This town can't go through another Christmas killer thing. Not again.Mayor McBean in the trailer and movie, foreshadowing her true nature.
Majorie McBean, also lnown as Mayor Margie McBean, is the overarching antagonist of the 2022 Christmas slasher-comedy film The Mean One, which is based on Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas but with a different twisted plot.
She is the corrupt mayor of Newville who is campaigning for her re-election and seems to care more about that instead of the killing spree but later on seems to know more about it then she lets on. She is also named after Sylvester McMonkey McBean from the Dr. Seuss' Sneetches story.
She is played by Amy Schumacher in her first villainous role.
Early Life
Before the events of the film, she was the deputy partner of Sheriff Hooper before Burke Goldman got that job but after Cindy's mother got killed by the film's titular antagonist the Mean One, she became the new mayor of Newville.
However, she learned of the existence of the Mean One but instead of investigating him, she chose to cover it up and lure unsuspecting tourists there as sacrifices to fend off the creature.
Not only that but they also forbid Newville from ever celebrating Christmas again in fear that the town will get attacked again if they do so, which also showed how bad and feared the Mean One came to be.
The Mean One
20 years later, she first appears passing around badges for her re-election campaign but does it so pushingly by putting them on people's shirts without their permission and when meeting the now adult Cindy You-Know-Who, the said girl didn't seem to be interested in the campaign and more about her nightmares to the point that the mayor finally left after finally getting the message that Cindy wasn't interested.
The next day, she got informed about Cindy's father being found dead and came to visit her in the hospital but instead of genuinely showing sympathy, she shows a dismissive sounding apology for Cindy's loss and seems to care more about her campaign instead of what happened while being disturbed by Cindy's claims of the creature and worrying that it will cause panic.
As Cindy is putting up flyers about the Mean One after encountering the creature and finding out that he was indeed real all along, McBean complains to Sheriff Hooper about it and keeps tearing them down, already acting suspicious before the big reveal.
In Sheriff Hooper's office, McBean visits him to talk about Cindy and reminds him that the town can't go through another Christmas killer thing again before putting her campaign badge on his shirt, much to his obvious annoyance.
After the Mean One continues to kill more people and Cindy meets Doc Zeus, Mayor McBean fears for her own life and decides to flee the town to save her own skin but got confronted by Sheriff Hooper about it, which he didn't care about her obvious lie about going to see her sister. McBean refuses to stop gaslighting the surviving victims and is leaving town to save her own skin while having an argument with Sheriff Hooper, indirectly revealing their true natures about what they're doing.
However, Cindy and Burke start to find out everything she's done and the latter puts out word to highway patrol to probably arrest her for her crimes.
On her way out of the town, her car suddenly malfunctions, suddenly stopping and loudly playing Christmas music. As she goes to fix her car and stop the music, the Mean One appears and bites her cheek off.
Despite attempting to run away from him, he knocks her to the ground and drags her to her own car trunk before using the trunk to slam her neck repeatedly until her head falls off, killing her and indirectly avenging those that she sacrificed.
After her death, Burke confronts Hooper, who finally confesses what him and the mayor have been up to and tried to justify it but Burke and Doc were angered at him and the mayor by pointing out how bad that idea was.
Despite this, her and the now redeemed sheriff's later deaths were still indirectly avenged when Cindy defeated the Mean One and indirectly killed him by forgiving him, which caused his heart to expand and explode.
Her death was also in vain as everyone later found out about the Mean One and grew interested in him like an urban legend but Newville can at least celebrate Christmas again without fear only for it to be until next year as the Mean One's roar indicates he might be still alive or he has others like him out there that might avenge him soon.
Personality
At first, Mayor McBean just seems like an annoying and pushy mayor who is focused on her re-election and not caring at all about Cindy's problems.
However, she is later revealed to be a selfish, cowardly, manipulative, and irredeemable corrupt mayor who is willing to sacrifice innocent tourists to the Mean One to fend him off and also tried to flee town to save her own skin, unlike how Hooper at least shows remorse later on and sacrifices himself to save Burke from the Mean One.
Trivia
- Ironically, her namesake Sylvester McMonkey McBean was a tricky con-artist who just merely conned the Sneetches into either getting stars or having them removed without any karma for his crimes but Mayor McBean is a lot worse by still sacrificing tourists to the Mean One and choosing to flee town to save her own instead of redeeming herself.
- Even if she survived, Burke would still have her be arrested for her and Hooper's crimes, meaning that she also wouldn't win her re-election anymore.
