance, but also has Lucien's features. This includes dark gray patterns all over their body and extremely bright red eyes. Overall, Bowcien looks like a golem version of Bowser.

Biography

According to the tale which Aster, the guardian of the Kingdom of Bask, tells when he and Mario meet up at the Temple of Bask, Lucien was sealed away by the kingdom's king, King Bask. King Bask hoped his powerful magic would make sure that Lucien would not destroy the Kingdom of Bask, but the king was proven wrong when Lucien broke free from his prison and proceeded to kill him and destroy the kingdom anyway.

Wario and Waluigi eventually find Lucien and recover him, but just as soon as they do, the racket awakens from his deep slumber. He quickly takes over their minds, turning them into his thralls. The corrupted Wario brothers then proceed to show off their new find. Toad notices some weird patchwork on them upon their arrival. Wario and Waluigi were about to give Lucien to Mario, but they accidentally give it to Luigi instead. Suddenly, the Lucien shows off his power again, possessing Luigi. The three form a team and go on the run to find the Power Stones, but Mario gets three of them first.

Wario and Waluigi get the last two Power Stones, and Lucien initiates the Lucien Cup, which Mario wins. However, Bowser arrives and gets his hands on Lucien, becoming Bowcien. Mario fights and defeats Bowcien, destroying Lucien with a Zone Shot in the process. Afterwards, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Daisy celebrated Lucien's destruction, although Wario and Waluigi express disappointment in it happening, as they hoped to become the best tennis players with the racket. Daisy condemns Wario and Waluigi by reminding them of not only how all the events, including their possession, had been the result of their trying to use Lucien, but that Lucien's powers were ultimately no match to Mario anyway.

Trivia

  • It, along with the Power Stones, are based off of the Infinity Gauntlet Thanos uses in the Marvel Comics and several other adaptations, with one of the Power Stones Lucien possesses literally being named “the Power Stone”, all of them being colored similarly to the Infinity Stones, and that they are fitting on Lucien as much as the Infinity Stones are fitting on the Infinity Gauntlet.
