Oculus Max's quote from his character bioLet the show begin!
Oculus Max, also known as Max in earlier series, is a major antagonist of the Spanish toy franchise SuperThings: Rivals of Kaboom.
He is one of the right-hands of Mr. King and Professor. K as well as an authority figure in Clank Corporation with the ability to change identity as a form of deceit. However, he also seeked to usurp Mr. King as the leader of the villains and also seeks to gain more power through acquiring the map fragments to the Cyberdome. He is also one of Enigma's rivals.
His voice actor for both the Spanish and English dub is unknown.
Appearance
Oculus Max resembles a security camera, which had only been revealed as such in the end of Series 5, whereas Oculus Max only showed his eyes and gloves before, with goggles being added later on. The top of the camera (his head) has a green eye symbol and a presumed antenna which is either blue or white, depending on his appearance. However, his form is changeable to fit either a hero or villain (his standard form), which apart from the obvious change of eye colors, also alters the color of his whole body, where his usual, villainous appearance is orange, while on the other hand it's yellow when disguising as a hero, with the lens of the camera changing from red to blue also.
Asides from his changeable appearance, there are still many features that remain unaltered for Oculus Max. The most notable one that doesn't change is his purple, spiked cape, though shown to be different colors such as blue in several artworks (mainly in his heroic form). His gloves in the Secret Spies Series and onwards also seem to be unchanged, always remaining orange with blue fingers and a grappling hook despite having resemblance to his villainous form, though the grappling hook is additional equipment which can justify the appearance more. His primary body also consists of a green, outlined pattern which also surrounds a spike-like bump in the middle of his body.
Personality
On the surface, he acts like a loyal assistant to Mr. King, who aids him in his crimes and ensures everything goes out well with his ultimate plans. However, he is just as arrogant and power-hungry, if not more, seeking to overthrow his boss and gain total control of all the villains. He also shows apathy towards the people hurt or exposed in his plans, and even does it on purpose out of sadism or to seek benefit. Moreover, he is more private about his true personality as he acts manipulative and deceptive towards others, including both the heroes and villains, such as convincing X-Paghetti about being a hero and using a console to get Kid Fury's attention. While he does seem to have his status as an assistant kept in the Power Machines Series after being attacked under Mr. King's orders, it's most likely still part of his pragmatic character and to save his skin as he would've still planned his goals if not for the reveal. As a boss himself, he still retains a harsh personality, with a prime example being when he exiled Iron Jaws and Boiling Head to the North Pole whilst in a cage for losing the Kazoom Machine, despite Boiling Head's justification of it being unintentional. Outside his villainous nature, he does seem to have a good relationship with his mother, albeit only revealed by a single photo frame.
Abilities
Oculus Max's main ability is his ability to change form, which consists of being able to shift into his villainous and heroic form back and forth, though the former appearance is his default form. This ability is what allowed Oculus Max to easily deceive the heroes (with the exception of Enigma) and villains in order to progress further to his self-serving goals prior to his defeat, though he was once given suspicion by Mr. King when he accidentally walked into the headquarters in his "hero" form. Asides from willingly changing form, his body resembling a security also enables Oculus Max to project recordings he can obtain at a large scale, which is exactly what he did in the villains' new headquarters where he revealed Enigma's secret alliance with Hardlock to Mr. King and Professor. K. Furthermore, Max is accompanied by a grappling hook that he uses on his left arm into order to get to several areas from a distance and that makes them typically hard to reach. It is also used by him as an effective method of transport, such as when he uses it to swing towards building in order to get to the Cyberdome quicker. Asides from physical abilities, Oculus Max also has an office of his own where he can observe many areas from Kaboom City with the support of his many monitors, whilst avoiding any suspicion and being able to exploit the activities for his own gain.
Biography
Origin
Very little is known about Oculus Max's origins, with the only trace of his past being a photo of his young self with his mother that he keeps in his room. At some point, he would be hired by Mr. King and Professor. K to act as their right-hand, assisting them in organising events that Clank Corporation would host and helping them create inventions, including the heroes and villains. His effort was honored by Mr. King and Professor. K to the point he was awarded as "Employee of the Month" several times, with portraits of such awards being seen in Series 3. He is also implied to have had a past friendship with Badnana.
Max himself does not make an appearance in the first two series of the webseries, with the closest thing being a mention of him by Mr. King in Series 2, where he commands Max to bring information of the Superbots through sending blueprints of the vehicles.
Series 3
Series 3 is the first series to have Oculus Max make a physical appearance (albeit mostly hidden) and speak. However, in the first few episodes, Max is still merely mentioned. In the first episode, Professor. K calls Max to bring out blueprints on the Twister Crack, Spider Cannon and Superslider devices, before being hit by the Superbots twice by accident. Max is also ordered to look after the remote control used on the devices as a preparation for the villains' invasion of Kaboom City.
Max's first physical appearance is in the fourth episode of the series, where Mr. King calls him to ask if he has sent the invitations to the Superbot tournament to both the heroes and villains, to which Max confirms, though questioning if the tournament would be risky to host such tournament, as there could be doubts on the heroes winning, which was planned to give them overconfidence. Max later on observes the villains' response to the invitation, getting worried as they reject the task of letting the heroes win for their own benefits. When the tournament starts, Max watches it whilst being nervous, before Badnana meets with him due to both being friends in the past. Max clarifies to the latter that the heroes are meant to win, which Badnana initially shrugs off, before asking if he's being serious, to which Max responds positively. The two then initiate a plan to sabotage the villains' victory using Badnana's peels and a fan, much to Citrus Crush's suspicion. The peels accidentally aim at Iron Punch, causing the machine to slip, which Max, Badnana and Citrus Crush are all panicking at, before the heroes regardless get the victory once the fallen Iron Punch crushes the Twister Crack device. Mr. King is informed of this and congratulates Max, with the latter describing the process as "torturous" and is skeptical of someone gaining suspicion on the tournament. Mr. King however dismisses this as the goal of getting the heroes overconfident has still worked.
Throughout the series, Max has still been consistently aiding Mr. King and Professor. K in the initiation of attacking Kaboom City. In the room where the Power Tower is operated, Max is ordered to prepare Mr. King's vehicle as the villains are prepared to go all out and ambush the heroes to make their attack more competent. Max also oversees several operations in the invasion, such as presumably the distribution of Kazoom crystals as seen in the rooftop of the Clank Corporation building and the preparation of Mr. King's vehicle, which he informs the latter of, before informing Professor. K that the probes and receivers of the Power Tower will be activated. Along with Mr. King and Professor. K, the villains' success allowed them to gain victory over Kaboom City and take it over, while it is in a razed state.
