The Queen Gibdo is a major antagonist of 2023 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As her name would suggest, she is the queen of the Gibdos that plague Gerudo Desert and is responsible for the violent sandstorms that have brought its inhabitants in ruin. She acts as the Guardian of the Lightning Temple.
Biography
When the Upheaval began as the result of Ganondorf breaking free from imprisonment, the Queen Gibdo was sent to the Gerudo Desert where she invades the Lightning Temple and causes sandstorms so horrific that Riju documented these events as the worst cases of these storms in recorded history. She then launched invasions of Gibdos against Gerudo Town, which forced the civilians into hiding below Riju's palace for safety, rendering the settlement a ghost town. These storms also caused Link problems as they would cause the Purah Pad to go static, which would make navigating the desert and teleporting much harder, forcing him to rely on updrafts just to get it working again for a moment. Riju would head out to practice her lightning attacks so she can protect her people.
Link is able to help Riju get better with her lightning abilities, which would be the key to the Gerudo's success in the battles against the Gibdos, from the battle at Kara Kara Bazaar where it was found that elemental attacks are their biggest weakness, to the battle for Gerudo Town. After Link solves the ancient riddle, he was able to bring the Lightning Temple to the surface. Riju joins him as they make their way there. The Queen Gibdo appears and gets into a fight with the duo, but she is bested and is forced to retreat into the temple.
After Link and Riju recharge all of the batteries in the temple, they are transported to the big room where the Queen Gibdo was waiting for them when they force her out of her hive as they get into a rematch. Despite summoning her Gibdos during the second round, the Queen Gibdo was defeated and destroyed through their efforts and Riju was able to awaken as the Sage of Lightning. The queen's demise caused the sandstorms to die down to normal levels and most of the Gibdos to disappear, allowing the Gerudo to emerge from hiding and resume their normal lives.
She is later summoned by Ganondorf along with Colgera, Marbled Gohma, Mucktorok and the Seized Construct in Gloom's Lair. By Ganondorf's ultimate defeat, the Queen Gibdo and the rest of the monsters were also killed for good.
