Octoombas are a species of Goombas that appear as supporting antagonists in the Super Mario Galaxy video game series and later titles in the Super Mario franchise as minions of the Koopa Troop.
History
Super Mario Galaxy
Octoombas appear first in the Good Egg Galaxy. They attack the player with the growth on the top of its head or by firing rocks at it from the opening on its face. They appear throughout the game alongside the Rocto, Octoguy and Slurple variants of Octoomba.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Octoombas reappear alongside their cousins the Elite Octoombas. Their attacks remain the same as well as their health and damage stats.
Super Mario 3D World
The Octoombas return in the bonus stages across the game. They now spit three cannonballs at the player and are much stronger, defeasible only now via ground-pound.
Dr. Mario World
Octoombas appear as assistants. They fill the doctor's gauge by half or reduce remaining time.
Personality
Octoombas have the same personality as Goombas as being grunts. They may have some more intelligence as they do not walk off of cliffs the same way regular Goombas do.
Members
Octoombas
Normal Octoombas, AKA Electrogoombas, are the most common variant of Octoomba. They appear across the galaxies and attack with a headbutt. They are by this measure the weakest of their relatives as they do not have long-range attacks (this may also apply to Slurples). They are defeasible via one jump, a spin and kick or any other powerup.
They are light-blue with yellow spots, and have a yellow growth used in headbutt attacks. They are more agile than Goombas and jump from side-to-side and will approach a player.
Elite Octoombas
Elite Octoombas appear throughout the second instalment in the Super Mario Galaxy duologoy. They are green with white spots, and have two antennae on their heads rather than just the one Octoombas have. They shoot two rocks out of their faces, rather than one which are shot by Octoguys.
Octoguys
Octoguys are pink Octoombas with no spots. Their antennae consists of one enlarged lobe at the front and a second smaller one at the back. They have yellow eyes and four legs. They are less agile than regular Octoombas, and make a higher-pitched squeaking sound when moving. They are capable of projecting a singular rock from its face.
Roctos
Roctos are much larger species of Octoomba. They are brown and have light-ink spots. They have tentacles and twisted bodies. They are capable of shooting fireballs and coconuts at Mario. They are defeated by Mario batting coconuts back at them, which kills them in a single hit. They were influenced by Octorok's from the Legend of Zelda franchise.
Slurples
Slurples are a much smaller species of Octoomba. They are pack animals that seem to live or are created from pools of lava. They will swarm Mario and stick to his body, which will slow him down and eventually suffocate him if they are not spun off. They are light blue.
Octoboos
Octoboos are a hybrid of Goombas and Boos. They are white, but retain their antennae, whilst resembling fish. They are only depicted similar to Elite and regular Octoombas.
