Murmur is an antagonist in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. Murmur was born when the very universe was created, and is the embodiment of sound. Little is known about him other than that, but his arrival into the universe destroyed all reality around him.

History

Murmur is believed to have come into existence at the dawn of time, and is the primordial physical manifestation of sound. Throughout time he would bring obliteration to countless worlds, his only reason for existence to bring ruination to the universe. Eventually, the Shadow Council attempted to summon him into the ruins of Auchindoun for their own purposes. Unfortunately for them, Murmur was far too powerful for them to control and broke free from their control.

Adventurers learned of the Council's plans, and stormed the Shadow Labyrinth. They slaughtered the remaining members of the Shadow Council members who were hiding within the halls of the Labyrinth. When they reached the final room, they found several soldiers of the council in battle with Murmur, but every last one of them were killed when the adventurers joined the fray. Murmur was engaged in battle, who proceeded to use his sound-based abilities to attempt to kill them. In the end, Murmur was defeated, but because of his status as a primordial elemental rather than a biological being it is highly unlikely he met his end there.

In the Codex of Blood, it is said a single whisper from Murmur can destroy an entire world.

Trivia

  • Murmur is theorized to be the physical manifestation of the Big Bang.
  • Murmur is classified as an Elemental Lord, but given he came into existence at the dawn of time and represents an abstract, cosmic concept, and has the potential to destroy the cosmos, his power is infinitely higher than the primordial planetary Elemental Lords such as Ragnaros and Al'Akir.
  • It is believed the only reason Murmur was defeated is due to his true arrival onto Azeroth was not completed, as if it was, Azeroth would've likely been completely destroyed.
